To be sick to death of noisy cars

Dappy777 · 03/12/2025 22:15

WHY don't the police do anything about this? I'm f-ing sick of it😡. Every year the problem gets worse. I'm sitting here unable to concentrate because some idiot is racing around in a souped up car.

I don't know what they do, but their cars screech when they accelerate and then make a banging/exploding sound when they slow down – like someone has let off fireworks. They wake me up at night, and they disturb me when I'm trying to read or watch TV. It's really affecting my life. No one expects the police to catch every single one, but if they'd just fine a few, word would get around. These horrible, ignorant, vile, selfish little bas*ards are basically bullies. They know they upset people, and like all bullies their behaviour will just escalate until someone stops them.

Both petitions signed thanks.

My friends car has been remapped twice and makes no more noise than a regular one the same.

There’s always some fanny that wants to just be as loud as fuck for no apparent reason. I mean whats the actual point?! Utter waste of money.

roseymoira · 04/12/2025 23:22

What kind of people have raised these morons?

Toooldtocare25 · 05/12/2025 06:38

I just don’t get it. It sounds awful and every time I see/hear one I just think TWAT.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 05/12/2025 06:39

Ours is almost silent which can present another issue.

I’ve never understood why neighbours don’t get together and sort this . I cannot imagine being woken up every morning and just tolerate it.

This can’t be left up to the neighbours though otherwise it would have already been sorted. Because firstly you’d have to be very local to know who drives what and secondly if they’re that obnoxious and deliberately anti social to upset people they will likely be scary neighbours in other ways too. I bet their neighbours often loathe them but feel that they can’t say anything. 😔

That’s a horrible comment. Could you explain what any of this has to do with disabled people?

Somersetbaker · 04/12/2025 12:59

Because they've got very small cocks and think people will be impressed by a Corsa making fart noises.

Yes, probably 🤣

More senior morons?

HostaCentral · 05/12/2025 10:42

I agree.... To a point. We are in an area which attracts very expensive supercars and classics due to our interesting roads. They are often loud, but the right kind of loud. I know that sounds ridiculous, but if they are expensive rather than modified hatchbacks, it's an entirely different sound. In modern high-performance cars you can also turn off the "loud" button in built up areas.

LilacReader · 05/12/2025 14:53

HelenaWaiting · 04/12/2025 02:31

Your neighbours probably just aren't telling you what they really think of you.

So true - you have to live with your neighbours for a very long time and it's difficult to say anything when you have a problem as you don't want to start a war. Neighbours 'probably' hate the noise but if someone is the kind of neighbour that doesn't give a fcuk about noise for others, then they are not going to be the type of people that you want to approach!!

JohnofWessex · 05/12/2025 15:55

How about this instead of a camera?

On every housing estate on this island, from Inverness down to Brighton, there are loud, ignorant, violent people who make their neighbour's lives a misery. It makes me SO f-ing angry. Why don't we take anti-social behaviour more seriously?? There seems to be this idiotic, smug, left-wing view that such people are somehow "fightin da system," that they're loveable rebels with a bit of spirit, and that it's only the stuffy old Tory bigots who complain about them.

I have known two different people (totally unrelated btw) who were driven to suicide attempts by noisy neighbours. A German friend tells me that in Germany they crack down quickly and harshly on that sort of thing – that it would never be allowed to escalate.

Are you a bit intellectually challenged? What sort of simpleton finds a banging exhaust pipe funny? At our last house, somebody's dickhead son went through a phase of driving up and down the road with his explosive exhaust pipe til nearly 12 on a week night and all through the night at weekends! Exploding his way around the area and this went on for a few months until very early one Saturday morning I heard him fucking around up the road so I went outside to.waot fur him to pass so I could get his reg no, but he was sat opposite some that's opposite just revving and banging his exhaust pipe, I heard some serious shouting so I guess someone came out the flats and showed him the error of his ways and we never heard that particular car again. You wouldn't be laughing if you had to get up for work absolutely knackered on frequent occasion, you wouldn't be laughing if you had to be on the phone to the police at silly o clock at night when you should be asleep, you wouldn't be laughing of you had to move house because you are sick to death of noise at night and noise when you are trying to chill in your garden in the summer. The bangs are like the brainless fireworks that people use! Massive explosions that frighten people and pets! It's funny for you as the retard doing it, it's not funny for the people and animals you make suffer.

I don’t disagree with you but just so you know I have voted Labour all my life and I also really care about antisocial behaviour.. not sure it’s as simple as left/right political split.
Weve had 13 years of Tory rule until recently- I don’t think that’s worked out very well for cracking down on antisocial behaviour at all. It was Labour introduced ASBOs back in the day etc, so in my experience they tend to be more about tackling stuff whereas the Tory mindset sees this kind of thing as beneath them and too local to bother with so they don’t put it on the national agenda.

JohnofWessex · 05/12/2025 20:22

The issue isn't so much the legislation but having people not just police but HMRC. DVSA local authorities etc to do it

The penalty for being a twat isn't so much a trip to the vets but getting your car seized having to go to interviews court etc

Hamstery · 06/12/2025 07:50

Honestly legal change and the attention that would brings means signing those parliamentary petition above is the best way for people who care about this kind of noise harassment to actually act. It’s also the best time to do it, with a massive Labour majority of MPs.
The best is signing AND writing in your own words to your local MP, because the only solution is to get something much stricter on this issue into law.

Only doing that will give the powers to compel government agencies like HMRC, DVLA to do more about it and will scare off the people and garages and suppliers who do this. They do not care about the current £50 fine mentioned upthread, clearly. It’s insultingly weak.

As a sleep deprived mum with autistic DC terrified by this noise out in the street and audible while we’re at home. it’s a big quality of life issue. All of us in the UK will be living more and more closer together all the time because of cost of housing, it’s just not OK to be an aggressive, antisocial dick to other people like this.

How would the HMRC get involved?

It’s those who make their exhausts louder including having that popping noise that are annoying. It’s actually illegal to make an exhaust louder than it was manufactured.

I wish someone would tell the late middle aged man who drives through our beautiful peaceful village at 5.30am each morning in his souped up Mazda convertible, banging as he slows down, banging as he accelerates around the corner of our house and my bedroom. Total knob.

How would the HMRC get involved?

because a lot of offending behaviour produces income that should be taxed.............

Croakymccroakyvoice · 06/12/2025 23:49

It has been a massive problem around here. They would meet every Friday and Saturday night in a local carpark (which was next to retirement flats/sheltered housing) and play loud music, rev their engines, pop and bang, and screech their tyres until 2 or 3 in the morning. It was upsetting a lot of people, especially those very nearby but the sound travels so it affected people further away too. I think they believe they are characters from Fast and Furious or something.

Anyway, after years of complaints, reports to the police (which were initially ignored), a few serious injuries where cars drifted into crowds of people watching, and getting local councillors involved it does seem to have stopped.

All the time, when people complained on local FB groups, the people involved would come on and defend what they were doing. They would claim they should be provided with somewhere they could use. No concept that somebody would have to pay for that and that if it were provided it would have to be insured, risk assessed, stewarded properly etc. Which would all cost (presumably the tax payer) a lot of money. We'd all love to have expensive hobbies paid for wouldn't we!
