To be sick to death of noisy cars

WHY don't the police do anything about this? I'm f-ing sick of it😡. Every year the problem gets worse. I'm sitting here unable to concentrate because some idiot is racing around in a souped up car.

I don't know what they do, but their cars screech when they accelerate and then make a banging/exploding sound when they slow down – like someone has let off fireworks. They wake me up at night, and they disturb me when I'm trying to read or watch TV. It's really affecting my life. No one expects the police to catch every single one, but if they'd just fine a few, word would get around. These horrible, ignorant, vile, selfish little bas*ards are basically bullies. They know they upset people, and like all bullies their behaviour will just escalate until someone stops them.

Gosh im lucky to have good neighbours lol my car gets attention wherever I go 🤣 43 , female , 5 kids , stage 2 map and just had a new exhaust and screamer pipe fitted 🤣🤣

Both our cars have been remapped, along with other modifications. They make no more noise than a standard car.

Utterknowitall · 04/12/2025 17:58

Do you live in Slough?

As a female petrol head in my 40's, my weekend car is louder than average - it's set up for track days which is what i mostly do with it. Anyone that purposely maps in "pops and bangs" are missing a braincell or two!!

However, saying that, i LOVE hearing the sound of loud cars (minus the crap pops and bangs) and will always stop what I'm doing to listen 😀

Yep a nice exhaust attached to a decent engine is lovely. I have a couple of cars that are a bit louder than average but not mapped or “souped up” in any way, just stock.

i tend to find a decent flat 6, or v8, sounds far better than any artificial pops and bangs

i am always careful in the morning or at night though. No need to be antisocial…

Chinsupmeloves · 04/12/2025 18:25

Absolutely agree, I hate them too. They know they're souped up way above the legal limit but like all arseholes like this think they're above the law. Don't they realise people just think they're tossers? 🤔 Sefish, ignorant and immature.

What a shit parenting example! Your teaching your kids to be racers as soon as they are old enough. I worked on a steelworks and one in ten young apprentices who have their initial health screening were found to already have excessive hearing loss because they drive around in cars that scream and bang! And you've exposed all your kids to your retarded chav car mods! What kind of a mother exposes her kids to that level of noise!

In the town where I live, the main roads are full of houses for sale because of selfish morons like you! At what age are you going to grow up and stop humiliating your kids? You've already damaged their hearing by this point.

Came here to say this. There’s nothing worse than being creeped up on by an electric car. At least cars with loud exhausts give you a warning.

They also give you hearing damage when the filthy infant inside bangs it driving past you!

I can't agree with you enough OP! We need acoustic cameras everywhere to stamp it out. One of the reasons I moved house last year was because we lived next to a main road and it became intolerable. All the main roads in the town I live in now always seem to have numerous houses up for sale on them because these childish twats have made it difficult to live near main roads! It needs stamping out before people living on main roads end up when the houses they can't even sell. Not to mention the fact that when these morons drive past pedestrians and their exhaust pipes explode, it's detrimental to people's hearing which should be a crime!

DownyEmerald · 04/12/2025 18:54

Next door's son has a souped up something that is really noisy - and regularly wakes us when he leaves at 5.45 am to go the gym.

I'm interested in why people like it - how would they feel if they had a button they could press so it just made that noise inside the car? If it's the noise they enjoy that should work. But if there is an element of attention seeking then obviously it wouldn't.

Motorbikes - I've heard the excuse that a loud bike is a safe bike but it seems unfair that they can impose their noise on so many people as they pootle about - it's really unpleasant, and affects people's health.

anon666 · 04/12/2025 18:55

Ugh. Sainsbury's car park yesterday. Some complete bell-end came vrooming in too fast, too loud.

Everyone jumped amd looked round as to be honest he might have run someone over at that speed.

He then parked in a disabled space, him and a woman got out. Both looked completely off their faces as they wobbled and staggered out of the car. I thought about the fact that in "the old days" police would maybe have picked these people up. But I didn't even bother to call.

KookyPinkHare · 04/12/2025 19:03

High end cars also make noise. There are well off, middle class morons as well!

Tryingatleast · 04/12/2025 19:32

Hate the sound of them but hate electric cars too, they’ve gone too far the other way, you can’t hear them now, so dangerous when walking a dog on the road/ turning a corner

hattie43 · 04/12/2025 19:44

We are also plagued with this . I think any noise modifications should be made illegal .

Edited

You’d have to go really high end to get a noisy high class car , Aston , Ferrari etc . Nobody has been plagued by noise from these cars because they aren’t ragged around the roads at 2am whereas Harley Joe’s 57 plate fiesta is .

JohnofWessex · 04/12/2025 19:48

Personally I would put a Vet in every traffic police car to carry out a procedure more commonly associated with Tom Cats on the spot

JohnofWessex · 04/12/2025 19:54

Now if you want proper power I have driven one of the worlds fastest trains but the real skill wasnt put in by me, it was the fireman who made sure the safetys were a few pounds off lifting at the point where the Korovnik gave us the 'Right Away'

In the same way when the 8MG32's (military derived two stroke Sulzer diesels) were started on the MV's Brading and Southsea all you heard was a gentle purr, but if the old man was heavy on the controls when you were manoeuvring you ended up with a huge hole in the water by the propellers

JJWT · 04/12/2025 20:31

Scatter a bag of nails in your road

JohnofWessex · 04/12/2025 20:43

Why dont we have a meeting of the customers of Angry Mob Supplies outside the owners house at 8am on a Saturday?

CalzoneOnLegs · 04/12/2025 20:45

I hate that uneven firing Harley Davidson racket too

hattie43 · 04/12/2025 20:46

I’ve never understood why neighbours don’t get together and sort this . I cannot imagine being woken up every morning and just tolerate it.

blankcanvas3 · 04/12/2025 20:56

My car is a V8 but I’m so conscious that it is louder than a lot of other cars so I don’t start it very early or very late. It doesn’t pop or bang (intentionally) though 😬. Cannot stand people who intentionally modify their cars to do this. It’s embarrassing more than anything

TaterTots68 · 04/12/2025 21:44

YANBU. I have noticed an increase in extremely loud cars (backfiring, loud revving, wheelspinning etc) in the past year or so. There's also been an increase in night time crashes on certain roads (40mph limit but no cameras). I thought it was just here, but maybe not. We call it Small Willy Syndrome

BIL is in his 40s and has a convertible BMW that pops and bangs. He videos himself driving it through tunnels thinking he's really cool. I would imagine most people would disagree 🙈

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 04/12/2025 21:50

Current car has a nice throaty exhaust which is louder than the average, gets louder in Sport. Last car too had a good exhaust, I like it though appreciate not everyone does.
It's not a remapped car and doesn't 'pop and bang' though.
