WHY don't the police do anything about this? I'm f-ing sick of it😡. Every year the problem gets worse. I'm sitting here unable to concentrate because some idiot is racing around in a souped up car.

I don't know what they do, but their cars screech when they accelerate and then make a banging/exploding sound when they slow down – like someone has let off fireworks. They wake me up at night, and they disturb me when I'm trying to read or watch TV. It's really affecting my life. No one expects the police to catch every single one, but if they'd just fine a few, word would get around. These horrible, ignorant, vile, selfish little bas*ards are basically bullies. They know they upset people, and like all bullies their behaviour will just escalate until someone stops them.

This is where Section 59 is the best tool for the police for this type of anti social behaviour.

If this is true then almost all of your neighbours don't like you. They just won't tell you they think you're a twat to your face.

My eldest went through a phase of going to car meets when he was 15. No car of his own obviously! But he loved all the giant exhausts and bangs and explosions. A bit of a surprise as he’s autistic and used to clamp his hands over his ears at loud noises. He said he wanted a car like that when he was old enough. Now that he’s 17 and learning to drive age, he looks back and thinks how immature he was. That says it all for me. We live close to the countryside and often hear a lot of boy racers on the back roads with their roaring engines and popping exhausts. It’s bloody awful.

It's not 'legal' in the sense that it's an MOT fail.

It’s the motorbikes that piss me off. Especially at 2am when they drive down the road sounding like an atom bomb. I live in a leafy suburb! Why are there bikes with modded engines etc waking the entire neighbourhood up??

As a female petrol head in my 40's, my weekend car is louder than average - it's set up for track days which is what i mostly do with it. Anyone that purposely maps in "pops and bangs" are missing a braincell or two!!

However, saying that, i LOVE hearing the sound of loud cars (minus the crap pops and bangs) and will always stop what I'm doing to listen 😀

Roll on the day when petrol engines are finally banned. Oh, and don't expect a vintage car waiver. These cars aren't vintage; they're just noisy heaps of crap.

I don't know how they get away with it because your car fails its MOT if the exhaust is noisy.

Where I live the young farmers all have these souped up cars with roll bars and lights like Christmas trees. When they get married and have kids the car rots in the yard alongside all the old farm machinery.

It's electric cars that scare me. Some of them are so quiet and just appear from nowhere when Im out walking my dog. Especially when it's raining or very cold and I have to wear my hood up and a hat.
I do agree about the souped up idiot cars. I can hear them late at night as they screech around our out of town supermarket car park.

Came here to say this. There’s nothing worse than being creeped up on by an electric car. At least cars with loud exhausts give you a warning.

And most of the time modifications to the exhaust system and suspension, remapping etc haven't been reported to the insurance company, so the drivers insurance would be void. About time the police started seizing and sending them to the crusher.

It baffles me. If you work hard and save your money and buy your dream car, good luck to you. Enjoy. But you have no right to upset others. There is just no need to modify your exhaust so it screeches and bangs like a firework display.

There really ought to be a massive crackdown on anti-social behaviour. We don't take it anywhere near seriously enough in this country. It ruins lives. On almost every estate in the UK there are people who live in fear of loud, aggressive, intimidating neighbours. Controlling and restraining such people ought to be a police priority.

There is a certain type of person who is very dangerous and who always causes trouble. I mean people who are thick and boring but who also have massive egos and expect admiration and attention. Their thoughts probably run something like this "I'm great and I should be the centre of attention. I ought to be a rich YouTube star or a famous footballer or something. But instead I'm poor, have a low-status job, and seem to bore people when I speak. I struggle to string a sentence together, let alone say anything witty or interesting, so how can I get people to look at me? Guess I'll have to do what a five year-old does – make a loud noise."
