I have name changed for this. I am disgusted and embarrassed by the state of my teeth. I’m only 37 and don’t know how they got like this. I think the years I suffered from bulimia haven’t helped.

I am too embarrassed to go to the dentist. Can anyone help to reassure me somehow.

I voted yabu, but kindly and with a massive amount of sympathy. I have a terrible dental phobia.

There's no pic yet but they'll always have seen worse.

Just get down there.

Pepperedpickles · 03/12/2025 12:57

Your teeth are lovely! Honestly opened this expecting them to be horrendous but they’re perfectly normal, good teeth. Don’t be afraid to go to the dentist. Easier said than done but honesty you have nothing to be worried about. A good hygienist and a dental check up and you’ll be right as rain ❤️

AutumnAllTheWay · 03/12/2025 12:58

Oh my goodness, just seen the pic.

Are you serious?

Your teeth are fine. Still grt them looked at tho before trouble begins

EBearhug · 03/12/2025 12:58

Why do you think they awful? They look mostly straight and normal. I was expecting blackened, over-crowded rotting things! Thry look fine to me.

Bunnyotter1896 · 03/12/2025 13:00

What i pictured from your description was nothing like your photo. Your teeth are lovely.

user1471538283 · 03/12/2025 13:01

Your teeth are lovely! You ought to see the state of mine (inherited issues) and I go to the dentist!

NotrialNodeal · 03/12/2025 13:01

They are fine but your dentist would happily whiten them if you want this.

PinkFootstool · 03/12/2025 13:01

You are being absolutely ridiculous.

There is bugger all wrong with that picture.

I have fractured teeth, multiple fillings in almost every tooth, and they are all yellow from the dentine showing through due to weak and damaged enamel. They are all tiny and ground down and cannot be made to look nice (capped or crowned for example) due to all the issues I have.

Objectively, your teeth look very normal. See the dentist, they've seen it all anyway.

UserNumber56 · 03/12/2025 13:01

From the photo, I can't see anything obviously wrong. Those look like well-cared for teeth, to me.

Do you have bleeding gums or tooth pain? What is concerning you about your teeth?

DappledThings · 03/12/2025 13:02

Those are completely normal teeth.

DramaAlpaca · 03/12/2025 13:03

Your teeth look perfectly normal.

ResusciAnnie · 03/12/2025 13:03

What’s wrong with them? Paranoid about my teeth now, they’re worse than that!!

givingitanothergo · 03/12/2025 13:03

Hi, the pic doesn’t show up but no I understand your fear and have been there myself.

my parents stopped taking me to the dentist when I was a kid and over the years they got bad, last year at 36 (and 26weeks pregnant 🤣) I finally made the jump to just do it and go, I wish I had done it sooner to be honest!

I found a private practice, one that had pictures of the dentists on their website so I knew who I was seeing and I just got off my ass and went. It was not easy, but the first visit was only to check and see what needed doing, they will not do any work on the first visit so you can mentally prepare yourself for that after!

my dentist knew I was nervous and he was amazing throughout all my appointments to get me where I am now!
I had to have a large break inbetween some of my appointments because of pregnancy and he even joked that he didn’t think I’d come back to complete my treatment 🤣

EddyNeddy · 03/12/2025 13:05

Your teeth are absolutely fine. Enamel thins with age and our teeth naturally get a bit yellower. That doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong. Your teeth aren't stained and there are no visible signs of decay.

StepAwayFromMyCrutches · 03/12/2025 13:05

Another one saying I am not sure what we are supposed to be being disgusted by. I see a normal set of teeth.

hby9628 · 03/12/2025 13:07

Your teeth are fine. My teeth are awful, I’m only 46 so trying to keep them as long as possible so I go to the dentist every couple of months. You’ll be fine!

mochimoons · 03/12/2025 13:31

Your teeth look really good and totally normal! It looks like you have a little bit of plaque build up and a hygienist can sort that out pretty easily which will also help with discolouration too. Definitely doesn't look like much to worry about at all!

BeWellJ · 03/12/2025 13:33

Your teeth are completely normal.

There are dentists who specialise in treating people who feel anxious about treatment- you may be able to find one near you.

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 03/12/2025 13:48

Your teeth are fine! Need a bit of a clean but that is literally what the dentist does!
Go.... it will be fine.

BIossomtoes · 03/12/2025 13:51

Absolutely normal nice teeth. Have a look at some “before” pictures on dentists’ websites - your teeth look like the after pictures.

HaveACheekyChristmas · 03/12/2025 14:19

It's hard to tell from that picture what you are concerned about.

It looks like your second left incisor is protruding markedly or overlapping with the adjacent incisor. Is that your issue? A front view would help.

Or is your concern discolouration or plaque on the lower pre-molars/ molars or something else?

SparkleSpriteDust · 03/12/2025 14:24

They look beautiful! Do not feel embarrassed to go in for a hygiene appointment and a check up, I can categorically assure you (work in the industry) that dentists see far worse and they do NOT judge.

Xmasdemon · 03/12/2025 14:24

They're really not that bad although I can see your enamel has thinned. NHS now do sedation treatment if you meet the requirements, tell them you have a phobia of the dentist and ask about that. Go to the GP and ask for diazepam and take it an hour before the initial checkup

CraftyPlayer · 03/12/2025 14:27

Honestly your teeth don’t look bad at all! But go to the dentist, they will be lovely. Tell them you’re nervous.
I was in desperate need of a couple of fillings so had to go in September. It was the first time I’d been to the dentist in over 20 years! They were absolutely lovely and so reassuring.
