I have name changed for this. I am disgusted and embarrassed by the state of my teeth. I’m only 37 and don’t know how they got like this. I think the years I suffered from bulimia haven’t helped.

I am too embarrassed to go to the dentist. Can anyone help to reassure me somehow.

I agree with everyone else. These look to me to be a good healthy set of teeth.

People with a set of perfectly even brilliant white teeth probably acquired them in Turkey.

hairbearbunches · 03/12/2025 14:30

Your teeth look really nice, as others have already pointed out.

I had a bad experience with a dentist and didn't go for almost 2 decades, I was fastidious about looking after my teeth though. I eventually found a dentist who specialised in anxious patients, spent about 18 months farting about on his website and finally plucked up courage and made an appointment. You need to do the same. My guy is brilliant. He kept getting me in every 3 months, ostensibly just to sit in the chair and be leaned back. Totally desensitised me to the whole dental experience and now I'm quite happy to go every year for a check up and clean. Someone who understands dental anxiety and treating people who have had a bad experience in the past is key to getting over your fear. I actually look forward to seeing my dentist now!

Is teeth dysmorphia a thing? They’re better than mine.

Grammarninja · 03/12/2025 14:31

Op, I was in the same boat as you until 2 months ago. Hadn't been to the dentist in 7 years as I was afraid of what they'd say. Finally bit the bullet and turned out I was still cavity-free at the ripe old age of 43 and that the only damage I had was to my gums (minimal) purely because I hadn't had them professionally cleaned in so long.
I thought I was going to need a filling in every tooth!
Your teeth look like you take good care of them. Go to the dentist! And make your next appointment while there! I'm convinced it will be all good news!

What's wrong with them?

I think so. I hate mine but I think other people probably wouldn’t see what I do

I had never gone as an adult (19 years) due to extreme dental phobia but I had to go for an emergency appointment to get my tooth pulled out when there was a hole pushing into my nerve. He said he was expecting a lot worse because of how long it had been but that I wasn't the longest avoider! Even if you just go and sit in the chair and chat first you've made the first step! X

dimple285 · 03/12/2025 14:40

They're better than mine OP, they look lovely.

I was expecting to see a row of Billy Bob teeth and am slightly disappointed 😂

Are you scared because youre embarrassed about them? Really dont be, maybe they could do with a bit of a whiten but most people would benefit cosmetically from that!

Berlinlover · 03/12/2025 14:48

You should see my teeth after six rounds of chemo, yours are fine x

GumFossil · 03/12/2025 14:49

Unless you give more detail, it’s hard to advise.

They look normal to me - maybe tartar or staining near the gums, but that’s an easy fix. And as others have said, you could get them whitened if the colour bothers you.

ToadRage · 03/12/2025 14:50

Your teeth are honestly not that bad and I guarantee any dentist will have seen worse. I'm religious about my teeth and visit my dentist regularly but this wasn't always the case, my brother had dentist phobia which rubbed off on me so I avoided it like the plague but my current dentist is lovely.

What on earth are you talking about @SwingleSingle Confused Your teeth are fine. Look like they need a polish and scale, as there is some plaque near the gums (that can lead to bad breath, and eventually gum disease,) but they look fairly straight and look like normal coloured teeth.

lonelylucy · 03/12/2025 14:56

They look incredibly lovely and healthy, YABU

martinagiraffe · 03/12/2025 14:57

I didn't go to the dentist for 15+ years due to fear but in the end bit the bullet and it was fine! I need 2 fillings and both were painless. Now I happily go twice a year for a check up and hygienist.

Just go!

Summerhillsquare · 03/12/2025 14:58

Ha, I wish mine were like that, and I am spending a ton on orthodontic treatment at the moment!

I had a dental phobia for about 5 years, it is curable.

DottieMoon · 03/12/2025 15:09

What are you talking about?! Your teeth as absolutely fine.

Empress13 · 03/12/2025 15:11

Your teeth look perfect to me

Bunnyotter1896 · 03/12/2025 13:00

What i pictured from your description was nothing like your photo. Your teeth are lovely.

Me too. Massive dentist phobia and years of being fobbed off. Now they are a mess which will cost me thousands

InterestedDad37 · 03/12/2025 15:16

Jeez, I thought mine were OK, but you make me look like Shane McGowan by comparison! Nothing wrong with your smilers! 😁

Isobel201 · 03/12/2025 15:21

Go for it, you won't regret it. I got my teeth sorted in 2018 and I'm still reaping the benefits despite moving dentists. I had a few fillings put in and a broken wisdom tooth removed.

Almostwelsh · 03/12/2025 16:16

I think that picture is AI.

Gettingbysomehow · 03/12/2025 16:19

The only thing that's wrong with your teeth is that you need to see a hygienist like we all do. Job done. I honestly have no idea why you are being so daft. The dentist doesn't care, they will just give you advice.

dizzydizzydizzy · 03/12/2025 16:20

They look fine. Good in fact. Straight and evenly spaced. I thought they were going to be like somebody I hav seen at my local supermarket who has missing teeth and the ones she does have are at all angles.
