This is madness. Can the last taxpayer in the UK please close the door behind them.

Also if you are in a couple, there are minimum AET’s. So a couple only has to earn one 30 hour minimum wage equivalent between them to qualify for universal credit and to not be made to search for more hours

Yeah, I was aware of that just because when we were waiting for our sons DLA to go through, DH had his hours lowered and I was constantly called in for appointments because we didn't meet the AET but I also couldn't work so it was a bit of a nightmare at the time until DH's hours picked up again and then when my son's DLA came through I was no longer required by them to work.

They are. The landlord's mortgage.
I don't know the exact details, but UC will pay towards mortgage interest after a few months of claiming, and I believe it is a loan. Why should the government be paying off your asset?

They're not if they're only paying the interest. I can't see how forcing people to lose their home - and possibly remain in debt to their mortgage provider - and then have to pay potentially more for their rent is a better or more cost effective plan.

At the moment there is no consequence to bad anti social behaviour.

Yes the children should be put in care and their parents denied housing and benefits.

Yes it would be expensive for the children but absolutely necessary. In the long term, once people realise their behaviour has consequences I bet their behaviour would be modified.

The Care system has terrible outcomes, you want to traumatize the children and reduce their life chances to punish the parents?

I would say the children woukd be traumatised if they are left with terrible parents. Bad parenting severely damages childhood and their adult potential outcome.

NI increased by 1.2%. That’s about £25 a month for your average nursery worker. If your childcare bill has gone up 30%, it’s not down to NIC increases.

For low earners the reduction in the earning threshold had a bigger impact than the rate increase. That added another £60. So the overall increase in cost was £85 per month.

It's lose lose for these kids. That's why the 2 child cap was put in place to begin - to discourage parents from having children they couldn't afford. It turns out that feckless parents just don't give a shit and will have them anyway.

Removing a child from their parents tends to be a last resort because it is acknowledged what poor outcomes children in care have.

I think many working people are just sick of feeling like working decent jobs just to survive. When have a mortgage (through saving for a deposit and continuing working so can make repayments) get no help but those who don’t work or work the minimum they can and don’t save get housed. Yes not all but with such lack of social housing a worker with no disabilities as to either suck up high rents or get a mortgage. I feel it is better long term for people to own as won’t be needing long term housing benefits but it can be a struggle at times whilst raising children.

We pay our taxes/NI contributions but then hear we may never get a state pension. We pay for prescriptions/dentists and sometimes go without to save on cost. We pay childcare to keep our jobs returning to work whilst our babies still need us and watch some mums staying home for years getting to do activities with their child.

The welfare bill seems to be spinning out of control and we all know someone who admits or boasts about receiving disability money for anxiety, depression, ADHD but working the money on things which are junk or a luxury which some workers cannot afford. No one begrudges a severally disabled person a good quality of life and slreasonable adjustments to continue working but saying too anxious to work or leave house then spending benefit money on holidays/days out is a joke! Need a move to paying for care packages.

I haven’t been abroad since 2016 and cannot afford the luxury even tho would love to take my daughter on holiday but hear of people who get benefits and don’t work due to being anxious and having ADHD children who do go on holidays etc and it becomes frustrating. Not sure this government is working for working families.

Oh and just to be absolutely clear my son gets the highest rates of DLA due to his severe disabilities and we csnt afford to go abroad either the last time I went abroad was in 2008
We have had one holiday in six years a week away on a Haven site.

I think this does sum up how a lot of people feel. It’s tough working with young family

In my area, that wouldn't mean you'd get social housing. It would mean temporary accommodation for years which almost always means a hotel in my area.

The only reason we got social housing so quickly is because my private rental property wasn't suitable for my disabled child so went straight to the top. Otherwise I'd still be in my private rental with no hope of social housing.
