To ask if anyone has been wiped out with nasty cold with sore throat recently

Started with earache last Sunday. Sore throat Monday - had an afternoon nap which is unusual.
Glands up in neck on Tuesday , throat felt like swallowing shards of glass. Lost voice, sense of taste and smell. Again, fell asleep during the day.

Coughing on Wednesday which is particularly painful because of sharpness in throat and feeling cold.
Slept most of Thursday and Friday. No fever but tickly ear, nose and sore throat/ chesty cough.

Still tired today and haven’t been able to do much let alone think about commuting to work tomorrow.

anyone else having something similar?

I haven't but several people have at work. One person's just returned after about 3 weeks. Another ended up in hospital as they couldn't even swallow liquid. Others have also been really ill with it.

1990s · 30/11/2025 22:00

Yep, on day 12 of sore throat.

bumblefeline · 30/11/2025 22:01

Yes me and DH. It was pure evil. Both ended up on antibiotics in the end.

Threefullskips · 30/11/2025 22:02

I haven't but the kids were really ill and several friends. Fingers crossed I'm not next.

LiteraryBambi · 30/11/2025 22:03

Yep have been floored with it for days. Likely covid.

Flibbertyfloo · 30/11/2025 22:04

I've had it. Razor blade throat. Apparently covid is presenting that way in a lot of people atm.

CreepingCrone · 30/11/2025 22:22

Yep me, floored me for nearly 4 weeks. I've only really felt better over the last week (wk5). X3 negative Covid tests

Winterbaby21s · 30/11/2025 23:06

I’m on day 8 of this. Hope you feel better soon.

MeDadMeDad · 01/12/2025 00:01

Not me but my DM had it lasted well over a week, then my Sister got ill with it, she's just getting back to normal now and now my other SIster has cough, sore throat etc...

Hope you get well soon, it's horrible and seems to linger xx

TheAutumnCrow · 01/12/2025 00:05

Yes. Finally tested today for Covid. Faint line, but positive.

Costacoffeeplease · 01/12/2025 00:05

My husband and I both had it last month, it lasted at least 4 weeks and we still have odd days with a sore throat now

MissSookieStackhouse · 01/12/2025 00:10

Sounds like the current variant of Covid. My partner and I had it recently. We tested as we were planning a visit to his elderly parents who have heath issues. It came up positive - the awful sore throat is the current stand out symptom.

Mathsbabe · 01/12/2025 00:11

Yep, three adults here, not Covid.

Arghhhhggggggggggg · 01/12/2025 00:12

Not me personally ( although I'm worried it will get me 😅 ) but two of my friends ( separate families/ households ) and one of their children have been unwell recently with a sore throat and an awful cold. All 3 of them slept for 3 days in a row

mrsfollowill · 01/12/2025 00:20

100% I had it week before last week- I WFH so needed a nap at lunchtime so managed- poor DH still has it now- he's proper poorly and has been for over a week- I think it is the latest version of covid, DH is rock hard though far more than me. He went to work all week and probably infected a lot of people- it's just a cold he said! We are both on leave tomorrow and Tuesday though so are soldiering on! I hate the loss of taste and smell so I cannot eat- like chewing wet cardboard. |'m much better now but he is wrecked, Horrible.

Itiswhysofew · 01/12/2025 00:31

I had a cold about a month ago that just knocked me out. Sore throat & wracking cough. I couldn't function properly from overwhelming tiredness. Even when the cold had gone the tiredness continued for about 3 weeks.

HeyThereDelila · 01/12/2025 04:31

Yes, last week. Which was a barrel of laughs when trying to look after a newborn!

waddleandtoddle · 01/12/2025 04:47

Yes!

WeevilStepmother · 01/12/2025 05:23

Another yep! Had a sore throat then a cough. No fever but felt absolutely wiped out for a week, missed plans and no energy. Still snotty almost 3 weeks later and have had a headache daily for the last 8 days. 2 negative Covid tests early on but I'm not convinced...

beenrumbled · 01/12/2025 06:31

Me last week. Sore throat for two days then a constantly running nose to the point I can give old Rudolph a run for his money. I have lost most of my hearing in both ears but strangely don't have earache just pressure. No real cough yet but I feel as if my trachea is irritated every time I breath in. Totally wiped out too so I've done nothing I wanted to this weekend. I've not had a cold in months and I'm normally healthy so this has floored me!
I did test for COVID as DH is clinically extremely vulnerable but it was negative.

Sartre · 01/12/2025 06:35

Yep, I believe it’s the current covid strain. We all had it a few weeks ago and all had the razor blade throat which is how we knew. DH also had a fever.

Bikergran · 01/12/2025 06:42

Came back from holiday middle of last month and immediately went down with appalling cold and sore throat. Took a good 3 weeks to clear, felt like hell. Now started Saturday with truly awful fever/cough/headache, coughing all night which has left my throat really sore. My daughter has had it for 5 days now. COVID tests negative.

itsmehere1 · 01/12/2025 07:08

Wow, sounds like it’s definitely a thing at the moment then!
I have woken up coughing and can’t stop when trying to talk. Hope we all feel better soon 💐

Poppyseedcake · 01/12/2025 07:54

I’ve had something like that 2 weeks. Over the worst but don’t have physical energy. Not COVID (I tested twice). Coughing wouldn’t stop and made me sick.

Nincompoo · 01/12/2025 07:55

Me, I had most of last week off work with it. Proper knocked me about! It’s gone round my office like wildfire.!
