To ask if anyone has been wiped out with nasty cold with sore throat recently

itsmehere1 · 30/11/2025 21:58

Started with earache last Sunday. Sore throat Monday - had an afternoon nap which is unusual.
Glands up in neck on Tuesday , throat felt like swallowing shards of glass. Lost voice, sense of taste and smell. Again, fell asleep during the day.

Coughing on Wednesday which is particularly painful because of sharpness in throat and feeling cold.
Slept most of Thursday and Friday. No fever but tickly ear, nose and sore throat/ chesty cough.

Still tired today and haven’t been able to do much let alone think about commuting to work tomorrow.

anyone else having something similar?

Two weeks ago. Covid test said not covid but not sure I agree

Nincompoo · 01/12/2025 07:57

Oh and mine definitely wasn’t Covid - I had that in October.

PrioritisePleasure24 · 01/12/2025 08:01

FLU A and RSV are highly currently, Covid is still there but not prevalent. I work with children in hospital, also other usual viruses about too like RHino, parainfluenza, adenovirus: all very similar symptoms!

Mine started with a tickle in my throat then a bit of a cough, then a very dry cough all in my throat/upper airway. Then three days later a cold arrived. Proper sneezy runny one. I’m on day 5 and the coughs much better, yesterday was my worse day. I’ve not been as bad as others on here.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 01/12/2025 08:04

Yep, three solid weeks of it. Still got a bit of a cough. It's COVID 🙄

Stressedoutmummyof3 · 01/12/2025 08:04

My DD had something very similar about 3 weeks ago. She's better now but still not 100%. She's still coughing loads and is far more tired than usual. DH apparently had it too but not as bad although he is also coughing.
DD2 and DS have had colds but not really bad ones. I am also suffering but not coughing.
Loads of people have had really awful colds this winter.
We've all had the flu vaccine but I wonder if it was a mild case of flu.

BlueSkies2026 · 01/12/2025 08:11

Numerous threads on this in the Health section. I had it. It came on really quickly, lots of gastro issues, flu symptoms etc. I went for total rest and the fever broke in about 2 days, but I'm left with a residual cough.

There's Flu A and Flu B tests on Amazon, I wish I'd ordered one as it wasn't Covid.

Everyone been dropping like flies at work.

Oblomov25 · 01/12/2025 08:12

I was 2 weeks ago. Shocked at how unwell I was. Then ds2 got it, actually GP diagnosed him as chest infection, antibiotics, in bed all week very weak.

MiddleAgedDread · 01/12/2025 08:18

I haven’t felt as ill as some of you sound but I had a persistent cold for over 3 weeks - ears and throat first, then snot and sneezing, then coughing, still lingering and I’m into week 5 and can sleep 9-10 hours a night.

ComfortFoodCafe · 01/12/2025 08:19

Yep hit me yesterday. Spent 16 hours asleep and still feel wiped out, sore throat gone but have a really chesty cough Angry was absolutely fine saturday!

Fridaysgirl17 · 01/12/2025 08:23

We all had it here in our house,my 2 boys were down for a week with it,youngest had a rotten cough, oldest had headaches, cough etc & then I got it 2 weeks on & my throat finally feels normal,I'm still coughing, not as much but it catches me off guard,if I stop after walking, chatting with someone etc still feel a little bunged up but have more energy. I'm in Ireland & everyone is getting it,it's quite prevelent

MrsMariaReynolds · 01/12/2025 08:31

I had it a few weeks ago--razor blade sore throat, horrible fatigue, loss of smell and taste and plugged up ears. Tested positive for COVID about a week into it.

I now have another cold at the moment that is frighteningly similar, without the loss of taste and smell. Children at the school I work at are dropping like flies.

User1786 · 01/12/2025 08:34

Yes. Possibly influenza which is doing the rounds unseasonably early. Had it 2 weeks ago and I was wiped out for 4 days. Pretty much in bed and temperature rising to 40C. I had the vaccine but this years strain is still causing symptoms, probably would have ended up in hospital if I hadn’t had the vaccine though as I have respiratory problems

StitchHappens · 01/12/2025 08:47

Yep. Sore throat for a few days, nose won't stop running, and ears are all over the place.. I'm pretty sure it's covid, as I've also had a couple of nightmares, which I seem to get with it.

Tomomomatoes · 01/12/2025 08:49

Another yes! Negative covid and flu test. But totally knocked for six. Unable to really move on the worst day and the cold and fly drugs did NOTHING

JennyForeigner · 01/12/2025 10:59

Another one here in the East Mids. School has been emptied out by it - I nursed one health vulnerable DC through it and she had a terrible time - slept 22 hours a day for three days and wouldn't have a bite of food, then the next who was more classically gastro symptoms into flu symptoms. And now of course I have it and feel like I have been hit by a truck. Muscle pains, sore throat and headache. Also testing negative for COVID but surprised by the results.

HangryBrickShark · 01/12/2025 11:14

I've had something on and off for the past two weeks, sore throat, aching shoulders, and between my shoulder blades, feeling nauseous and extremely tired.

Been at new job past two weeks, come in today to be met with an empty office and everyone off sick! Oops.

cinquanta · 01/12/2025 11:19

Yes, in the the third week now.

Olinguito · 01/12/2025 12:52

Unfortunately I'm a member of this club too. Into week 2. Loads of strange aches and pains, fever, cough and now have completely lost my voice. Tested negative for covid.

Flibbertyfloo · 01/12/2025 22:40

Negative covid test doesn't mean it isn't covid. We have to test a lot due to a vulnerable family member, and I've found that if I'm ill with covid for say 10 days, there's probably only a 12 hour window in which I will actually test positive.

I’m pretty sure mine isn’t Covid - I had that at the beginning of October and tested positive.

Flowertopz · 02/12/2025 09:43

Mine came on suddenly Sunday evening . Sore throat aching all over horrendous cough and hoarse voice.headaches i keep drifting in and out of sleep then cant sleep threw the night as waking every hour and a half have had to take time of work which I never do I can usually power threw anything but I cant power threw this

MannersAreAll · 02/12/2025 09:46

We've all had it. 8yo tested positive for Covid in hospital.

Rest of us didn't, but Dr said we very likely all had it and they're not finding testing very reliable atm.

MannersAreAll · 02/12/2025 09:47

My 8yo had Covid at the end of September and had tested positive again this time so it is possible.

Yeah, same here.

I did test positive a few days ago but it was very faint, a real squinter.

Franklyannoyed · 02/12/2025 09:54

Me too, I started coming down with it last Wednesday, really sore throat, and it’s alleviating now. But I still have it.
