Rachel isn’t Jewish either it turns out.
I’m not the pp you were replying to, but I do absolutely think she should call out antisemitism wherever she sees it. However, I think it’s unfortunate that at times she misrepresents herself as part of the Jewish community. Probably because she feels so passionate as an ally, but it’s as well to be clear about things. Her voice is given more weight because she’s often assumed to be Jewish herself and to be speaking for her community.
I also think some of her articles or articles she is associated with give the impression that most Irish people are anti-semitic when they are not. The vast majority of Irish people were horrorstruck by the Oct 7 attacks. Statements like the following make it seem like Ireland celebrated, but that is not the truth.
When Irish people came out in celebration at the horrors committed on October 7th, Rachel, a PhD student from Dublin, stepped upto the plate.
(from a piece written by Jonny Gould and Rachel Moiselle on Substack).
I do think that Ireland has been targeted as anti-semitic because of their position on the war in Gaza. I do of course recognise there is anti-semitism here unfortunately and it has grown as it has worldwide recently. But the Irish people as a whole are not anti-semitic and did not celebrate the absolute horror of Oct 7th. I think Rachel needs to make that clearer even as she supports the Irish Jewish community.
