That this piece of furniture is the wrong colour...?

We ordered a piece of furniture painting in a specific colour, but I think the manufacturer has done it in the wrong one. Which of these two colours: De Nimes or Down Pipe do you think it's been painted in? (Image might take a few minutes to show up!)
AIBU: De Nimes
AINBU: Down Pipe

De nimes.

Daffodilsareyellow1 · 29/11/2025 11:41

It doesn't really look like any of the colours to me!

FartyAnimal · 29/11/2025 11:42

Most like de nimes

ElsaLing · 29/11/2025 11:43

Neither of them! De Nimes looks more blue and Downpipe looks much darker. But it could be an issue with the lighting in the photos.

tuvamoodyson · 29/11/2025 11:43

De Nimes.

ItsOnlyHobnobs · 29/11/2025 11:43

I voted De Nimes.

Farrow and Ball colours especially though are notorious for looking different in different lighting (as all colours are) but I’ve noticed it more so with their range.

Gothzilla · 29/11/2025 11:43

De Nimes

RosesAndHellebores · 29/11/2025 11:44

De Nimes. It might seem a bit off but you will acclimatise to it. Unless v v expensive these things can only ever be a guide.

Slothey · 29/11/2025 11:44

It looks most like De Nimes, but there’s such wide variation both in how they print the colour chart, and in what the paints look like in different light, that you might have a tough time arguing that.

socool · 29/11/2025 11:44

Colour charts are just a guide, well that's my opinion. The real colour shows up on the wall, furniture etc. depending on where it is situated WRT light, shade, windows etc.

FWIW both shades are good.

Mercurial123 · 29/11/2025 11:45

Impossible to say as mentioned it depends on the lighting. Definitely looks closer to De Nimes though.

Invisablepanic · 29/11/2025 11:46

It might be easier to tell if you cut both colours out and put them flat on in the surface because to my eyes it doesn't quite look like either. The finish could also change the colour slightly (emulsion, satin etc) from whatever they use on the card.

user1492757084 · 29/11/2025 11:47

It looks the same colour as Down Pipe to me, though perhaps whatever it was painted onto makes it appear slightly lighter.
Did you use the recommended under coat?

It could also appear lighter due to being less or more glossy.

To me De Nimes contains more blue.

notallwhowanderare · 29/11/2025 11:48

Closest to De Nimes.

gogomomo2 · 29/11/2025 11:48

Doesn’t quite look like either and the two pictures look different in colour. Definitely not down pipe though which looks darker

Enrichetta · 29/11/2025 11:49

If you look at your walls, each one may seem slightly different- it’s because of how the light falls on them.

FlappicusSmith · 29/11/2025 11:49

I agree it doesn't look exactly like either, but I'm putting that more down to the paint finish (which I expect is eggshell, where as the samnple card will be a flatter finish/ emulsion...

De nimes

Greggsit · 29/11/2025 11:51

It's most like De Nimes BUT it looks a lot darker in the second picture, so it's hard to compare. If you had said the photos were of two different pieces that don't match, id believe you.

JaninaDuszejko · 29/11/2025 11:52

F&B don't use proper paint samples on their colour charts so they can be a bit off (every other premium paint companies do).

In the photo the background looks closest to de Nimes or Oval Room Blue on the colour chart.

RipePeach · 29/11/2025 11:53

I think it look more like Oval Room Blue…

TheRealGoose · 29/11/2025 11:53

Op farrow and ball paint has a lot of pigment in it and it means it looks different in different lights, an example. I put pigeon in my living room, I had to redo it, it looked steel grey, I then used it in the spare bedroom, where it was a lovely greeny grey,

they likely have used the right paint, simply the lighting is impacting it.

schoolfriend · 29/11/2025 11:55

It’s much more like de nimes

sanityisamyth · 29/11/2025 11:56

Inchyra blue

FlappicusSmith · 29/11/2025 11:56

Yes, I konw that F&B changes a lot in the light. It's just that it looks so much more one (the wrong) colour than another (the right one), held up against the sample card in the same light!

It's a bit annoying as it wasn't cheap...
