That this piece of furniture is the wrong colour...?

We ordered a piece of furniture painting in a specific colour, but I think the manufacturer has done it in the wrong one. Which of these two colours: De Nimes or Down Pipe do you think it's been painted in? (Image might take a few minutes to show up!)
AIBU: De Nimes
AINBU: Down Pipe

It looks like oval room blue most to me

EasternStandard · 29/11/2025 12:14

Closest to De Nimes but a bit darker than that

Graciously · 29/11/2025 12:16

Did they definitely use F and B paint? Not a ‘match’ that’s cheaper?

CatFaceCatFace · 29/11/2025 12:16

I've found this with farrow and ball in the past. You'd expect a slight difference, but I tried a cinder rose sample in DDs room and it looked absolutely nothing like the colour chart. Ditto some of the blues in another room

OneRealOchreHiker · 29/11/2025 12:19

It looks like my kitchen, which DP calls Battle ship grey 🫠

ghostiewhisp · 29/11/2025 12:20

Definitely De Nimes, downpipe is way darker

RedRiverShore5 · 29/11/2025 12:25

it looks like a light Downpipe, De Nimes is more Bluey green

Peridot1 · 29/11/2025 12:27

I think it’s more like Down Pipe although maybe not quite as dark.

Peridot1 · 29/11/2025 12:31

These are both Down Pipe on the same unit but the light is shining through slightly differently on the upper section. It’s F&B mixed rather than the real thing though,

Quite. When we were choosing a F&B colour we tried all four options on each of the four walls over several days. The variations on different walls, in different weather and times of day, were incredible.

But it’s much closer to De Nimes than Downpipe.

Bundleflower · 29/11/2025 12:41

I think it’s down pipe and is lighter than it appears in the sample. I think the other one is far too blue to be the colour used.

NotForTheMoneyandNotForTheApplause · 29/11/2025 12:44

Not exactly like either, closer to de nimes

InLoveWithAI · 29/11/2025 12:46

Oval room blue...

Giraffemug30 · 29/11/2025 12:50

Personally I think it looks like downpipe but with different lighting or is coming out lighter on the walls, it looks the same tone and it's not got enough blue in it to be de nimes

That looks like the op’s colour

jeaux90 · 29/11/2025 13:05

I have downpipe in my bathroom which looks like your furniture colour. It’s lighter than you think for sure.

Thesummer · 29/11/2025 13:19

We used Downpipe on our stair bannisters and although I don't mind it it's SO much lighter than expected and I think that's what has happened in your situation too. In hindsight I was probably after something like Railings.

bridgetreilly · 29/11/2025 13:22

In the photo it’s De Nimes but I would easily believe it could be Downpipe in reality.

OhDear111 · 29/11/2025 13:25

It’s neither! De Nimes is a soft teal. I have it in my cloakroom. It’s not a grey. Down pipe is a strong darker grey and your furniture isn’t that either. I think it’s a mixed standard colour they have fobbed you off with!

Augustone · 29/11/2025 13:33

De Nimes

Mama2many73 · 29/11/2025 13:41

I think a better comparison would be to cut the 2 colours side by side against the item.

Paint can be very different under different lights. B&Q have different light boxes to put the swatch card in and the differences are quite stark.

squashyhat · 29/11/2025 13:53

Nothing at all useful to add but I would love to have been in the product design meeting with who ever came up with Downpipe for the name of a paint colour 🤣

user1476613140 · 29/11/2025 13:58

Very difficult to tell due to lighting.

F&B don't use proper paint samples on their colour charts so they can be a bit off (every other premium paint companies do).

In the photo the background looks closest to de Nimes or Oval Room Blue on the colour chart.

Yes, they used to be proper, separate bits of card stuck on. Now they are printed onto shiny card and look awful.
