That this piece of furniture is the wrong colour...?

We ordered a piece of furniture painting in a specific colour, but I think the manufacturer has done it in the wrong one. Which of these two colours: De Nimes or Down Pipe do you think it's been painted in? (Image might take a few minutes to show up!)
AIBU: De Nimes
AINBU: Down Pipe

@StrawberrySquash Get testers or A4 card with colours. These are accurate. Just a tiny 1 inch square is useless.

Yes, when you have narrowed down colours. But at stage one I want a big range! Would never paint a whole room on the basis of a half inch square, fear not!

OhDear111 · 29/11/2025 14:48

I usually have a small range as I know the basic look I want. It’s just which “shade”.

deeahgwitch · 29/11/2025 15:28

It’s closer to De Nimes than Downpipe which is much darker.

665theneighborofthebeast · 29/11/2025 16:04

Tbf this looks like the dark tones undercoat....are you sure they put the final colour on ?

FlappicusSmith · 29/11/2025 22:51

It was meant to be Down Pipe. I think it looks more like De Nimes. In any case, it's much bluer/ lighter than I was expecting :(

Did they use actual F&B paint, or just colour match it?

CandyCaneKisses · 30/11/2025 09:41

It looks like Oval blue room.

ChangingSocks · 30/11/2025 09:52

If you have chosen Down Pipe I would say the outcome is really off no matter what light it is in. How disappointing!

Tomrrowandtomorrowandtommorrow · 30/11/2025 09:53

Oval room

OneWildNightWithJBJ · 30/11/2025 10:05

I thought I posted yesterday... I do think it looks far more like Down Pipe. De Nimes is much bluer. It's a different shade though, as you say. Do you feel any differently about it today??

Nothing at all useful to add but I would love to have been in the product design meeting with who ever came up with Downpipe for the name of a paint colour 🤣

Or Dead Salmon!

Talipesmum · 30/11/2025 10:23

Can you post pictures with the sample cards flat against the furniture, rather than at right angles to it? It makes it much harder to tell the colour as the light falls so differently.

OhDear111 · 30/11/2025 10:31

Definitely not De Nimes from your photo. It’s too grey. Looks like a standard grey paint they have tried to colour match and it’s wrong. Certainly not Downpipe.

ladygindiva · 30/11/2025 10:33

Denimes

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 30/11/2025 10:38

Down pipe can look a lot lighter depending on the light.

PGmicstand · 30/11/2025 10:55

Daffodilsareyellow1 · 29/11/2025 11:41

It doesn't really look like any of the colours to me!

Agree, it doesn't seem to quite match either.

AlohaRose · 30/11/2025 11:01

It’s impossible to tell from your photos. The piece of furniture doesn’t even look the same colour between the two pictures. It does look more like De Nimes but hopefully you didn’t choose the colour just based on what was on the sample card. Did you have a tester pot and paint some on a larger piece of board or even paper to check?

FlappicusSmith · 30/11/2025 12:29

There was a limited palette of options. I chose Down Pipe. De Nimes was also an option (which I didn't consider - as too blue for the room it's going in) as was Railings (which I discounted as too black). I thought Down Pipe would be more of an antricite colour as that's what it looks like on F&B colour card. It's a lot lighter/ bluer than I was expecting and looks a lot closer, out of the options they offer, to De Nimes than any of the others (inc. Down Pipe!). It still looks nice - just not the shade we were after!

@FlappicusSmith

Neither. This is my job.

is it hand painted or sprayed painted? Spray paint because of the ultra smooth finish gives a slight difference in the colour that you see on the chart.

butnin this case, it s wrong as it is neither. Which ine did you want?

OhDear111 · 30/11/2025 14:44

@FlappicusSmith There’s no substitute for tester pots or cards really. Better than a mistake.
