Is this a police job? Threatened by Vinted seller

I know I’m not, but posting for traffic as no idea what to do.
Item for Christmas arrived today and was clearly fake so applied for a refund via Vinted. I’ve had a series of threatening messages from the seller saying he needs the money, and he has my address so will come and find me. He included a photo of himself holding an air rifle. I’m not easily spooked but feel really scared now as he does have my address and seems very angry. I’ve filed a “help” through Vinted but they may not even read it for 48 hours. Do I call 111? On my own with 2 kids so feel really on edge.

101 not 999

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 28/11/2025 16:38

Thank god for that last update. I like to think I don’t intimidate easily but fucking hell those messages were menacing.

CockSpadget · 28/11/2025 16:38

OH my days OP, that is horrific! Hope the police get it sorted quick!

Weren't they?! They would really upset me.
OP, I hope you can relax a bit now. I hope it works out ok.

spiderlight · 28/11/2025 16:40

I'm glad they're taking it seriously.

KateShugakIsALegend · 28/11/2025 16:40

Well done. Sending support.

Mummyoflittledragon · 28/11/2025 16:41

This is such an awful thing to do to someone. I hope the police can sort this out asap.

ApolloandDaphne · 28/11/2025 16:42

You were absolutely correct to contact the police.

REP22 · 28/11/2025 16:42

That's good to hear. I hope they are able to reassure you and take the necessary action against the nasty little cockwomble.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 28/11/2025 16:44

I think sending an image of someone holding a gun is probably enough to make the police interested. Hopefully Vinted will have some genuine personal data attached to the account. Selling fake goods through these companies could be linked to organised crime or of course could be some teenager being a twat in their bedroom. Either way the likelihood of anyone actually wanting to do you harm for £70’ is realistically zero.

Netcurtainnelly · 28/11/2025 16:44

How does a simple buying and selling app up like this?

MrsTerryPratchett · 28/11/2025 16:45

How scary. Glad you’ve reported.

BeserkingTuesday · 28/11/2025 16:45

` I remember someone made a throat-cutting gesture to one of my staff. I was surprised at the police response and questioned quite a senior one (Inspector/Superintendant) who'd arrived.
His response was that if someone says/implies that they have a weapon then it is treated as genuine until ascertained otherwise.
You, and your children, have been threatened with a firearm. ((( only possible response from you. It'll probably be sorted bedore midnight.

Allthegoodhorses · 28/11/2025 16:47

Dollymylove · 28/11/2025 14:49

Yes!! Definitely Police. This is why I always select post to a drop off point and not home address

Thanks for this. I had not realised you could do this.

BeserkingTuesday · 28/11/2025 16:48

Just seen message at 16:33. That doesn't sound a very good response. What Police Force. The one I referred to was the Met

Netcurtainnelly · 28/11/2025 16:44

How does a simple buying and selling app up like this?

I was thinking the same... I think it's because criminals will use anything like this to cheat and exploit people.

OvertimeSchmovertime · 28/11/2025 16:49

Glad the police are coming over. I’d call the station, and let them know you’ll be at a friend/parent’s house, and get there for the evening. Sell it as a fun sleepover for your kids. You need people around you and this guy sounds unhinged.

LakieLady · 28/11/2025 16:50

Glad the police seem to be taking this seriously. I'd like to see the look on the tosser's face if/when they rock up at his door.

MummyJ36 · 28/11/2025 16:50

That is absolutely awful, I’m so sorry OP. You are completely right to involve the police. This is shocking.

Allthegoodhorses · 28/11/2025 16:50

I just searched for that account on Vinted and can’t find it. So maybe the little turd has slunk off

MummyJ36 · 28/11/2025 16:51

Agree with other PP’s about staying somewhere else this eve or arranging a sleepover for your kids.

BillieWiper · 28/11/2025 16:55

Bayroot1 · 28/11/2025 16:32

Did you report them?

Not to the police no. Maybe I should have. My MD didn't feel the urge to do much about it. They tried to trace the call but couldn't.

It wasn't pleasant. But it was just an empty threat.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 28/11/2025 16:57

Reasonswhy · 28/11/2025 14:41

I don’t know who to call, it doesn’t feel 999 worthy but I’m scared

Call 101, not 111. The first is the police non emergency number, the second is the NHS. You can report to 101 online. It's probably just talk, but there are weirdos out there so report. This kind of behaviour just reinforces you're dealing with a fraudster.

Edited to say I've now seen your update. I'm glad the police are taking this seriously.

ResusciAnnie · 28/11/2025 16:59

Saying 'this isn't a theat' doesn't make a threat not a threat. What a numbskull. Sorry you're having to deal with this cunt OP!
