Is this a police job? Threatened by Vinted seller

I know I’m not, but posting for traffic as no idea what to do.
Item for Christmas arrived today and was clearly fake so applied for a refund via Vinted. I’ve had a series of threatening messages from the seller saying he needs the money, and he has my address so will come and find me. He included a photo of himself holding an air rifle. I’m not easily spooked but feel really scared now as he does have my address and seems very angry. I’ve filed a “help” through Vinted but they may not even read it for 48 hours. Do I call 111? On my own with 2 kids so feel really on edge.

Please don't tell me what to do or say, especially when my comments are in fact
much more likely to assuage the OP's fears regarding the idiot's likely ability to have access to a genuine firearm, when others are just tossing about remarks about "an AK47".....

From what have seen you are the only one making assumptions about the type or firearm. I’m merely requesting you don’t when you could make the OP feel even more scared and worried than she already is.

on hold to 101 again

Put the phone down andplease call 999 telling them about the new messages you have received and telling the police that he has your address (regardless of it being slightly different). No one can tell if it is a fake firearm or not by a photo. He is now being persistent with setting up a new profile to threaten you.

Sugargliderwombat · 29/11/2025 20:03

I am another person for 999. He has pretty much got your address and is following this up. It's different from the first threat.

OneBookTooMany · 29/11/2025 20:03

Do you have a local councillor's number? You can get it from your council webpage.

Ring as many of them as you need to. Tell them you have been repeatedly threatened with a firearm, the police are supposed to be coming but even though you phoned them yesterday, they are still not here.

Tell them that you are a woman on your own with small children and very frightened.

Not the same thing at all but I often have to contact press departments of councils and they are very lax. I usually ring a councillor and, more times than not, they give them a kick up the arse.

Could they do this with the police? I don't know but, right now, I'd try it.

Phone 999 now!

LuckySH · 29/11/2025 20:07

I took a snap shot of the image and put it in to Google. It sent me to a French website where someone was also threatened by a vinted seller. The article included this photo and it was from 2023.

Xmasxrackers · 29/11/2025 20:08

Another one for 999. OP if he’s that adamant that he’s set up a new account I would absolutely 999 it. Please stay safe xx

Oh gosh does it give a seller name or any info?

WildFlowerBees · 29/11/2025 20:10

You can call 999 it’s their decision if it’s a non emergency. Don’t worry about wasting their time call handlers know what they’re doing.

The whole article is in French, so I can't read it, but someone may be able to translate it. I got it to translate and read parts then clicked off it and don't know how to translate it back.

Bloody Hell! Just caught up with this thread after reading last night. That is a huge escalation to now be creating more accounts to threaten you with. Definitely contact the police again.

Do you have a ring doorbell or similar so you can be alerted if anyone does appear outside your house?

Hello,.what does reverse image searching means. Many thanks

It means doing a Google search but with a picture instead of words. It allows you to see where else an image has been posted / where it originates.

No there’s been an update

Not in Southampton, or Newcastle where the first account was listed to.

if even 101 weren’t at all bothered yesterday and initially said they’d come next week, and someone is meant to come here today so it’s open but not deemed urgent, I think 999 won’t be overly impressed with me calling them but I have no idea

They prefer you calling 999 than 101 when it’s an emergency!! This is an emergency as you are being threatened and your family is being threatened by a man with photos of a firearm!

Phelicity · 29/11/2025 20:23

The French article shows the same photo of a gun.
