Is this a police job? Threatened by Vinted seller

I know I’m not, but posting for traffic as no idea what to do.
Item for Christmas arrived today and was clearly fake so applied for a refund via Vinted. I’ve had a series of threatening messages from the seller saying he needs the money, and he has my address so will come and find me. He included a photo of himself holding an air rifle. I’m not easily spooked but feel really scared now as he does have my address and seems very angry. I’ve filed a “help” through Vinted but they may not even read it for 48 hours. Do I call 111? On my own with 2 kids so feel really on edge.

Not true.

Sorry, but you’re incorrect.
Yodel - definitely has the address on the tracking receipt.
Evri - address on parcel
InPost - can be seen on app if put in locker to be sent to an address rather than another locker

imnotsickbutimnotwell · 28/11/2025 17:28

Here’s an example I found of it happening before..if you google it there are a couple of Sun newspaper articles on the same thing.

Big lot of bluffing, I think. Depending on how much we're talking about here, I'd be inclined to just accept the £20 offer and move on.

Mumstheword1983 · 28/11/2025 17:30

Hi this is a Vinted scam. Have seen this shared before.

Mildorado · 28/11/2025 17:30

Oh dear god. That's awful, @imnotsickbutimnotwell

mummytrex · 28/11/2025 17:30

Glad you've reported to police OP.

I'm the most reluctant 999 caller you can imagine but even i would call 999 for this. He has a gun, your address and has threatened to come at night and threatened your kids. I wouldn't wait the two days it will take for the none emergency line or an online report to get back to you.

And has threatened to send his friends "the Blacks who are not scared of the police" as well. Just the photo of the gun was enough.

@Reasonswhy please hang up and call 999 immediately. This needs to be a priority as this creepy nutjob's threats are escalating.

These are only some of the messages, am really scared now

He doesn't have any 'black friends'.
Report this to the police.

Edited

May I ask - if you buy something to be put into an inpost locker upon delivery (and not to your address), will your address still be visible?

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 28/11/2025 17:50

Absolutely report this keyboard warrior. He’s banking on frightening you to get money from you. I can guarantee that he won’t follow through on any of his threats but he needs to be stopped.

BorgQueen · 28/11/2025 17:50

I’d have just responded with ‘crack on then, my Belgian Malinois ex special forces dog could do with a new chew toy’. Play him at his own daft game.

Thank you all so much, you are all so supportive. They are sending officers round at some point this evening, said they’ll try before midnight as I have young kids. I’ll update when they’ve been.

Bloody hell op, so sorry! What a nut job. Hope they come round soon. Can you ask a friend or relative to come stay?

Not that this will make you feel any better, but this is a known scam on Vinted. The scammers list fake goods at a weird amount with pence like yours.
Sometimes they send a leaflet instead of the goods, other times it's fake stuff.
They don't want the account closing, hence the empty threats.
Usually they aren't based in the UK, but have a 'warehouse' here that they ship the rubbish from.
I guarantee he's just trying what he can to get you to complete the order, and it's empty threats - allbeit a little scary.

Usually when there has been weird amounts, it has been because they have it listed in their local currency and the exchange rate makes it weird. So I wouldnt automatically be worried about the iffy numbers.

In not in UK and I just picked 2 packages and I can see the sellers address but they can only see my pick uo locker box address. But I feel like there should be a way to only see drop off and pick up place addresses. Not a fan of sharing my address every time I send something.

Looking at my app now, no.

Yourlifeinyourhands · 28/11/2025 17:54

Jesus this is awful.
It will probably just be a threat and nothing else but stay at someone else’s and let the police know. In future for everyone… collect from the lockers so they don’t know your address. People are crazy. So sorry for you.

KitsyWitsy · 28/11/2025 17:54

How unnerving. Almost certainly all hot air but I’d still be frightened a bit if it was happening to me.

Hoodlumboodlum · 28/11/2025 17:56

What an utter psycho. He won't do anything but he's clearly one cabbage short of an allotment to send messages like that. Glad the police are listening to you.

Terrytheweasel · 28/11/2025 17:57

It is a police matter but there is absolutely no way this guy is coming to find you with his ‘black mates’ so please try not to worry. Alert the police and rest assured these are all scare tactics.

Kirstk · 28/11/2025 17:58

I meant NOT BEING UNREASONABLE voted wrong

Terrytheweasel · 28/11/2025 17:59

Error

aster10 · 28/11/2025 17:59

Looking through my old sender labels I still have - they don’t show the buyer’s address if the buyer chose a drop off point (InPost and on Yodel).

Ohdearanotherone · 28/11/2025 18:07

oh my god this is awful. 💯 report to the police. I have bought this brand from Vinted before and it was also fake. I didn’t get this reaction though I just reported it as fake and I did get a refund and the seller was blocked. There are so many fake sellers around now. This is awful though x

Parsleysalad · 28/11/2025 18:08

I hope they take it seriously

aster10 · 28/11/2025 18:09

This is one of Sun articles - the Online Safety Bill referred to in there is now the law (the Online Safety Act). Do mention it to Vinted. I don’t think there were any reports in the press of such threats being carried out www.thesun.co.uk/money/24939044/vinted-online-safety-bill-shopping-abusive-messages-threats/#:~:text=“We've%20seen%20several%20users,abusive%20behaviour%20of%20any%20kind.

OneBookTooMany · 28/11/2025 18:15

This is probably some smelly teenager in his bedroom, acting out his fantasy of being a gangster but it is unnerving and upsetting and I would be both,

Hopefully, he will get his collar felt and he will be a lot more upset than you are.

I have Vinted parcels sent to my local post office and my home address is never on the label-just the Post Office address. In fact, when I want to track the package, I have to enter the Post Office postcode, not mine.

This will all be over soon and I'm sending you good wishes.
