AIBU to think this is absolutely outrageous.

Why are you surprised? She probably doesn’t know she’s done this. After all, shes not known as incompetent for nothing.

Dreamtitchy · 27/11/2025 16:12

Those figures aren’t accurate

Kuretake · 27/11/2025 16:12

Sounds like bullshit tbh

Dreamtitchy · 27/11/2025 16:13

On the AVD 1 April 2021, pubs were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. This meant most pubs were given much lower rateable values in the 2023 revaluation than they otherwise would have received. Increases in rateable values in the 2026 revaluation reflect the increase in pubs’ trade since 2021.

Lazyusername · 27/11/2025 16:14

Haha - Labour supporters out in force. And in denial.

So Lara's pub has now suddenly been revalued from £18,000 to £73,500. Correct?

Indeed! And on every thread about the budget and the catastrophic mess it is! If only so much work had been put into actually working on it!

What do you think Rachel should have done differently to prevent this woman's situation then?

The total increase is 65.9%

hefty, yes

but not 18k-73500k hefty! 🤭

Lazyusername · 27/11/2025 16:17

And Leon's has been revalued from £22,000 to £73,000. Correct? As well as all other small business premises. Shops, pubs, bars. Adding thousands to everyone's costs. Correct?

So you think that's ok and you're sniggering. I know full well how the amount payable is calculated and nobody said they would pay the revaluation in total. But they will pay thousand of pounds more.

I think an increase of 69.5% given the the relief in rates due to Covid is tough but had to be done

I think daft x posts grossly exaggerating the figures does fuck all

Yup
thousands have been added
it’s In line with precisely what the figure would have been if rates had not increased so paltry or not at all during Covid years

Kuretake · 27/11/2025 16:16

What do you think Rachel should have done differently to prevent this woman's situation then?

Not suddenly revalued the premises of every small business causing massive hikes in outgoings at a time when traders are already paying higher wages, rents, electric, gas, water rates and stock costs?

I didn't exaggerate. I simply posted a link to some facts. If you misinterpreted them that's your fault.

So rateable values have quadrupled since 2020?

Ha ha Tory supporters starting threads...again... that aren't accurate, what a surprise!

Rateable value, is not the same as rates bill going up, plus there are reliefs for hospitality, designed to give a lower bill than previously was the case.

Valuations take place every 3 years, subject to the pandemic.

I’ve just looked up my local pub’s and it’s gone down (the pub is flourishing in recent years). So this isn’t universal.

Lazyusername · 27/11/2025 16:29

The simple fact is that small businesses will as of April 2026 pay thousands more in business rates. Spin it however you like.
I am not a Tory. I'm not surprised that you are.

Maybe not but have you read the thread I posted and the many people this has affected.
Checked my own business premises and yes it has gone up. Why are people attempting to pretend this is not an increase in costs for many small businesses when it is?
