Haha - Labour supporters out in force. And in denial.

Denial? It seems that it is the Conservative supporters who are in denial about the damage that 14 years of Conservative government caused - damage that will cost a fortune to repair. But yeh, all of the UK's problems are down to the actions of a government that has only been in place for 17 months.

To be fair to the Conservatives, the last government was probably the most successful in modern history - if you are a Conservative supporter or donor. The wealthy got wealthier and the poor were convinced that their dire situation was all down to a few thousand men in rubber dinghies. Low taxation, vital services and utilities put into the hands of private companies with little oversight, underinvestment in the remaining public services leaving them in a state of collapse, the housing market left to the developers to exploit, Brexit sold on on the basis of lies and misrepresentation .... and then they bugger off, with their peerages and directorships, leaving the next government to attempt to clear up the mess while all the time lobbing grenades at them.

Reeves could have said anything at all yesterday as the headlines were already written by the Conservatives' media ready for publication - "Reeves Budget Disaster Costs [insert random minority group here] an Unaffordable [insert made-up amount here]", "Reeves Hammers Taxpayers and Hands [insert amount here] to Undeserving [insert random group here]" and so on.

No.

But not sure of relevance of that to whether X post is accurate.

It's relevant to the accuracy of the X post if you have experience of running a business or have ever tried to get one off the ground. Because if you have owned a business in the past, you'll know fully well how tough it is, how much overhead there is and how expensive and risky it is.

Most don't or have never and they tend to come out of the woodwork to claim a business owner is crying foul for clout.

I agree with much of what you have said. But how is forcing all of our small businesses to close down going to help?

Come off it. Labour and Tories are two cheeks of the same arse. They're a uniparty. One causes damage slowly over time, the other accomplishes it much faster, in Starmer's case less than a year. The colour of the rosette is all people seem to care about and it's tiresome. Blue bad, red good. It's the reverse in the USA; red good, blue bad. It's childish in the extreme.

None of your business.

Enough said

it’s gone up only slightly

😆

Bambamhoohoo · 27/11/2025 17:03

dont forget though, this is the normal course of business. The valuation and multipliers are very well established formula.

they will be high in 2026. You could argue that RR could’ve provided relief or subsidy. But she didn’t decide this would happen in her budget. It’s been coming for years.

Rachel is a puppet. I saw her on TV trying to explain Pay Per Mile. She hasn't got a damn clue what she's on about.

What’s that got to do with anything? She still didn’t establish the valuation office multiplier

my country pub in rural east yorkshire 2024/25 business rates payable = £8360 (75% relief) 2025/26 business rates payable = £20060 (40% relief) 2026/27 business rates payable = £47300 (new valuation) a 500% increase in three years, whats the fucking point in even trying

Because people's finances are literally none of anyone's business. Anyone who pries like that is possibly in favour of digital ID "If you've got nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about."

It tells you that I am not sharing my personal information online.
And am I not allowed to care about other people?
I can see that you clearly don't and it's all a source of merriment for you when other people have just discovered they are going to lose their livelihood.

Telling us the percentage increase in rates when you start a thread bemoaning the rate increase - is a fairly reasonable question

and the coyness about answering is an answer really

That’s not really how business works. You pass it on if your price point allows. Most businesses can’t just put up their price in conjunction with cost increases, because customers won’t pay more.

generally, they’ll have to take a hit to profit or reduce cost elsewhere

To be fair the fact that’s it’s a revaluation year and the multiplier aren’t secret. It could well be that the OPs increase is high. As I said above the average I have is 25% increase

mamagogo1 · 27/11/2025 17:09

Has anyone seen reports of councils near bankrupt? Have you read threads on older people not getting care their need, young people not getting transport to school they need, insufficient special needs places? How about pot holes, hospital waiting lists? Facilities for young people … list goes on y et nobody wants to pay for it. Pubs were given a discount due to the pandemic, that has now ended.

im not defending specific policies but people are crying out for services yet nobody wants to pay

I know you are trying every which way to pretend small businesses haven't just received news of huge increases in their rates valuations but I'm afraid they have.

So why do you think anything you say on the matter is relevant? If you don't believe the hospitality industry is on it's arse, you're either very rich and can afford higher costs or you're happy that part of the private sector is being crushed out of existence.

You can try being honest and say you want to not talk about how Rachel is a puppet and how having such an incompetent individual in charge of the country's finances is nothing short of insane and stupid.

If you'd rather not, then don't beat around the bush and admit you don't care about or approve of the damage she's done.
