Maybe not but have you read the thread I posted and the many people this has affected.
Checked my own business premises and yes it has gone up. Why are people attempting to pretend this is not an increase in costs for many small businesses when it is?

Well yes yours has gone up

and it didn’t go up or only very very marginally for years during Covid

Southernecho · 27/11/2025 16:33

Lazyusername · 27/11/2025 16:29

The simple fact is that small businesses will as of April 2026 pay thousands more in business rates. Spin it however you like.
I am not a Tory. I'm not surprised that you are.

For the 2025-2026 tax year, many small businesses, particularly in the retail, hospitality, and leisure (RHL) sectors, will see their business rates relief reduced, which could lead to higher bills. However, from April 2026, new reforms aim to introduce permanently lower multipliers for most small businesses, funded by higher rates for very large properties

Its a great pity, Sunak didn't set aside monies for businesses for when rates went back to normal.

Or that businesses didn’t set aside money knowing rates would eventually increase sharply

So you feel that the fact that small traders rateable values have been assessed to have quadrupled over five years is all fine and dandy?

This is hilarious, you start a thread about massive increases in business rates but never checked your Business rates first?

What business are you in?

What is your source for an increase of 400% across the board?

But yes…. A hefty increase was due

and delivered

You are talking about business rates relief. The thread I posted is about business rates revaluations.

People are in denial without explaining their denial.

  • Most don't like pubs. They're seen as a social hub for the 'far-right' who are usually English men (and women) who congregate there over a few pints to discuss the ills of the world, which then leads to movements forming, ie EDL. Can't be having dissent, can we?
  • Many hate the fact a private sector exists and they want every service provisioned by the private sector to be handed over to the state and nationalised.

I'm willing to be corrected. But after so many years being confused about the hatred of private enterprise, my brain has started to fill in the blanks.

RendeersDancingTowardsChristmas · 27/11/2025 16:52

No business owner likes an increase in business rates.

Only time will tell if it was a good or bad financial decision.

Bromptotoo · 27/11/2025 16:53

Need to understand the actual facts.

A short post on Twitter/X doesn't help.

my country pub in rural east yorkshire 2024/25 business rates payable = £8360 (75% relief) 2025/26 business rates payable = £20060 (40% relief) 2026/27 business rates payable = £47300 (new valuation) a 500% increase in three years, whats the fucking point in even trying

Have you ever run a business or tried to get one off the ground?

Bambamhoohoo · 27/11/2025 16:56

2026 is a revaluation year. Business rates are revalued every 3 years subject to a multiplier.

i think what you’re referring to is it not being done or frozen during Covid.

yes Op business rates will increase massively this year. Average prediction (depending on type of estate and location, this is information I get for a national forecasting) is 25%.

the pub isn’t massively relevant to be honest, everything is hit. There is often transitional relief for small businesses butt t as yet it’s not been offered.

large businesses are being hit much heavier than small ones; there is an extra levy for property >£500k.

Bromptotoo · 27/11/2025 16:56

YorkshireGoldDrinker · 27/11/2025 16:55

No.

But not sure of relevance of that to whether X post is accurate.

Public sector still pays business rates though

business rates are for commercial pressies and in no way unique to pubs, I don’t think the fact the x poster owns a pub is relevant really.
