AIBU that now is the time for us to get behind Kemi?

Rachel Reeves has broken her promise that new taxes would not be levied on working people. She hasn’t followed through with her promise to prioritise growth. She failed to deliver welfare reform. It is clear that the current government is now led by the newly elected backbenchers. Labour are punishing those of us who work and save, taxing our pensions and making life more expensive for working families. She is making it more difficult for employers to hire staff and graduates in particular are suffering from a lack of opportunity due to her policies.

Keir Starmer failed to get any support for welfare reform from his backbenchers and is coasting politically.

Both Rachel and Keir have shown that political survival means more to them than delivering a budget that grows the economy and helps those of us who work hard and aspire for more. I feel that they hate people like me and my family- we are professionals on two good wages with children, not rich, middle class, trying to improve our lives, prepare for our futures while trying to pay the bills. There is literally nothing in this budget which would help people like me, only punishment (or a ‘contribution’ as Rachel Reeves described it in her budget speech).

Yes, the tories screwed up massively under Boris and Truss. But everything that Kemi is saying about the autumn budget is spot on. Kemi also stood up for women at a time when Labour was gaslighting women across the country in relation to trans issues.

The conservatives have a huge amount of work to do to rebuild trust and develop their policies. But if they don’t gain public support we are risking the chaos of a Reform government. AIBU to say that now is the time to get behind Kemi?

Why is nobody talking about the lib dems as an alternative? I was always a Labour voter but went lib dem at the last election. I don't think they get enough airtime and that could be their problem.

The Conservatives got us in this mess and Kemi Badenoch isn't the answer, or even worse Reform. I'll stick with Labour thanks.

You’re in a shrinking pool so I wouldn’t rely on laughing emojis too much. Labour and Starmer are pretty much despised.

Unfortunately as we’ve seen Reform won’t disappear and the Tories are just trying to be Reform mark 2 with Kemi at the helm. It’s sad to watch. I suppose we should be glad we’re not being inflicted with the Bullingdon Club grabbing the headlines for a few years but frankly being subjected to Kemi’s endless nasty empty vitriol is more than tedious.

Its Labour trying to out-Reform Reform, not the tories.

Reread your previous reply to me, I thought it was nonsense to 😄

Still don't know what you're on about. Oh well.

Fangisnotacoward · 28/11/2025 20:11

Absolutely no chance. Im not impressed with labour. But the Tories had 14 years to improve lives/stop the boats/reform welfare/curb immigration/change taxes or whatever Kemi might be complaining that Labour arent doing well enough at.

I mean labour hardly inherited a glowing land of milk and honey which they have resounding trashed since they've been on power.

Its been a shitshow for years, the majority of which Kemi's party were in power.

Many natural Libdem voters are put off by their stance on women’s rights and refusal to accept that single sex spaces and the survival of women’s sport matter.

FFS, all these threads demonising Labour and the Tory press going for the jugular. Has this government been a disappointment, yes to an extent. Did they inherit an absolute shit show of 15 years mismagememt- totally. The last government destroyed the fabric of the country with austerity, pissed money away on paying their mates for things and privitised via the back door. So now your council tax is paying for one looked after child (easily 10 grand a month and all LA's fighting for it) so lots of LA money being spent there. There is so much money to be made from our most vulnerable children, there is lots of investment from overseas.

My favourite Green idea for combatting traffic congestion in Brighton was to let sheep roam free on the roads during rush hour because that would force drivers to slow down. Fucking genius 🤗

At least they’d eat the weeds. The council now have a policy of just letting weeds grow out the pavements - it sometimes looks like the set of the Last of Us.

Tuls3y · 28/11/2025 19:36

The Tories will not regain power with her in charge. She’s no better than Reform and the UK doesn’t need two nasty parties.

I think this is true but personally I think that one reason for the rise of Reform is that the racists can’t bring themselves to support a black woman - however rightwing and nasty she is. So they’ve deserted the Tories.

I’d be prepared to bet that if the Tories were led by a white man the Reform problem would all but disappear.

On of those making money from vulnerable children is Labour MP Jas Athwal.
He also rents out mould infested properties.

Just to add, was the last government held up to the same standards and scrutiny? Absolutely not and we ended up the the abhorrent show during covid- and that is ignoring the decisions and choices made which has screwed the UK financially. Cameron's austerity was totally flawed and thay led us to his vanity project which was the Brexit referendum. People voted to leave because they felt poorer, and since then as a country we have been fucked financially. Luckily, I come from a family of immigrants that the UK now hate so can claim my EU passport. I always thought the UK was quite tolerant but I am having to rethink this.

Do you think they are doing well? What are you looking at to even see that. BlueSky? Not even the Guardian back them anymore.

willstarttomorrow · 28/11/2025 20:58

@TheNuthatch very quick there. Now list all the Tory MPs who make money from public services- just to keep it balanced. Start with looked after children then maybe care homes, private health care settings that take nhs patients etc and then providers for other services, for example Michelle Mone, who helped out the nhs during covid....

I'm sure you can do your own research, with evidence of course. Are there some tory MPs who own slum properties and failing children's homes?

Michelle Mone is not a tory MP btw. She never was, and the tories themselves began the investigation into her wrong doing. Not sure what that has to do with Jas Athwal, the slum landlord with a failing children's home.

The massive global financial crises was what necessitated austerity not that it particularly was.

That still doesn’t mean Labour are doing well. I’m wondering why you’re convinced they are. As said The Guardian don’t even back them anymore.

I’m not sure why you’re still in emoji laughing stage when it’s clear they’re really struggling. Although now you’re at aggro stage.
