Was I in the wrong to push in the queue ?

crisikrinkles · 26/11/2025 10:00

Went into the post office in our town.
It’s always packed and they had two serving.
I needed currency and places never normally have it without ordering.
I needed it that day as we were travelling at night (last minute I know )
There was probably 20 people in front of me.
I didn’t want to wait in the queue incase I stood there and they didn’t have it anyway.
So I went to a counter and just said “before I queue can I just check you have this currency “
A woman barked “there’s a queue !”
I explained I wasn’t pushing in,I was just checking they had something before I got to the back of the queue.
She shouted “ no you wait to ask questions “

was i in the wrong ?

Just imagine how irate the OP would be if the cashier had said, yes, we have Euros, so she waited and when she got to the front of the queue, the cashier checked and found they had none left as the other cashier had sold them, or they'd been allocated to an online order, or a customer in front had taken what they had left!!

But what has that got to do with the OP? Nothing.

Yes, you were unreasonable. Everyone in the queue was waiting to ask their question. Your problem was not more important than theirs.

Nonsense! Nobody is normally waiting in the queue just to ask the question. She was absolutely right not to wait. She explained she wanted to ask something only. World would be much a nicer place with more patient and compassionate people in it.

You should of just waited. You was rude.

⬆️ classy 😮‍💨

Thevalueofeverythingandthecostofnothing · 28/11/2025 15:57

Why consider the person at the head of the queue as being any different to all the other people in the queue? If you make the person at the head of the queue wait while you ask your ‘quick’ question then all the other people in the queue are also delayed by the same amount of time as the first person in the queue…a sort of knock-on effect.
Yes, you were rude and disrespectful.

velocity123 · 28/11/2025 16:24

I wouldn’t care

Tuesdayschild50 · 28/11/2025 18:19

I'd of done the same before waiting for nothing ... I'd of said sorry not pushing in just checking they have currency ..
Wouldn't care if someone said that to me .. only asking a question .

tobyds · 29/11/2025 03:11

OMG I've no words to describe you at all 😡?

How about sensible, practical, reasonable?

Debzyrobinson · 29/11/2025 10:18

I don't think you was being unreasonable.
I remember I was in the supermarket I only had 2 items and infront of me was a lady with a big trolley, I said do you mind if I go in front of you,she was very rude, and one off the other Customers said come on she only got two items, and then she let me in if it wasn't for the other customers, she probably wouldn't have let me in.The world has really changed ,everyone in a rush. Some times we all need a little Patience.

I would’ve asked the person at the front of the queue whether I could ask a quick question before I joined the queue.

Came to say this!

SocksandGloves · 29/11/2025 19:33

Surprised the poll is 50/50
If you just wanted to check, think that is reasonable. It is not a discussion, just 5 second question and binary Yes or No response.

Surprised so many people find it rude. Weird to think you have to join a queue to find out if you should be in the queue.

Missey85 · 26/11/2025 10:22

You should have waited like everyone else why is your time more valuable than theirs? 🙁 I don't care if it was a quick question you still made others wait longer because apparently your more important than they are

It wouldn't have bothered me in the slightest as I understand it would've saved her a potentially 20 minute wait. I have thr heart to spare someone 20 seconds of my time...

Rubbish. The level of inpatience people have is incredibly shocking to me. I would happily spare someone 15 seconds of my time to ask a question if it means they don't have a wasted 20 minute wait. It's called kindness, understanding and compassion.....and being chilled out about small things......

Zov · 29/11/2025 20:24

You do you @EvieBB

No-one is cutting in front of me.

I am not KIND

I am not COMPASSIONATE

I am not UNDERSTANDING.

I am not CHILLED OUT.

Not when some cheeky fecker thinks they are so important that they can queue jump to 'ask a quick question.'

I know this won't fit your idea of women being KIND! But we're not all a pushover hun. 😎

The irony of you telling people to be KIND, and COMPASSIONATE, and then having a pop at someone's spelling and grammar.

You couldn't make it up! 😖

Namechange234567 · 26/11/2025 10:15

If I was waiting in the queue and someone asked that question I'd have been happy. They should be able to let you know without breaking from what they're doing.

If they couldn't they could ask you to join the queue politely by saying 'really sorry I don't know off the top of my head, if you can join the queue I can look into it for you'.

This

I think it’s rude to start shouting at someone like this. Sounds like they’ve had a bad day made worse by a long queue.

Seems reasonable to me, no point you queueing if they didn’t have the currency. However if the person couldn’t answer there and then you could just say that’s fine, I’ll queue then. It would have been wrong if they’d gone to find out or taken time looking on the computer for you etc.

Tanjamaltija · 29/11/2025 20:55

You could have jumped the queue by calling them.

user1484264563 · 29/11/2025 21:21

AllPlayedOut · 26/11/2025 10:26

How did she jump the queue? She asked a very quick question. She was going to join the queue afterwards if they did have the currency that she needed. She wasn’t expecting to get her money immediately.

It wasn't a 'quick question' the person she asked would have to stop what they were doing and go and check the safe, umpteen different currencies aren't just lying on their counters, what a ridiculous assumption.

Laveritas · 29/11/2025 21:40

What if a bus of 50 people turned up and wanted to each push in and ask the same ‘quick question’? Would that be fair on the people already in the queue? I don’t think so. On that basis, I consider what you did rude.

esem · 29/11/2025 22:08

oh dear oh dear.........where did you go to school ?

MyObservations · 30/11/2025 07:32

TangoWhiskeyAlphaTango1 · 26/11/2025 10:12

If I was at the front I would not have minded you asking this question. Some folk have little kindness these days. It’s all about me me me!

But, it seems to me, that's precisely what OP was doing, thinking about herself only.

ChristmasTimeChristmasJoy · 26/11/2025 10:09

You should of just waited. You was rude.

'Should have ....' and: 'You were ...'
Who on earth says: 'You was ...?'

Mcoco · 30/11/2025 09:17

I still can't believe some posters find this rude! To ask a quick question rather than waste time queuing. How can that be rude?

Hopefully OP you are lying on a beach somewhere forgetting all about this!
