The original Dutch film ‘The Vanishing’ (Spoorloos). The end still sticks in mind. Unfortunately Hollywood got hold of it and added an extra 30 mins to make the ending ‘nicer’ and totally spoilt the impact of the original ending.

I came on here to say the same as @AgapanthusPink. I mean, I wish I’d never seen that film because it sometimes still keeps me awake even though I only saw it once 28 years ago. But there is no ending like it; the whole film is a build up to it.
