Shitty note from new Neighbours after moving in

Laylamum2 · 25/11/2025 18:19

We moved house on Friday - have had a hectic few days trying to sort things and have this week off work thankfully.

There is one bathroom in the house and this is upstairs at the front of the house which faces our driveway. Next to the driveway is a neighbours house directly opposite.

The seller has taken all blinds out of the property as is their right and we’ve spent today putting some new ones up, including in the bathroom.

Yesterday, a note got put through our door:

”Get blinds for your bathroom, we don’t want to see you having a shit”

The window is frosted but I assume at night with the light on you can see in.

This was obviously from our neighbours opposite. AIBU to say they went about this in a rude way? They could have sent a politer note or knocked on the door.

How rude!!!! People can be vile and theres no need for it
We had new windows put in and had the bathroom widow frosted , i assumed it was frosted so no one could see in how wrong was i , at night with the light on the neighbours could see everything so i assume yours were the same
Doesnt make for a good first experience of them does it
Ignore it now theres blinds up and ignore them too

Pog166 · 25/11/2025 20:48

Dangerous to assume it was the neighbour. Quite possibly someone out to make trouble for them or an unconnected passer-by who didn't actually see anything except the absence of blinds.

Notashamed13 · 25/11/2025 20:49

I can feel a giant printed turd emoji coming on....outward facing on the frosted window of course💩

RescueMeFromThisSilliness · 25/11/2025 20:50

If ever there was a time for buying a 10 inch cactus shaped like a willy and keeping it on your bathroom windowsill, this is it.

mistyeveningponder · 25/11/2025 20:50

Ah, but this is the perfect opportunity to have some fun. Get a cardboard cut out and put it directly in the window in a funny position (just like in home alone) and then leave the light on and go to bed. 🤪

I’d post a letter back to them in an envelope addressed to the homeowner (with their note) stating that you suspect this rude note is written by a teenager or child so you wanted to make them aware. Most adults wouldn’t be so unwelcoming and rude to their new neighbours so you wanted to let them know. You can then mention that you were in the process of putting up new blinds as the previous owner had taken them so apologies if they saw any unwanted shapes through the frosted glass.

This way if it was a silly teenager the adults would be mortified and likely apologise to you for the note when they see you. If not then they are clearly dicks and you will know they are dicks so you can just ignore them.

Hahaha this is perfect!!!!! Love it

That's a character from a Spanish nativity scene. I think he's there to show how lowly and humble the stable was.

That may be where they originated as a concept. However, the image I added is a fridge magnet version from the website I failed to properly link. There are loads of them and having been to the store, it is far beyond just being a nativity thing.

Requesting blinds so they can't see you doing a shit seems pretty reasonable. It could be worse they could thanked you the show and encouraged you not to get blinds so they can keep watching.

Not sure I would look to try and fall out with neighbours over it.

fishfingerbutty · 25/11/2025 20:53

Agree with PPs who said just ignore completely.
Don’t give them the oxygen of your attention.

mummybear2104 · 25/11/2025 20:56

Was it definitely the neighbour could it just be someone else messing around who has walked past?

Please don't think I'm being intrusive op but I noticed you mentioned the bathroom light was on and therefore your husband was passing motion at night? Is his fibre levels ok? usually going to the bathroom later in the day is not as good routine as going in the morning.

Honestly i dont think anyone cares when they shit as long as they shit 🤣 the big problem is when you dont shit for days then theres a problem

Say nothing, but get a window sticker of a shitting Santa for the bathroom window.

I'd do this too 😂😂

The fact they put an anonymous note through the door instead of knocking and maybe saying “ I don’t know if you are aware but you can see in your window when you are in the bathroom , I thought I would let you know to save you embarrassment “ shows the type of people they are. Ignore them.

Haha best idea 🤣

GrandmasCat · 25/11/2025 21:09

We had something like that, a nasty neighbour joking that she was celebrating hat we had got blinds. We had frosted glass, which thought it was ok but it kind of wasn’t, you could still see us “blob version” no definition so we were half annoyed/half grateful some one had the nerve to let us know.

PorridgeAndSyrup · 25/11/2025 21:16

My sympathies... it doesn't sound like they are very nice people...

We had a similar situation where one of our windows directly looked into our neighbours' bathroom, and they did not have blinds for a brief while when decorating, meaning at night we could see the silhouettes of them showering and sitting on the toilet through the frosted glass. We did the decent thing and looked away. It's not hard.

You could wipe your shitey bum on the note and pop it back through their letterbox?

My DH had a stroke 3 weeks ago and I've been under so much stress, but this comment has made me laugh! Thanks!

Aw you’re very welcome my friend. Hope DH makes a full recovery ❤️‍🩹

Every cloud has a silver lining. At least now you know that one of your neighbours is a bell end and a trouble maker. They are also a sneak and a coward. In your place I would keep my cards close to my chest and do nothing. Continue to use your bathroom as normal and see what happens,

A neighbour once left a note on my gate when I turned down her request to do something. She asked me to think it over and let her know. It was put back through her door in one of those old fashioned envelopes with a black border. The Victorians used them for mourning. The note was ripped into small pieces. I guess she got the message because they never knocked at my door again.

I am well known on here for hating neighbours and avoiding them whenever possible.

Creamcakeries · 25/11/2025 21:23

The posted glass doesn't always help. Our neighbours have frosted glass in their downstairs bathroom and we can see what they're doing even during the daytime and the toilet is by the window. We don't want to see it but it's gone on too long now to say anything. I just look away.

The note from neighbour in that way was unnecessary though. They could've written it in a more considered just to let you sort of way. The fact that they posted a note rather than speaking directly to you shows you that thye probably won't confront you directly with anything so don't let it get to you.Enjoy your new home.

nomoremsniceperson · 25/11/2025 21:26

Not just rude but a completely bonkers note to write. Ask your other neighbours and see if they've had similar experiences.

newnamehereonceagain · 25/11/2025 21:30

Oh dear. We had new neighbours and the man didn’t realise we could see into his bathroom. I decided I should casually ask them to let us know about OUR bathroom, as ‘it would be so mortifying for us if they could see into it’. Oh no, it’s absolutely fine, they said with a happy smile. You needn’t worry.

I was then stumped for a few months.

WonderingWanda · 25/11/2025 21:35

Well they soundreally thick and unbelievably rude. Who greets their new neighbours like that? In fact who would complain to neighbours about what they can see through a frosted window?

shuggles · 25/11/2025 21:36

All of the people saying to ignore the letter are missing the fact that the neighbours will still be able to see OP shitting...
