Shitty note from new Neighbours after moving in

Laylamum2 · 25/11/2025 18:19

We moved house on Friday - have had a hectic few days trying to sort things and have this week off work thankfully.

There is one bathroom in the house and this is upstairs at the front of the house which faces our driveway. Next to the driveway is a neighbours house directly opposite.

The seller has taken all blinds out of the property as is their right and we’ve spent today putting some new ones up, including in the bathroom.

Yesterday, a note got put through our door:

”Get blinds for your bathroom, we don’t want to see you having a shit”

The window is frosted but I assume at night with the light on you can see in.

This was obviously from our neighbours opposite. AIBU to say they went about this in a rude way? They could have sent a politer note or knocked on the door.

YABU
I'd suppose you wanted to know.
And I'd see a short informal note as much easier for both parties than talking face to face about this.

Yes, the wording might be a bit better, but the message was there- the frosted glass isn't enough.
They had no way of knowing you were planning the blinds for the next day.

You are the neighbour aren’t you….? 😂

AlexisP90 · 25/11/2025 20:00

Ergh total assholes.

Ignore and if youre feeling particularly petty and vindictive take down all blinds you've just put up (downside they may see you on the toilet but im probably petty enough to do that...)

WinterHangingBasket · 25/11/2025 20:01

Or even just a giant 💩 emoji sticker.
Available from eBay in a range of sizes to suit the window and visibility from neighbour's distance.

LemaxObsessive · 25/11/2025 20:02

Please, please. Do the flashing Xmas lights thing in the bathroom 🙏 If you don’t, they’ll continue with the ‘anonymous’ notes for every single tiny thing you do/don’t do which annoys them even slightly.

Someone with appropriate IT skills would very quickly be able to scale this into a window sized image, laminate and attach to the window. Hopefully image makes it through the filters. 🤦🏻‍♀️

That's a character from a Spanish nativity scene. I think he's there to show how lowly and humble the stable was.

Maybe now you know why the previous owners moved house! 😢

Completely ignore them, it’ll drive them nuts.

And don't be in a hurry to replace the blind!

itsmeafterall · 25/11/2025 20:13

I'd wipe my bum with the note the next time I was having a shit 😂

Loloj · 25/11/2025 20:14

I’d post a letter back to them in an envelope addressed to the homeowner (with their note) stating that you suspect this rude note is written by a teenager or child so you wanted to make them aware. Most adults wouldn’t be so unwelcoming and rude to their new neighbours so you wanted to let them know. You can then mention that you were in the process of putting up new blinds as the previous owner had taken them so apologies if they saw any unwanted shapes through the frosted glass.

This way if it was a silly teenager the adults would be mortified and likely apologise to you for the note when they see you. If not then they are clearly dicks and you will know they are dicks so you can just ignore them.

Catiette · 25/11/2025 18:28

I'd said to maybe bear in mind that this could have been kids messing around (also unacceptable - but it'd be mortifying to get it that wrong about the neighbours before you even meet!) I bet when you do eventually meet the neighbours you'll instantly have a strong feeling for it it was them or not.

This is true.
It could have been written by a silly teenager.

Anonymous notes are only written by nutters, and thus go straight in the bin. Dont give it another thought.

I agree.

They were insensitive - and downright rude!

opencecilgee · 25/11/2025 20:19

They sound classy!

Only shit with the windows open and make inappropriate grunts, like you're trying to pass a melon

Totally this, 😂😂

stichguru · 25/11/2025 20:20

To be honest I found the note quite funny! I think they were being quite light hearted. I wouldn't want the neighbours to see me going to the toilet, so I'd be pleased that they had let me know that they could without blinds. As the "see-ers" though, I'd be worried that something more formal like "please get some good blinds for your bathroom, as currently we can see you sitting on the lavatory" might make the new neighbours feel that I thought they were trying to show me! I think their wording is quite good for "we know you don't mean any harm, but we think it's only fair we let you know we can see you, because it's probably a rather embarrassing situation for all of us."

Ionlymakejokestodistractmyself · 25/11/2025 20:22

Have loud sex out the bathroom window

2021x · 25/11/2025 20:24

Put a blind up that has a big picture of a turd on it everytime you put down for privacy

CalmShaker · 25/11/2025 20:25

Please don't think I'm being intrusive op but I noticed you mentioned the bathroom light was on and therefore your husband was passing motion at night? Is his fibre levels ok? usually going to the bathroom later in the day is not as good routine as going in the morning.

ChattyGeePeaTea · 25/11/2025 18:24

Say nothing, but get a window sticker of a shitting Santa for the bathroom window.

Definitely

ticktickticktickBOOM · 25/11/2025 20:28

That note is so hilarious as a moving in 'welcome' that I think I'd frame in 'home sweet home' type frame and put it up in said bathroom

TrippingOverMyAssets · 25/11/2025 20:32

Well obviously you wipe your bum on the note then stick it through their door.

StewkeyBlue · 25/11/2025 20:34

Not necessarily the neighbours opposite.

Could have been passing teens, or cranking kids?

I would go and knock opposite, introduce yourselves , show them the note, be friendly and say “did you see who put this through our door? We’re worried we’ve caused a scandal, and it’s a bit unnerving to get such a note’ and see what they say.

If it’s them: call their bluff.
If it wasn’t them: a shame to live with suspicion and hostility

RescueMeFromThisSilliness · 25/11/2025 20:36

IaltagDhubh · 25/11/2025 18:26

Cut out big letters and stick them on the window so that when you turn the light on in the bathroom it reads from outside “STOP WATCHING US SHIT YOU WIERDOS”. Would give you a little privacy until you are able to get around to fitting blinds too.

😂😂😂

I've been feeling ill all day and this has just given me the best laugh!

ScreamingBeans · 25/11/2025 20:41

LOL at shitty note.

Saw what you did there

PodMom · 25/11/2025 20:42

You need to put this in your window
