To have a kettle in the bedroom?

Teaandcakepleasee · 23/11/2025 20:00

I have, as of today, fulfilled my lifelong dream… I have a kettle in my bedroom! It has always been a dream of mine to purchase a teasmaid but they are hard to find and expensive. So I’ve bought a bright pink kettle, Lakeland milk sachets, coffee sachets, tea bags and now all I need is some biscuits 🍪

I am so excited to wake up tomorrow morning 🤣 I am also recently separated and doing whatever I damn well please 🤣 Life has been shite lately so I am seeking out a little joy where I can find it 💕

Have I finally lost the plot or am I a genius?! 🤣

Enjoy it, OP! My grandparents had separate bedrooms, and my grandmother made the most of it, with a brew before bed, and one for when she got up in the morning!

Strawberries86 · 23/11/2025 20:08

Sounds lovely op. Enjoy your first bedroom brew. I only hope it’s Yorkshire tea?

CalmShaker · 23/11/2025 20:09

As soon as I read the topic I thought Teasmaid :) I'm forever going down into kitchen and bringing a cuppa up but I like the thought of it (kettle in room). Will it not be faff getting the water up there though and restocking of biscuits?

YANBU re the kettle but YABVU re those horrid little UHT sachets.

ThisCanHappen · 23/11/2025 20:11

We used to have a teasmaid in the 1980s. I loved it. You've made me want one again, but I don't really need one as DH always makes me tea in the morning. Enjoy your kettle!

3hairspastfreckle · 23/11/2025 20:11

I'd add a mini fridge and proper milk! Sounds like bliss

TheChosenTwo · 23/11/2025 20:13

Friends of mine have a Teasmaid they were bought as a wedding present almost 40 years ago and use it every morning. Although one of them still nips down and gets a little pot of milk in the morning which seems to defeat the object to me?!
anyway I hate hot drinks and don’t have tea or coffee of any kind, but if you’re enjoying your cuppa in bed then it’s not in any way unreasonable! Only thing I couldn’t be on board with is crumbs in bed from eating biscuits but since it’s your bed and you’re the one eating the biscuits I guess you’re fine about it. Crack on op.

I don’t think the Lakeland ones are as bad as UHT.

Well done! I have a kettle in my bedroom. Every morning I switch it on then have camomile tea and rich tea biscuits in bed. No need for milk.
we used to have a teasmaid but the clock gave on it was so bright it illuminated the whole room, and it took ages to boil and was so noisy.
Kettle is perfect.

I’ve had them before and they are not too bad. Any recommendations of decent long life milk?

That sounds blissful! 🫖 I also plan to go back to bed with a cuppa and a book after the school run 📖

Perfect except you do need fresh milk.

DarkNovemberBringsTheFog · 23/11/2025 20:20

My parents were given a Teasmaid when my Dad retired. You’re meant to wake up to the water already boiled, ready for tea. In practice the water boiling was quite noisy, it boiled for a while before it clicked off, and that woke them up. Also, they lived in a bungalow so it wasn’t far to the kitchen.

I don’t think they used it much. A kettle would have done the same job.

If you don’t like UHT milk, surely you could put some ordinary milk in an insulated bottle and bring it with you when you go to bed?

I would have loved a proper Teasmaid - that’s the dream but this is the next best thing!

I'd love a teasmaid, my gran-in-law had one.

However, I'd possibly never get out of bed if I had one so maybe it's for the best - what other incentive would I have for going downstairs in the mornings!

RhubarbRocks · 23/11/2025 20:22

We got a mini insulated flask that keeps the milk cold overnight and just put enough in for the next morning. Got the idea from a boutique hotel.

They are UHT. I'd rather take a little jug of fresh milk up, it'll keep overnight if the bedroom is cool.

You can get Swan ones for £60 on amazon. I think my GIL had one that looked like that

That's a good idea.
