Discussion with friends. Very heated disagreement. Unreasonable wearing knickers . Reasonable not wearing knickers

Perhaps the knickers on brigade don’t suffer from it… I’ve never had a bacterial or fungal fanny problem in my life. In fact, until I read this thread I didn’t realise how common it was!

I’m a nudey sleeper and never had a fanny problem either.

So if you sleep naked, do you change your sheets after every night?!

This is MN, they prob burn them.

Knickers under pjs and I have a shower every day. Cannot be bothered washing pjs every day. Definitely don't want to put on crusty pjs every night.

why would they be crusty 😳

Jollyjoy · 22/11/2025 23:36

It’s not air flow…it’s space. When you wear loose pjs there’s a big free space around your bits with nothing touching. When you wear knickers there’s cotton pressed up against. Meaning poor foof gets suffocated, I mean how must she feel with a gusset pressed against her all night long? Just no!

Does that help?!!

No, it does not.

thatsgotit · 22/11/2025 23:39

There seems to be an awful lot of fear of one’s own bodily fluids from some people on this thread… 🤔

Funnywonder · 22/11/2025 23:40

No fanny fungus here wearing me big knicks.

It blows my mind that all those who are pro knickers don’t understand how bacteria and fungi proliferate in warmth and humidity.

And yet here we are, functioning perfectly well, with nary a sign of thrush.

Also, do these bacteria and fungi only proliferate at night time? Are your nether regions permanently chilly during the day?

Denim4ever · 22/11/2025 23:40

sandrapinchedmysandwich · 22/11/2025 20:43

If you want to wear the same pyjamas twice then definitely knickers

eeek, washing pjs every day!

ohwoaw · 22/11/2025 23:41

I’ve had thrush a handful of times in my life and I wear knickers in bed every night. My bits aren’t sweaty and don’t need airing.

FableLies · 22/11/2025 23:41

Shortie PJs - no.
Long PJs - yes. Take PJ bottoms off before bed and sleep in knickers. Can't stand sleeping in long PJs.
Never had thrush. Or a water infection.

AMBOG · 22/11/2025 20:56

You will be shocked to know my very dirty friends don’t wear knickers and only change their pyjamas once a week!!!

😱 no way. Either with knickers (that are changed daily) or pjs only (that go in the laundry right after sleeping)

Makingpeace · 22/11/2025 23:42

ohwoaw · 22/11/2025 23:27

Just spread it on your pjs instead?

And then leave said pjs hanging around ready to continue growth the next night (and the next and however many nights until you change your pjs) too.

Screamingabdabz · 22/11/2025 23:43

Jollyjoy · 22/11/2025 23:36

But when you sleep, you move around. If you wear pjs you will invariably have fabric bunched up around your vulva. Especially if you are a side sleeper or fetal position. There is no ‘airflow’ in the way you describe it unless you are disciplined enough lie asleep on your back for 8 hours with legs akimbo.

Nah I’m not buying it. If your fanny is overheating then a single pair of loose thin cotton pants would be better than pjs.

Elphamouche · 22/11/2025 23:43

Team no knickers!!! always air your bits!!

I don’t wear anything at home, just knickers when I’m on. I’ll wear pjs with no knickers if staying with a friend or it’s really cold.

Not even a little bit.

Not really. Isn’t your butt pressed against the fabric of your pyjamas and also pressed against the bedlinen and the mattress? It doesn’t matter how loose the pjs are when you are lying on top of them. I think I will need a diagram showing how this big free space between the butt, the pjs and the duvet is achieved showing all the air flowing around.

In all seriousness though, the airing out sounds a bit ridiculous and the reality is it’s just a cultural thing.

Not a very pc term but this is definitely an old wives tale.

I was taught in sex education in school about 15 years ago to not wear underwear as you need to let the area breathe.

This was like PSHE where they discussed puberty and stuff too.

Ever since then I’ve always tried not to wear underwear in bed.

Nah. The bed clothes are too close to allow any air flow.

Nightdress or big t shirt, no knicks, change twice a week.

I'm very curious re hols and people who only wear nightwear once. Do they spend their holiday washing?

WrylyAmused · 22/11/2025 23:51

I'm so confused that this is even a thing - it's just like the wiping standing up or sitting down divide!

Team no knickers, let it breathe/air! And PJs are loose, what are people getting all over theirs?!?

Although I also hate things round my legs, so if anything it's loose boxers/french knickers.

Although in reality I mostly go for either naked or a long T-shirt, so neither really applicable.

User5306921 · 22/11/2025 23:52

I wear knickers under pyjamas.
I actually don't believe that all the posters who don't wear knickers are being truthful when they say they change their pyjamas every day instead.

Not going to manage a diagram, but no, your fanjo is not jam-pressed against the mattress unless you sleep while doing the splits.

Wear a nightgown?
