To say that women look bloody weird ….

.. when the only part of their face that moves is their mouth and eyes.

And don’t get me started on the massive fish lips.

Never see any naturally beautiful young women on TV these days. Such a shame

I also think a lot of younger people may regret the Turkey teeth when they get a little bit older, and can no longer afford to maintain them.

bottledboot · 20/11/2025 23:12

I also think it’s a symptom of selfie culture. People see what they look like in a mirror or a photo, they don’t tend to see themselves animated. What looks great in a still photo can look very different in motion.

Should be made a criminal offence for the disfigurement some of these 'surgeons' inflict on their gullible patients.

Agreed. Someone like Katie Price was so beautiful and she needs psychiatric treatment rather than more plastic surgery.

The my face/my body culture has gone mad. How can anyone support disfiguring themselves just for cosmetic/vanity reasons?

CantBreathe90 · 20/11/2025 23:18

The "look" isn't particularly my cup of tea, but there have been plenty of non-"natural" aesthetics people have gone for over time; white powder faces, shaving hair to create a faux "high forehead", facial tattoos, eyebrows plucked off and drawn back higher, totally flat chests on women, devices to make skulls different shapes, bound feet, the "fox eye-lift"... People will always follow trends. Botox and filler seem quite tame really, compared to how damaging or permanent some of the other ones have been.

🤣 Thanks for your insightful contribution

Being a grown up and having emotional regulation involves watching other adults make lifestyle choices that differ to yours without crashing out.

McSteamyorMcdreamy · 20/11/2025 23:23

Sorry wrong thread.!!

I wouldn't say it's the norm on TV but the look you describe is really popular with reality TV stars. The bigger the lips the lower the intellect and self esteem as far as I can see. I think they look ridiculous but the usually act and sound ridiculous to me too so I don't give them much thought. Some very young looking wealthy stars have had high quality work done that doesn't look bad at all, the only proof it that they look unnaturally younger.

Oh yay, this thread again. Let's all have a great time bashing other women for doing things to their own face that don't impact us in any way! Woo!

The thing is - it does. And there is a question here about why they feel compelled to do this. It shouldn’t be about bashing other women.

I really don’t care what people do to their faces. And some plastic surgery looks amazing. If it makes people feel better- great.

but there is a really homogenized idea of beauty that people are going for.

although I’m fighting a battle with ageing - I do wonder why I’ve been conditioned to fear a natural process. And I hate to admit, but being attractive is important to me.

I also think it’s really sad to see young women doing Botox, fearing wrinkles etc when they look stunning now - without any work done!

PomegranateVase · 20/11/2025 23:26

@GoingbackwardsForwards

I completely agree with you.

SaulHudsonDavidJones · 20/11/2025 23:26

Yes I agree. Sure, they can do what they want with their face, but I can still think they look weird and ridiculous 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'm pretty sick to death of being unable to lipread, myself.

WishinAndHopin · 20/11/2025 23:31

YANBU, they look horrific (and if they don't that means the work is good enough quality for us to not notice).

Botoxed women always get this weird wrinkly nose look where all their remaining facial expressions come through their noses. They also typical have low-set, frozen eyebrows that make them look old and manly. They have shiny foreheads.

Lip filler never, ever looks good or natural. Cheek filler makes their whole face look doughy, and their eyes look piggy.

I'm all for GOOD quality work (as women, especially in the public eye, are persecuted for aging naturally) but botox and filler always looks like a shitty cheap fix for people who are too poor or not brave enough for the proper surgical treatments or fat transfers.

Agree!

It’s only the bitterly insecure and unhappy people who feel the need to comment on other people’s appearances.

(They’ll try and disguise it as “oh I’m only concerned for the younger generation who are influenced to get treatments” but they don’t give a shit. They bash other women and belittle them to feel a bit better about their pathetic selves).

Just seen Vogue Williams on IACGMOOH but seems to be a common thing with celebrities. It’s a shame they don’t realise they are more beautiful in their natural state.

You think its a shame when a woman doesn't look as beautiful as she could?
Interesting. Because that's exactly the thinking that drives the cosmetic industry.
You're part of the problem.

PollyBell · 20/11/2025 23:31

Ok I will ask outright, who genuinely thinks fillers/beauty surgery, and fake breasts, tan and nails, eye lashes and brows, hair looks good, not I will just say it looks nice to keep them happy

and yes on men too

Who really thinks fake looks good on anyone?

Lovelyview · 20/11/2025 23:32

I read about Emma Stone having some 'tweakments' then I went to my Pilates group and we had a coffee and chat afterwards. All the women are aged 60+, none of them have had any botox or anything and I just thought they are lovely just the way they are because every single face was full of character and life and humour. It's terribly sad to see women plumped full of fillers with all the distinctiveness drained from their faces. If you're doing this to your face, stop it. It looks terrible.

FullOfMomsense · 20/11/2025 23:32

GoingbackwardsForwards · 20/11/2025 22:06

Oh, the irony

Why don't you talk about the real problem- is it your insecurity? Deep seated issues you repress and project? Maybe try some therapy and stop trying to drag women back to the 50s.

Of course it impacts others. Can you think who, and how? And why that’s not a great idea?

Dontlletmedownbruce · 20/11/2025 23:33

Pollqueen · 20/11/2025 22:13

If people disfigure themselves, others are going to comment on it 🙄

exactly! And if people are entitled have freedom to think and act how they wish without restriction, it works both ways. Someone is allowed to get fish lips, I'm allowed think they are an idiot.

JassyRadlett · 20/11/2025 23:33

I think it's fairly reasonable to ask what it is about our culture at this point in time that has created this as a beauty standard, and why it's more prevalent in Britain than in other countries - in the same way as it's sensible to question other beauty trends.

I'll totally uphold any woman's right to do what she will with her body and her appearance, but that doesn't mean blind acceptance that beauty standards are in a particularly healthy place right now, any more than they were when I was a teen and heroin chic was aspirational.

bottledboot · 20/11/2025 23:34
