Mum asked to stop breastfeeding a TWO YEAR OLD in shoe shop.

Mixed feelings with this one. Shaming a mother publicly breastfeeding a small baby is never acceptable but breastfeeding a two year old child in a shop? Surely at that age a bottle is more convenient in the middle of a shop? My first thought was that this was more about attention than the actual principle of the matter. After breastfeeding 3 of my own I can honestly say there has never been a time where it felt necessary to start breastfeeding any of mine in the middle of a shop at two years old. Frankly at that age they wouldn’t find much in mine anyway!

No, it isn't. Their mouth is shaped for breastfeeding. You can't even feel them. The shape of your mouth changes completely around the age of 6 or 7.

And babies have teeth at 6 months FYI. Their nutrition still comes from milk until 12 months.

I assume you are not a parent or you would know this stuff.

Yes. They are even called milk teeth.

Doesn’t mean they’re not capable of inflicting great pain when scraped across your nipple, as I found.

I wasn't breastfeeding much in public at that stage, because my DC was usually way more interested in exploring her surroundings or chatting to people.

But I certainly wouldn't have refused her just for the comfort of a few adults who could simply not look if they find a mother feeding/comforting their child so offensive.

god two isn't even that old! My sister BF her 3 year old on a busy train ! I did wonder if people would judge..

Precisely my point. But apparently that doesn’t happen if nobody experienced it. I absolutely hated breastfeeding once their teeth came through.

Jesus, some of my mates' kids were still on the boob at 4. BFD, you're being super judgemental.

You probably didn't have the best latch to begin with as you really shouldn't feel the teeth at all.

The poster we were replying to wrote "why would anyone actually want a child with teeth latched on to their nipple?" You might have found it agony as soon as your dc got milk teeth, doesn't mean everyone does. This thread is about interfering judgemental arses who are repulsed by others breastfeeding.

I’m aware of what the thread is about. I’m simply making the point that “milk teeth” can still be sharp and painful. That’s all!

I suppose the real issue is why would anyone actually want a child with teeth latched on to their nipple? Surely it’s a bit uncomfortable?

Tell me you know nothing about breastfeeding without telling me

The worst moment I had while bf was when my son clamped down on my nipple with his hard gums and didn't let go. The teeth were really a non issue, a little scrapy feeling when they first cut but that was gone after a day or two. If you've a proper latch then teeth are really not a big deal.

And also just to say you're experience is valid and you chose to feed as per your comfort levels and what works for you and your child.

You just don't get to think that everyone should or must feel the same way or have the same experience.

Well I do actually, yes. I get to have an opinion. As we all do.
