Son not invited to friend’s birthday party (13)

PeoniesGinandBags · 19/11/2025 18:47

My son is part of a group of a dozen or so boys in our smallish community who went to the local primary school together and then moved to the secondary school. Much bigger as it takes in from all the villages etc.

It was one of the boy’s birthdays and, it turns out, he had a birthday party at what looks to be a kind of snooker, bowling type place. I only know because his mum just shared all the photos on Facebook.

all of the boys from the group were there. My son had not been invited.

The family live a few doors down and whilst as parents were not friends on our own, we are friendly because our boys are.

Most nights, all of them are playing online together. As they are right now!

I feel really angry and upset that my son didn’t even get an invite. I’ve not asked him about it because I don’t know what to say. Am I wrong to think this is a bit of a crap thing to do? He’s absolutely the only one not invited. I know all of them as they’ve grown up together. It feels really exclusionary.

my son and the birthday boy did have a really small falling out perhaps 8 or 9 months ago but it was all done and dusted in a day and was nothing major. O even spoke with his mum above it.

i feel so sad that my son wasn’t included. And honestly, annoyed. Who does that? I would understand if it was just 2 or 3 pals but it is absolutely all of them!!!

Ok so we have established that a genocide has not been established. So probably a bit premature for you to discuss it so adamantly on this thread.

Is this the royal “wee”?

We have done no such thing, indeed the UN HRC would disagree. See my above post.

IsEveryUserNameBloodyTaken · 23/11/2025 13:03

nomas · 23/11/2025 12:13

How is it anti-Semitic? Neither OP or the twat mum are Jewish. You get that, right?

Not everything is anti-Semitic.

Edited

You do understand that a white person can call out another white person for being racist against a black person right, whilst neither of them being black.
I bet you wouldn’t have called the other mum twat mum if the op was flying Israeli flags though would you as it doesn’t fit in with your bias.
Indeed I bet you would be cheering her on and agreeing that the OPs child should not be invited if it was Israeli flags she was flying.

MyCrushWithEyeliner · 23/11/2025 13:04

That update is shocking 😳

Well, they haven't legally established a genocide. You said they had "academically". Which I would entirely agree with...its all rather academic at the moment.

I dont understand your "wee" point.

AliceMaforethought · 23/11/2025 13:11

OP, be honest. If someone had a lot of Israeli flags outside their house, would you not have done the exact same as this other mum?

AliceMaforethought · 23/11/2025 13:12

MyCrushWithEyeliner · 23/11/2025 13:04

Yes, it is shocking that people expect to jump on a bandwagon and wave flags and not experience any social consequences.

IsEveryUserNameBloodyTaken · 23/11/2025 12:31

Ah but she is biased though so you know.
I suppose it highlights how very very much bias and propaganda and lies there is worldwide about this conflict though.
So much political point scoring and taking sides that is counterproductive to actually moving forward and I’m not talking about on Mumsnet but worldwide.
Everyone has very entrenched views and the ability to move forward just doesn’t seem to be option as it appears to be more important to score political points against those you are biased against.

This is a very low level of discussion, complete with attribution of imagined bias.

I can see the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from both sides and I understand the historical context. But now Israel authorities have orchestrated campaigns resulting in the killing and harming of unprecedented numbers of Palestinians - they have lost the moral argument in Gaza.

IsEveryUserNameBloodyTaken · 23/11/2025 13:19

JamieCannister · 23/11/2025 12:37

Genuine question - if you saw two groups, one waving the Israeli flag and one waving the Palestinian flag, on the streets of the UK, which group would you expect to be most willing to engage in good faith debate, and to what extent does your answer lead you to conlude which side is more likely to be morally right?

To answer your question I would expect the Israel flag flyers to be the most willing to engage in debate.
Whilst I have not personally seen Palestinian flags she flyers up close I have seen very many videos of said flag flyers and they don’t actually seem to be able to hold a conversation beyond soundbites and repeating said sound bites and chanting slogans they have been taught.
From that I would conclude that the ones who would likely be more morally right are those I could have a conversation with.
However scrub that if their view was absolutely batshit and evil, even if they were eloquent in expressing that view then I wouldn’t count them as morally right.
It’s an interesting question actually and the same could be said for people on here.
You get those who able to debate in a civilised manor which you are more likely to listen to even if it’s a different point of view to your own, and then you get the more rabid very biased ones who you just laugh at and ignore.

kerstina · 23/11/2025 13:21

Am gobsmacked OP of all the petty things. Oh well you are both better off without intolerant people in your lives. Is she a reform voter by any chance.

MenoCoach · 23/11/2025 13:22

I'm really glad your son knows it's nothing to do with him or his friendship. That's a good outcome. The adults can deal separately with whatever fall outs they have over politics, etc. You're entitled to your views and to use flags, she's entitled to be upset by that.

ThePoshUns · 23/11/2025 13:26

AnyoneWhoHasAHeart · 23/11/2025 11:56

Well this was an interesting way of starting an anti semitic thread on MN.

An OP of “a school mum won’t let her son mix with mine because of my Palestinian flags, and I can’t see how she can object as she’s not even Jewish” would have had the thread pulled within minutes.

So how about drip-feeding the anti semitic bit way into the thread that way it’s less likely to be picked up.

And this is further backed up by the fact the OP seems to think that someone not Jewish shouldn’t object to a load of Palestinian flags, but she can seemingly fly said flags against Jews? Okayyyy.

It’s very simple. If you’re flying Palestinian flags then you’re either:

A terrorist sympathiser

Or a virtue signaller.

There is no in between.

Because the reality is that the majority of Palestinians voted for Hamas and are thus terrorist sympathisers in their own right.

That doesn’t mean that there aren’t innocent Palestinians, of course it doesn’t. But let’s not pretend that Hamas care any more for the lives of the innocent than Israel do. They absolutely don’t.

And no innocent Palestinian is going to walk by the garden of someone waving their flags and think “what lovely people they are, I’m so glad we have their support.” They will think of it as what it is. Pure virtue signalling and nothing else.

Well said @AnyoneWhoHasAHeart

Perhaps you didn’t grasp the significance of the rest of my post. Steps towards legal recognition have already started. The UN HRC Commission have already made legal findings relating to genocidal acts in Gaza.

This is not a legally binding court ruling, but it’s significant legal assessment that triggers heightened obligations for all nations under international law.

It also provides important evidence for international judicial bodies and exerts considerable political and moral pressure within the international community.

IsEveryUserNameBloodyTaken · 23/11/2025 13:32

nomas · 23/11/2025 12:39

The Palestinian flag. No brainer.

Of course you would, absolutely wouldn’t doubt it as although the question wasn’t asked of you, you couldn’t wait to nail your flag to the mast so to speak.
There can’t be anyone on this thread who isn’t aware of your bias against Jewish people if they weren’t already aware of that about you from other threads.
Whilst it’s fine to have an opinion, sometimes someone with a rabid biased opinion quite clearly shows that the person has an agenda.😂

IsEveryUserNameBloodyTaken · 23/11/2025 13:35

Aluna · 23/11/2025 12:18

It is no bias to explain other interpretations of what is after all simply a national flag.

“Terrorist sympathiser” was already covered by the poster I responded to, if you read their post.

Sorry I agree with your post.
I am having trouble keeping up as the bloody page keeps reloading.

Why can’t she put a flag? They are tiny anyway.

Bet you wouldn’t say the same if it was an Israeli flag.
Indeed by your biased posts I can guarantee it.

Do you understand that Palestine is being erased? Do you understand theyr not allowed a passport, that if youre from Palestine but getting a US passport for example, Palestine is not allowed to be out as country of birth. That's why she can fly the flag, to keep it alive because the Israeli government have their land. They just dont want to share it with Palestinians (who already lived there before they arrived).

Not good - you are clearly not looking very hard if you haven't seen much much worse from the other side.

Slightyamusedandsilly · 23/11/2025 13:44

Speaking personally, I'd see your pro-Palestinian stance as a very positive thing. And I'm sure it probably wouldn't affect the boys friendship. How can equality be an issue? Wanting to support any people suffering a genocide.

What I WOULD be wary about (coming from a multi-ethnic family) would be allowing my DC to socialise with union jack/St George's flag flying families. Because those aren't flown out of patriotism and the vast majority flying them are racists. And my DC wouldn't be safe around them.

JamieCannister · 23/11/2025 13:44

nomas · 23/11/2025 12:52

Equally then by your logic the Israel flag is pro terrorist IDF, who have admitted to killing indiscriminately.

I don't fly an Israeli flag for a variety of reasons, but not wishing to condone the actions of the IDF would be one of them

IsEveryUserNameBloodyTaken · 23/11/2025 13:45

JamieCannister · 23/11/2025 12:44

That does not in itself prove you are on the wrong side, but it does prove that you are a very poor judge of the reality of how the two sides behave and think and act. Which does suggest you might also be a poor judge of who is right or wrong.

I agree.

Hankunamatata · 23/11/2025 13:45

Id judge anyone for having flags at the front of their house.

Thats my choice

And virtue signalling twaddle.

Well I do know a bit about the law. Sufficient to be able to "grasp the significance" of anything significant that needs grasping. And if there's been no legal ruling establishing a genocide, then you cannot say a genocide has taken place. Yet. If ever.

Yes and that’s quite a rare occurrence as most people just roll their eyes at Pro Palestine marchers.
Indeed it is the Pro Palestine violent people who are causing alarm and violence.
But of course you would not acknowledge that.
