Fed up with men not being held to the same standards re. aging

I’ve just given my DH an earful watching I’m a celebrity. He commented on one of the female cast - ‘younger me knocked many a one out over her in the page 3 days’ followed by ‘she has let herself go now though so I don’t think I’d be repeating those days’.

Why is it so accepted that men will age and it’s to be expected they’ll be grey etc, but women have to face such negativity/criticism?

Nobody should be held to any standards as far as appearance is concerned. People look how they look and its nobody else's business. If people don't find me attractive, why should I care? I know this is simplistic, and our instincts seem to be to judge, but really, unless it affects our safety we should dismiss these thoughts.

elviswhorley · 18/11/2025 12:09

Criticism from who? Disgusting beer bellied balding impotent sweat stinky porn-addicted perverts?

That's not criticism. That's projection.

I said I gave him both barrels - but the underlying point was one I’ve noticed a lot from numerous people.

Did you ask whether he thought she'd feel the same way about him?

Ask him to make the face he thinks she would make knowing he wanked over her.

lol

mbosnz · 18/11/2025 12:13

Will anyone be 'knocking one out' over your husband, now he's older? Or has he let himself go? Rows of younger women lining up, lusting for his attentions, are they - outside of his dreams, that is. . .

I reckon about 1 in 500 men turns into a silver fox, and usually they are very good looking when they’re young.

Yep, like Martin Kemp, or David Essex! In fact I would go as far as to say Martin is actually more attractive now! (David is equally as attractive!) GrinGrin

Your husband is revolting. That’s all I take from your post.

That's such a good description of many middle aged/slightly older than middle aged men! 😂 (Like mid 40s to mid 60s!)

Exactly. Women usually get better, men get disgusting.
Everything men say is projection.
Look at how afraid they were of what's happening ("male loneliness epidemic"). They had to legislate us into marrying them and make life miserable unless a man adopted us.

Now we are free and rejecting them en masse in droves.

RosesAndHellebores · 17/11/2025 21:25

I think you need to raise your bar.
My DH neither thinks nor behaves like yours.
We are also in our 60s. DH isn't very grey, overweight or badly dressed. Neither am I, although I colour my hair.

Yes.
My husband is 75 and similar.
Plus, what other men think is largely irrelevant to me.

Goingbonkers247 · 18/11/2025 21:42

My partner would never say that. what a horrible and hurtful thing to say.

Ownedbykitties · 19/11/2025 00:10

Oh my good god. And you let him kiss you with that mouth? If that's what goes on inside men's heads, I hold out no hope for them. Gross 🤮.

gandeysflipflop · 19/11/2025 04:43

BatchCookBabe · 17/11/2025 21:37

I think you (and some other posters on here) are quite naive if you think that no man in your life/no man you have ever known, has ever spoken like the OP's husband. I'm not condoning it, but it's laughable to suggest that no man you know/have ever known has ever spoken like this. Maybe not around you, but the majority of men will have spoken like this at some time... It just wasn't while you were in earshot.....

.

Edited

Exactly! I know many many men that speak like this. maybe its a demographic thing? but in my working class northern town its not unusual at all to hear men speak like this even in 2025.

BeeWitchy · 19/11/2025 05:22

When they are young they mostly keep their thoughts to themselves when in mixed company. I don’t think they are always quite so circumspect in male only social
situations.

As they get old they start saying out loud the things they’ve been thinking all along.

Not all men. But too many men.

Bearbookagainandagain · 19/11/2025 05:28

YABU, the problem here is your husband.

Also, that's the type of comments being heard about men and women IMO, particularly on TV/cinema.

BrassedOffTiggy · 19/11/2025 05:52

You’ve only got to watch Hessomid (he’s so mid) on Instagram, where she calls men out for their revolting comments on women in the public eye. This is what supposedly normal men say about celebrities. Imagine what they say about regular women! Disgusting, the lot of them!

nomas · 19/11/2025 05:57

Winterwonderwhy · 17/11/2025 21:33

Exactly. Not one single man around me has ever spoken like this in all of my 44 years. Ever. I think it’s you who is surrounded by men like these op. I mean if it’s your own dh and then you say lots of others too

Oh you sweet summer child 😂

Holluschickie · 19/11/2025 06:22

I am sure lots of men think this and say this We don't have to put up with this though Walk out of the room. Protest Make your point.

firstofallimadelight · 19/11/2025 06:32

Well there’s two separate issues. Firstly the husbands comments are gross .
But secondly yes we live in a society where expectations of women’s looks is massive from colouring their hair, to wearing make up, uncomfortable clothing and shoes and some women end up choosing Botox, filers, surgeries all to look better and evade aging. The expectation on men is nowhere near as high and on top that women often have given birth multiple times and go through menopause yet are still expected to look amazing whilst being a wife, mother and successful in their career.

Chanelo · 19/11/2025 06:36

What a disgusting man!

Kelly is beautiful.

Holluschickie · 19/11/2025 06:36

Again, you can say no to getting Botox and fillers if you don't want them, whatever the expectation. I realise it may be difficult but it's possible. I am 53. Done nothing to my face and will do nothing. I don't want my DD to think she has to be pretty all her life to get respect.

Joeninety · 03/12/2025 16:14

What a weirdo fancying anything like that. She's flippin 46 now ??

I hate it when they're this clumsy and obvious. Come on, try to add a little art to it. If you can figure out how to sign up to MN, you can do better than this.

Don't want to be misconstrued.

You aren't.

Please, can you at least put a bit of effort into it? This is just so lowest common denominator. People used to be good at this stuff, believe it or not.
