Fed up with men not being held to the same standards re. aging

I’ve just given my DH an earful watching I’m a celebrity. He commented on one of the female cast - ‘younger me knocked many a one out over her in the page 3 days’ followed by ‘she has let herself go now though so I don’t think I’d be repeating those days’.

Why is it so accepted that men will age and it’s to be expected they’ll be grey etc, but women have to face such negativity/criticism?

OP posts:
BlissfullyBlue · 17/11/2025 21:39

Ugh. You are married to a revolting specimen all round OP.

Thebigonesgetaway · 17/11/2025 21:41

Jesus, I wish I hadn’t googled that, she was page 3. When she was 16! Which makes it even worse.

BatchCookBabe · 17/11/2025 21:41

ThatCyanCat · 17/11/2025 21:38

Oh hang on... seems she did do Page 3 but it was the Star, not the Sun.

Whatever. She's very beautiful. I don't blame any man for fancying her at any adult age but there's really no need to be an absolute pig about it. And the dreamboat thinks his wife needs to hear this?

Yes, she is gorgeous, but according to the OP's husband, she has lost her looks/gone past her sell-by date. Absolute cheek, and also untrue!

I'm sure he's a devilishly handsome dreamboat and Kelly Brook is sobbing into her silk pillows surrounded by pictures from her modelling portfolio...

Rage bait?

Rage bait?

Ill thought through if so, the only thing folks are raging about is this is just another pig of a man that thinks his wife wants to know he wanked over some teen, and now isn’t interested as in his view she’s let herself go, which let’s face it prob means gained weight,or has the temerity not to be a teen anymore.

Jesus, he sounds a scintillating conversationalist. It must be like living with a cross between Oscar Wilde and Stephen Fry.

I don't think women are any keener on the pot bellied wrinkly Mr Potato Head look either tbf. Its just that unlike men like your husband we don't labour under the delusion that our opinions on the appearance of the opposite sex need always be shared.

As always, you nail it.

Two things can be true at once.

  1. It is true that OP's husband is a disgusting sexist pig.
  2. Women are held to impossible beauty standards and not expected to age, where men get described as silver foxes etc. Women let themselves go, men get told they have hot dad bods. Etc.
BatchCookBabe · 17/11/2025 22:23

Yes @WinterHangingBasket ^

proximalhumerous · 17/11/2025 22:31

What a pig. I dare say the woman in question is highly unlikely to be "knocking one out" over your DH...

First post nails it.

Why does someone have to make this same tired comment on every other bloody thread?

Who is saying these things about men though, really? Apart from the women who love them, it's largely them saying it themselves. And self praise is no recommendation.

Maybe because the first post often nails it?

Just a guess mind....... Wink

Are you kidding? Women are slated and berated and bashed for having the audacity to get ..... GASP! .... older! And put on weight and get grey hair.

Society definitely doesn't judge men as much for doing this ('ageing gracefully,') as it does women!

No, I meant who is saying all this positive stuff about men getting better with age (lies!)? It's men. And more fool women if they join in with it because it's lies.

Oh sorry, I misunderstood you.

And yes I agree - and I said this earlier - it's a myth that men age better than women. I know far more women over 50 who still look good, and look after themselves, than men of a similar age.

As I said earlier, it's a myth perpetuated by men, to keep women in their place!

Yes, maybe it does, but just because something is true doesn't mean it needs to be relentlessly and tediously pointed out every time!

Greenwitchart · 17/11/2025 22:51

So many men delude themselves when it comes to ageing and seem to believe that it is something that only happens to women.

For examples, on dating apps where you have men in their 50s/60s who are no oil painting yet all seem to think they are entitled to dating attractive women in their 20s/30s.

A lot has to do with patriarchal and misogynist beliefs in society and the fact that so many men still just see women as objects and only value them for their looks and youth.

The media also play a big part by constantly shaming famous women for daring to age or put on weight.

It is all about keeping women in their 'place' and insecure and making them believe that their only strength/value is their appearance and whether men find them attractive or not. It is just another form of control.

Unfortunately OP your husband sounds like a pig...

zazazaaarmm · 17/11/2025 22:51

Pepperedpickles · 17/11/2025 21:22

This. My dh would never speak like this.

And if he did he would no longer be my husband.

TurquoiseHexagonSun · 17/11/2025 22:57

Absolutely. Older women are seen as being past their sell-by before they've even hit menopause, while men expect to be regarded as distinguished silver foxes when they age. Ugh.

WinterHangingBasket · 17/11/2025 22:58

5128gap · 17/11/2025 22:35

It is not only men who hold women to a higher standard than they do men. You can argue that the women who do it are responding to societal conditioning, however some of the most vicious commentary about women in general, but particularly as they age comes from other women. Women are vilified both for making an effort to stave off ageing (see S+B threads the moment botox is mentioned) and for choosing not to wear makeup or keep up with fashions.

Branleuse · 17/11/2025 22:59

I don't watch the show, but someone said it's Kelly Brook. I had such a crush on her when she was doing the big breakfast. 😍
I think it's quite funny that you're offended that he wouldn't still have a wank over the idea of KB now, because he's being ageist!!

Notsurewhatisnormalanymore · 17/11/2025 23:01

Please please please post a photo of your husband so we can compare him to the still very beautiful Kelly Brook, hahaha what a piece of shit he is. I agree with the sentiment but your husband is gross which is a bigger issue.
