Labour's new policies for asylum seekers

Are rumoured to follow Denmark's, which include the seizure of valuables from people arriving here to pay their accommodation costs.

Is anyone else disgusted by this?! How will it work, they can take people's jewellery, phones etc., and leave them with nothing? What sort of message does that send?

If they do this they should apply it to all asylum seekers. Including those arriving from Ukraine.

What? What do you want to seize from Ukrainians?

I notice you say those have been through the education system, not who are clever.

In other words those who have been taught the same groupthink as you - some might call that indoctrinated.

Tbh it is people like you that have made brexit an almighty mess. So certain of your own cause and the stupidity of others that stifled any discussion in the wake of an inconclusive referendum this preventing any kind of soft middle option.

You're a fool to your own assessment of your righteousness

I agree with most of what you have said, except for the bit about stifling discussion in the wake of the referendum…

IMO and recollection, the discussions leading up to the referendum were full of dismissive reports about how people questioning why staying in the EU was a good thing were a. Racist, b. Uneducated and c. Plain stupid, instead of calmly answering these questions with the benefits of staying in the EU.

As Melvyn, Lord King memorably stated, the day after the result “If you say to someone ‘you’re an idiot if you don’t agree with me’, you’re not likely to bring them in your direction”…

I called the result to go with Brexit a few weeks before the referendum, because of this exact attitude, and though I voted to remain, was really not surprised when the result came out as it did!

If a country exports arms to politically unstable countries, then that country should expect the inevitable consequences.

I wouldn’t describe the men in our local hotel who have been targeting young girls ‘vulnerable’ tbh.

Plenty of young women are.

I am not excusing any asylum seeker committing a serious crime. I think they should be deported. But we need to stay sensible. Exaggerating the criminality is a right wing tactic.

Remember the hysteria around both the Southport and Huntingdon attacks, first presumed to be committed by dark skinned immigrants. When both attackers were confirmed British born, this was not hugely well publicised.

The hero of Huntingdon, rail employee Samir Zitouni, is an Algerian immigrant who suffered life threatening injuries while saving others. His background was not publicised at all.

I had forgotten Mr Zitouni’s name. When I searched for it just now, AI told me that the Hero of Huntingdon was a passenger on the train with a standard British name. The guy did indeed behave commendably, but as no one can hold a candle to Mr Zitouni I found this …… baffling.

I thought the main asylum seekers were from countries we don't export arms to.

Ok. Now I know this is a wind up.

Speaking for an entire nation (where I live) and one where they're still not that happy about English people moving in and not integrating by learning the language.

Well that is understandable. Unlike asylum seekers, English people who move to other countries refuse to integrate and stick to their backwards culture. I have no qualms about people wanting to remove the English from Wales, especially as that would free up space for people from other countries who are likely to be very grateful for the opportunity to contribute to your amazing society.

Where there is will there is a way. If someone wants to kill people they will find a way. Dozens of countries export arms. Maybe ask yourself what causes the demand in arms?

Also, do you blame women who wear short skirts for getting raped?

I suspect it is entirely for the visuals and not expected to raise more than a negligible amount of money, the goal is just to stop anyone saying ‘it’s not fair, we get means tested for benefits but asylum seekers don’t.’

The e-bike thing seems really random and all I can think of is, maybe some of the asylum seekers who are working here illegally doing deliveries have acquired e-bikes but when questioned they play innocent and say ‘I brought it with me’?

I mean if you can get an under the counter job the e-bike is easily dealt with.

It will shift the tone though and is for visuals as you say. That’s to the public here, not arrivals who won’t care. It’ll probably set the scene for harsher measures at next GE.

Precisely. The Southport atrocity was commited by a Welsh choirboy and I don’t see anybody calling for serious reform of Welsh culture or choirs in the wake of that horrible crime. People just want to hate immigrants and conveniently forget when a British person commits a heinous act.

There is no requirement that you stop in the first safe country you step foot in.

Those who are saying the current announced measures won’t change anything - my understanding is they are based on similar issues in Denmark and have worked there (as well as decreasing support for the far right extremist party).

however, I’m sure those responsible for the latter will continue to spread misinformation online that the measures haven’t and won’t work whatever happens, hey? Why pay attention to reality, especially if it makes your ideas less popular!

The Danish socialists realised that the only way to beat the far right was to listen to the people concerned about asylum seekers overwhelming local populations and act on it. They’ve had great success with these populist policies. The Danish socialists think it’s important to put the welfare of Danes first, recognising if they spend lots i of money on immigrants then there’s less for the local population. Is this a bad thing?

My point was simply to illustrate that I don’t believe all asylum seekers are ‘vulernable’. Not a believe that only asylum seekers commit crimes.

70% of us don’t speak Welsh so I don’t know why we’d expect the English to learn it.

Yes, we are a global community and nobody in this day and age should be putting ‘British’ people first, do you have any idea how racist that is?

The fact of the matter is, borders should not exist. The only reason they do is so that greedy Gazillionaires can control the population by making us all hate each other when otherwise we would all be thriving together in a better world of love and tolerance. So no, putting anybody first from your own country is not a policy we should be entertaining.

Yes but they arent coming from a war torn country if they come from France.

And of course they should contribute as much as possible to their upkeep rather than rely on us. Including valuable items.

It’s lucky Labour can spin this line after leaning heavily on racist, far right, extremists up until a few days ago.

That’s not your fault, English oppression has resulted in the people of your country being denied the right to their own culture and heritage. As an English person myself, I can only wholeheartedly apologise for everything my ancestors did to your amazing people, and I hope that you gain your independence soon. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

And that you can go back to wearing those lovely Welsh hats without people taking the piss.

Not a case at all that ‘people just want to hate immigrants’.

I live near a hotel where several very serious incidents have happened where young girls including girls from our primary school have been targeted by the men in the hotel. We are normally a low crime area, with the main crime being domestic issues, but this hotel resulted in the first time since i’ve lived here that police were needed to patrol my street.

One of our concerns here is a hotel full of undocumented men, some of whom have criminal history who have been housed next to a primary school and are allowed to walk freely. I very much doubt we would have the same safety concern if it were a hotel of immigrant women.

And how exactly do you know that those people aren’t British? Is it because they look a certain way? Is that it?

Disgusting.

Love that your outrage isn’t asking what happened to the girls, but then that sums up what’s going on here

TheDreamCrusher · 17/11/2025 10:30

One night last week I read the news that a 20-something Egyptian asylum seeker dragged a woman into woodland and raped her. The next morning I got up and pulled up the news and 3 20-something asylum seekers had dragged a woman onto Bournemouth beach and gang raped her.

That night, Labours victims minister and Jeremy Corbyn’s sidekick massively diluted these crimes by illegal immigrants and that made me realise that I will have to hold my nose and vote for Reform if I want this to stop.

Labour won’t stop them.

phantomofthepopera · 17/11/2025 10:31

I think it’s a headline grabber that will keep the flag shaggers happy but actually apply to next to nobody. I’d imagine anything of any value will already have been handed over to the smugglers.
