To ask who actually gets the toppings?

Light hearted of course but this happens so frequently I am genuinely perplexed!

I love ice cream, as do my kids (one is ND so sticks to the same flavour 😂) but me and my daughter like to try the new and unusual ones. As such, we go to the places where you’re paying far more than you ought to now and again because they tend to have the more ‘seasonal’ or unusual flavours and have a new one each month - hopefully you know what type of place I mean.

My question is, who gets the stuff that’s on the top? You know the bits that make it look attractive and lure you in? Because I eat FAR too much ice cream and I have never, ever been given one of the biscuits, big chucks of chocolate, liquorice allsorts or jammy dodgers that are adorning the ice cream!

I’m more than happy with the ice cream I’ve had, this is not a complaint at all but what are they doing with the toppings? Perhaps you work somewhere like this, do they just remove them? Am I just unlucky that I’ve never had just the right portion at the right time? Seems unlikely considering how often I eat it 🙈

They just have a wee bit on the top and nothing through the rest of the tub!
My local parlour has white kinder beuno and that's usually sprinkled through the whole ice cream 😋

I think the toppings on the display things of ice-cream are literally just to demonstrate what's inside or the flavour. I don't think they serve them. They want you to pay for extra ones. I think it makes it look like there's going to be loads of bits inside but it's just smooth or only tiny crumbs.

Looking at the replies I think it depends on the establishment. Some are pricier than others and it seems wasteful to just discard the toppings. I’ve attached a photo of the place we usually go and I doubt they would just throw them away. I promise I’m not complaining but it’s almost £4 for one scoop at this place (in a tub) so I don’t think getting the odd full marshmallow or biscuit in your tub would be considered an unreasonable expectation. I honestly think a lot of those gelato shops sells the cheapest shit with no real cream or eggs or anything in. Just really sweet. Budget ass bastards!

Morrisons have Kelly’s Cornish Clotted Cream Ice-Cream on offer and it’s really nice but no match for the type of place in your image (we’re in Cornwall so have lots around us).

The toppings go right across the container at our lovely ice cream place, pretty much everyone gets a bit. Didn't realise other places gatekeep them, they are integral to flavour at ours. My favourite being cinnamon apple crumble, with extra crumble in the topping and crunchy cinnamon bits.

That's true my DD is slightly over enfusiastic when she gets an ice-cream.😂😂😂 She has an obvious disability and looks younger than her age. She always wants the same flavour. Which is usually available it's rare they have run out. But she does sometimes get some of the toppings and an extra scoop even though I asked for 1.

It’s just light hearted, I was a bit bored and genuinely curious and this is an anonymous forum. The staff in there are a bit unapproachable. I also used to be really obese so still carry some body image issues which probably is part of the reason I didn’t feel comfortable asking (scared of looking greedy maybe?) I had hoped by saying it’s light hearted and by being bright and breezy it would have been obvious it wasn’t that deep but here we are.
