To drop my kids off at partying neighbours at 6am tomorrow

I won’t do this (I think!) because it wouldn’t be good for the kids but ideas welcome.

My 3yo and 5yo couldn’t sleep 2 weeks ago thanks to a wild party held by our student neighbours (sound system, professional security, hundreds spilling into the street).

DH is away with work this weekend and they are having ‘pres’. In my day this meant shots in the house and games. Now apparently it’s 50+ people shouting and screaming in the garden.

I knocked on their door earlier and explained that, we know we live near a uni campus, some parties are expected. But having another huge party 2 weeks later and keeping my tired preschoolers up (with no notice, I’d have taken them to my mum and dads had I known!) is unacceptable. I said I was going to be up with them at 5.30am (as usual) tomorrow and threatened to drop them over while they’re nursing their hangovers.

Obviously I won’t drop 3 & 5 year olds in a house of hungover students at 6am but AIBU for being tempted?!

You won’t do this because you can’t, they will rightly shut the door in your face!

Re unacceptable noise, complain to their landlord and council.

Cheepcheepcheep · 15/11/2025 22:39

For the record we live in a residential area, lots of older people and families. We are used to having student neighbours but this lot seem particularly intolerant of being in a suburban area. I have spoken with them at length…

They’re not going to stop. There’s not much you can do.

Well that too. But I quite like the idea of banging on their door anyway!

Council don’t care. Landlord is some conglomerate offshore. Tempted to report them to the university who are fairly good but don’t want to screw their degrees, just want to get them to understand the impact of their decisions.

Professional security? Hundreds of people? What sort of residential area are we talking here, because professionals who have been hired to keep security up surely won’t be letting hundreds of people in a three bed semi?

HeddaGarbled · 15/11/2025 22:44

Blimey, what sort of students can afford professional security?

Cheepcheepcheep · 15/11/2025 22:44

Apparently was a friend of theirs who had a badge and was willing to do it.

Happy to dox myself - I live in a suburb of Guildford near to Surrey uni.

Ring the police. Report as a noise nuisance to the council.
Failing that put the kids telly on repeat and full blast...or start learning the recorder/trombone/bagpipes.

TheNightingalesStarling · 15/11/2025 22:45

Complain to the university. Its likely in the code of conduct to be respectful to neighbours.

Gettingbysomehow · 15/11/2025 22:45

Call the police. That's what I do.

80smonster · 15/11/2025 22:46

You need to check out Gravel Man on TikTok, he’s got shifty neighbour retaliation down pat: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZNdEqxR9s/
Could you subvert somehow and try and dial Mr Tumble onto their Bluetooth speaker, volume 100?

Whatabouterytoutery · 15/11/2025 22:46

We lived above the loudest partying neighbours who actually had young children of similar ages to your and it didn’t seem to encourage them towards sleep ever at the weekend.. You have my unbridled sympathy. It wasn’t fun.

Cheepcheepcheep · 15/11/2025 22:46

FWIW I did call the police on the party 2 weeks ago, but obviously they had more pressing concerns.

Tonight was ‘just’ a party but my goodwill is seriously eroded after the events of a fortnight ago.

I might knock on their door every hour from first thing and ask them stupid questions… or take a video and report to the landlord and the uni. I’m sure the uni can get involved in students behaviour.

Cheepcheepcheep · 15/11/2025 22:49

We have previously had good outcomes from the uni but that was when they had a dedicated town/student liaison person. Which has obviously been cut.

Next door neighbors? Get the kids out into the garden after breakfast, wrapped up warm with the noisiest toys they have. Play loud games of tag and whats the time Mr Wolf, encourage lots of excitement and squeals.

The temptation to send my 3yo (who has just learned what knock knock jokes are) to bore them for hours while I nap is so tempting! If only I didn’t care about my kids 😬

I really get it but even my kids (and they are loud) can’t compete with the bass of the soundsystem and drunk girl screaming

You and presumably your neighbours reported to the police that there were hundreds of partygoers spilling out onto the street from residential property, and they didn't attend?

Yep! Genuinely - we’re on a WhatsApp group and were chatting while reporting (our 60 something neighbour is our cheerleader, she lives with her 90 something mum in the house she was born in!) As there was no violence, they couldn’t attend as it was antisocial not violent and they didn’t have capacity.)

Have your children kick a ball or similar into their garden, knock on their door to get it back...and repeat, for ages. Tell the kids their garden is the goal in the football game 😂

Okiedokie123 · 15/11/2025 23:02

I’d be tempted to repeatedly bang on their door every morning at 7am until they get the idea that you can be annoying too. Each morning when they open the door I’d be tempted to breezily sing”wake up it’s a beautiful morning…….”
and other splendid morning songs.
“Morning has broken……”
Im sure there are more!
maybe whilst standing their with a tray of breakfast pastries lol.

I live next town along, also with a univeristy college, so feel for you. My DD is in halls in London and shares an apartment with students that are similarly minded to your neighbours and who are still up at 530 choosing to go clubbing and bring home 20 or so drunk randoms who scream/shout/and play music all night in the kitchen (next to her room) thurs-sunday. She is on her knees. Some of her flatmates travel home to Birmingham at the weekend as it’s the only way to escape and the uni do nothing.

No idea why [this minority of] students have no consideration for others.

LadyHexham · 15/11/2025 23:05

I had partying students next door, in a terraced house. Not just once.
Maria Callas, 6am at full blast with the speakers directed at their wall did the trick.

Don't forget a tinkly laugh to add to the absolute douchebaggery 🙄
