To allow DD to buy this 'obscene' top?

DD14 just lost 10kg, went down from 62 to 52kg (she's pretty petite, only 160 cm tall) and wants to buy herself this top since she's now at a healthy weight for her age and was putting off buying new tops earlier because she didn't want them to stop fitting her: https://www.victoriassecret.co.uk/style/su826145/w96067

My sister thinks it's 'obscene' and a 'lingerie ad' as well as 'something she saw on social media' which is complete nonsense because she uses one of those granny flip phones and isn't on social media except discord, spotify and IRC (no idea if those count)

I don't see the problem honestly, there's nothing obscene about lingerie if you ask me in the 1st place, and VS has always made clothes

This is a photo of the top in the colour she wants it:

The only obscene thing about this is the price

Gettingbysomehow · 15/11/2025 11:13

That could only be deemed obscene if she lived in Saudi. Otherwise no.

PictureParfait · 15/11/2025 11:27

The top is fine. Your sister is being weird.

Ivy888 · 15/11/2025 11:37

Your sister is being a bit weird

Franpie · 15/11/2025 11:45

I dread to think what your sister would think of the tiny little tops my DD goes out to parties in 😳.

zingally · 15/11/2025 11:49

I was expecting something VERY different until I scrolled down! That's just a regular t-shirt!

BunnyLake · 15/11/2025 11:51

maggie2k · 14/11/2025 23:38

All it says is 'victoria's secret' and because she's petite it'll also be longish looking on her

She goes to a private girls school with no uniform so has been buying a lot of new clothes lately

Nothing wrong with the top per se but I wouldn't want the VS logo on it for a 14 yr old. So I personally, as a parent, would say no.

Not topic of thread but no uniform for private school is very unusual.

Mrsgus · 15/11/2025 11:51

Back in 2010 my daughter and her friends all wanted Playboy bunny clothing, not realising the connotation of it. Trends change but it all depends on whether you are happy to let her wear it.

Mermaidsarereal · 15/11/2025 11:55

I think Victoria Secret is popular among the teens, my 13 year old has asked for silky PJ's and a fluffy dressing gown aswell as the body mists from there for Christmas. The top isn't obscene or revealing, I'd let her get it its just a brand. Well done to your daughter for losing that weight too!

EgregiouslyOverdressed · 15/11/2025 12:00

Your sister is batshit.

Ohduckie · 15/11/2025 12:00

😂😂😂 Marks and Spencers is also known for it's lingerie 😂😂😂
Your sister needs to mind her own business and/or get a life if she's freaking out about this!

NimbleDreamer · 15/11/2025 12:01

Is your sister from the Victorian times? Obscene? It's a t shirt 😅

Emmz1510 · 15/11/2025 12:24

Jeez when I followed the link I was expecting to see some piece of fancy underwear masquerading as clothing! But this is just a t shirt. I quite like it actually! So what if it’s ’advertising underwear’? Is there there something sinful and scandalous about women’s underwear now?

SemperIdem · 15/11/2025 12:39

Oh it’s fine! Let her have the top. When I was her age I had a French Connection top with FCUK on it. I thought it was terribly cool and rebellious.

Nbo · 15/11/2025 12:44

Jasperis · 14/11/2025 23:57

Would she wear one with Ann Summers on the front? Similar places to me. Yet it would seem a bit inappropriate for school. Maybe that's what your sister is getting at.

anne summers and Victoria secrets are totally different. Victoria secret and pink have always sold underwear, clothes and perfume. Anne summers is mainly sex toys

NotTonightDeidre · 15/11/2025 12:49

LaserPumpkin · 14/11/2025 23:46

It’s better than the FCUK ones everyone used to wear back in the day

Oh god, you just made me remember that I had one that said "fit chick unbelievable knockers" 😳

OP I have a teen girl & I'd not bat an eyelid at that shirt.

DemelzaandRoss · 15/11/2025 12:52

It’s absolutely fine!!
If that’s the worst she wants to wear you’re in a win win situation!!

saltedcaramelcat · 15/11/2025 13:13

This is one of the most modest tops out there, YANBU whasoever. It's just a t-shirt and the print is absolutely very tame.

SquareEyedSue · 15/11/2025 13:14

young women may wear that logo with irony. They are a fiercely feminist generation.

it is a great top. I love it.

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 15/11/2025 13:19

If I saw it I would just think it’s a t shirt.
I don’t know much about Victoria’s Secret but I don’t consider underwear obscene so I don’t see the problem.
Maybe I’m missing something

FairKoala · 15/11/2025 13:20

Only thing I can think of against it is whether the school allow logos on clothes.

Dd went to a school where certain items of the uniform you could wear anything as long as it was a certain colour and no logos

Even in 6th form where the students can wear their own clothes I think the rule is no logos

As for obscene, wtf is obscene about it?

I am more than likely old enough to be your sisters mother and even I know VS does normal clothes, not just underwear and night wear

Tell her to at least do her research before passing judgement

FairKoala · 15/11/2025 13:22

They also do perfumes and body sprays or is that also top shelf over 21s only material according to your sister

canklesmctacotits · 15/11/2025 13:23

It’s a plan grey t shirt, really nothing wrong with it. BUT (1) I don’t allow my DC to wear branded clothes like this because they’re not unpaid billboards. The Nike tick is one thing; VICTORIA’S SECRET and only that across the breasts is another (2) if my 14yo DD wanted to advertise, or align herself with VS, I’d be so depressingly disappointed that she thinks those models and that Trump-supporting seedy world where the girls all have to conform to one or two types is something to want or vaunt. I’d say no for those reasons. I’d actually be far happier with a skimpier top without the branding (which is also just plain tacky).

JustSawJohnny · 15/11/2025 13:36

FFS it's a T SHIRT!

Just because VS sell lingerie, it doesn't mean everything they sell is such.

I mean, M&S sell bras AND clothes - does this get her in a rage too?!

Is she always a raging prude?

When I was in my youth people used to walk around in a Cradle of Filth Tee with 'JESUS IS A C*NT' in massive letters on the front.

Now THAT was offensive!!

Let DD have the shirt and tell your sister to unclench.

Beerhy · 15/11/2025 13:38

😂 thanks for bringing back the cringe 😂 it made the t shirt make so much more sense 😅
