To find this weird and a bit cringy

This is light hearted but I still find it odd. So my BIL always stands on his tiptoes in photos to make himself look taller. He’s not even particularly short- about 5’10” . He looks ridiculous in the photos but he doesn’t want to appear shorter than any of the women - but he doesn’t seem to mind looking silly .

OP posts:

It's only like millions of people who pose for photos, what does it matter?

In fairness, women have caused this problem, with all the bullshit about how tall a guy must, and how any man under 6ft is basically pathetic.

And men are quite free to opt out of that.

Why does it bother you 😂

Found him 😂😂

Mizztikle · 12/11/2025 14:13

Platforms for Christmas?😂

Pistachiocake · 12/11/2025 14:15

If someone gets picked on for a physical characteristic, they often respond in ways that seem silly. Especially these days, when some dating apps apparently preclude men under 6 ft (I've been told by many people this is true, though it seems ridiculous to me), they maybe feel they have to do this.
But then I know a lot of women who think it's stupid that people wear high heels, and I guess standing on tiptoe in a photo is less damaging than wearing high heels regularly.
I suppose a lot of people deliberately pose to look slimmer/taller/whateverer in photos, and always have done, though it's only recently that both men and women have edited photos to do so (don't know if he does that, OP!).

LostThestral · 12/11/2025 14:41

what's wrong with that? I don't see it as any different to sucking in your stomach for a picture. At least he's not pulling (hopefully) one of those stupid pouty duck faces that people do these days

problembottom · 12/11/2025 14:43

With all these men on tiptoes I'm wondering why my DP doesn't do this, he's 5'7. I'm going to suggest it!

In real life I have never known a woman to give a shit about height.

I only ever seen posts shaming men for height being shared from 'online dating shaming' thing and lets be honest their shitty shallow attitude is probably WHY they are chronically single in the first place.

Hardly representative of all women, just a minority. Same way Incels or Nice Guys aren't representative 'men'.

Is there any problem we didn't cause?

Tbh I've always gone for men over 6ft ( runs and hides)

No, women have not caused this problem.
I have preferences as an adult, should I hide them not to cause a problem to short men?
😂

I think most women do prefer a man to be taller.

I dispute that this makes us responsible for the "problem" of some individual guy, on the taller end of average, standing on tiptoes in photos. Or if it is, the definite general male preference for slimmer women must be to blame for the "problem" of women sucking in their stomachs, standing in semi profile or doing other contrived poses to look thinner in photos, not to mention eating disorders. But I bet that's somehow our fault too.

Catpiece · 12/11/2025 14:56

Shame he’s in the wrong decade/century. The platforms of the 70s would have saved all the balancing on tipi toes. Ps he sounds ridiculous

bottledboot · 12/11/2025 14:58

Some of my friends always stand on their tip toe when they are bare feet to elongate the legs 😆

Doobedobe · 12/11/2025 14:59

Well a lot of women, myself included will wear makeup, die hair greys and wear false nails to appear different to what they are, and pose in photos, pouting, standing diagonal or holding an arm out so it doesnt look flabby. I don't really see this as being much different. If it makes him happier in himself to stand on tiptoes, then so what??

seaelephant · 12/11/2025 15:01

Reminds me in all the pictures of Charles and Diana, he’s either on a hidden step or has large-soled shoes to make himself taller. Very much little-man syndrome and quite pathetic

I used to try this (didn't happen often as I hate being barefoot) but that is one turd I was never going to be able to polish...

meganorks · 12/11/2025 11:11

Yeah, pretty cringey and pathetic. But then so many women seem to state they wouldn't date anyone under 6ft or at least some height that is significantly above theirs. I literally can't think of anything less important.

My own MIL was horrified when I said I was wearing heals at my wedding as it would make me taller than my DH. And she certainly couldn't seem to comprehend that he also did not give a shit

So many women? Really?

nosleepforme · 12/11/2025 15:31

It’s funny, but wouldn’t bother me enough to complain. Why do you care?

bottledboot · 12/11/2025 16:02

@ThatCyanCat 🤣🤣 some times they can barely stay up! The smile is on for photo but the panic is in their eyes.

TheIceBear · 12/11/2025 16:06

5ft 10 isn’t even short so YANBU. I wonder does he realise he is doing it.
I noticed that when I am in front (even just standing slightly more out than others) in group photos I tend to look bigger than I am. There is always a scramble in our work group photos to not be standing out a bit so I’d say I’m not the only one who noticed this phenomenon ha

Whentosayitsover · 12/11/2025 16:10

I think it must be a real insecurity for him. If it were a woman trying to tilt her head to hide a double chin, or stoop so as not to seem so tall or suck a stomach in, would you have the same reaction?

BillieWiper · 12/11/2025 16:24

pinkyredrose · 12/11/2025 12:28

This really made me lol!😂

I'm the same, i need time to suck in all the relevant bits or i look like a sack of potatoes propped up by upside down milk bottles 😅

Haha. I'm just imagining us both turning up at a modelling agency literally looking like those things. We would be good for milk or crisps adverts?! 🤣🤣
