To find this weird and a bit cringy

This is light hearted but I still find it odd. So my BIL always stands on his tiptoes in photos to make himself look taller. He’s not even particularly short- about 5’10” . He looks ridiculous in the photos but he doesn’t want to appear shorter than any of the women - but he doesn’t seem to mind looking silly .

In fairness, women have caused this problem, with all the bullshit about how tall a guy must, and how any man under 6ft is basically pathetic.

I am guessing you’re a short man or with a shortarse?

AmITheLastOne · 12/11/2025 17:03

I don’t see it as any different to women adjusting their stance for a photo. I don’t consider myself particularly vain but I like to try and look nice in photos. It’s a totally normal thing to do.

JohnTheRevelator · 12/11/2025 17:24

Does he wear stacked heel shoes as well? 😂

JillMW · 12/11/2025 19:19

Tbh I see lots of women standing with one knee bent to make them self look like they need a wee…to make themself look shorter , I mean to make themself look shorter! Oh and the ones who stick one leg out of the side split on every pic as if they are about to do a high kick.
Poor man, why is it ok for woman o pose but not men?

SoftLeaf · 12/11/2025 19:38

Luckyingame · 12/11/2025 14:53

No, women have not caused this problem.
I have preferences as an adult, should I hide them not to cause a problem to short men?
😂

Short men never seem to be all that insecure.

I find average heighters always inflate their number and dislike women being taller than them and feel threatened.

Tall men think their height is a substitute personality.

Ciccici · 12/11/2025 19:50

Tall men think their height is a substitute personality

Well, only some tall men I guess. But I do happen to know two men over 6 6" who both refer to themselves as "member of the 6 7" club" or Dave the Giant (not called Dave Grin) or some such thing. These two separately talk about their height very frequently, as though we hadn't noticed.

In their cases, being tall is genuinely part of their personality. I find it a bit odd!

For starters, it's not 'a problem' if some men can't get any woman they want because some women prefer tall men. It's just something men under 6 foot (75%) need to accept, and find a woman who doesn't mind.
Secondly, women did not create the stereotype that men should be tall strong and powerful and women smaller and weaker. Men did.
If that's been a bit of a own goal for the men who don't meet the standards set by men in a man's world, that's a shame.
Women don't love having to be conventionally attractive and perpetually youthful much either. Sad times all round.

100 percent this :)

I would add that women are perfectly entitled to be attracted to anyone they want, for any reason they want, no explanation of any kind required (men too).

soupyspoon · 12/11/2025 21:25

How many threads have you started OP about all your female relatives or friends who do that ridiculous pout and pose? How many of them breathe in or turn to their best side?

All of us pose in pictures, good for us so that we look halfway reasonable.

YellowGuido · 12/11/2025 21:39

Buy him some of those stilt / cup things for Christmas… 😁

StrongLikeMamma · 12/11/2025 21:58

Otterdrunk · 12/11/2025 22:14

BluTangClan · 12/11/2025 22:39

Cristiano Ronaldo used to do this, not sure if he still does.

Haha. I'm just imagining us both turning up at a modelling agency literally looking like those things. We would be good for milk or crisps adverts?! 🤣🤣

That would be amazing!😂

JLou08 · 13/11/2025 18:27

I've seen a lot of women bring insistent on doing certain poses or having certain angles to make them look their best on photos. I do miss the more natural photos before we had camera phones but if people feel they need to do things like that to feel better about themselves its no big deal.

I agree.

I know loads of women who hold their gut in or raise their head so they don’t have a double chin etc.

I also know of at least 3 women who are self conscious of their height and slightly bend their knees when posing.

I would never think to start a thread or find someone’s insecurities weird or cringey.

Is it much different to when you see women having their pictures taken and they cross their legs to get an hourglass figure?

Definitely a middle-aged man.

Oh I wasn’t doubting you! I meant it was giving child-vibes with Justin fletcher type shoes 😅

It is 100% men that have stated women want 6ft, 6 inches and 6 figures. Look around you, there are many many men who are shorter who are not single.

I would get everyone else in the picture to stand on their tip toes as well. I am really short so I would also drag over a chair to stand on if there was one nearby 😂

Me too

Is that why they do it? I thought they needed the bathroom.

Initially this. Then everyone should slightly bend their knees more and more over the course of a year. After that, mixing it up with a bit of both….. 😂 It could easily become a family tradition passed on for generations to come!

SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess · 14/11/2025 01:26

How about buying him a pair of built up shoes for special photo occasions.

You could get him a pair for Christmas.

Just the job

🧑‍🎄🫎👞👍

BauhausOfEliott · 12/11/2025 11:39

It’s no different from standing at an angle to look slimmer, lifting your head to avoid a double chin, taking your glasses off or holding your belly in for a photo, really.

Everyone has some little insecurities, whether they’re appearance related or otherwise. No need to pick them apart.

I was going to say this, I feel quite sad for him.

Muffinmam · 14/11/2025 02:48

I had an ex who was short. He was very good looking but sooo short. I figured it would be fine as I’m short.

I did notice that he would stand on his tippy toes around other men.

This guy was the stingiest guy I’ve ever met and a complete a-hole. He was always after everything he could get from other people. I will never ever date another short man.

This '6 foot' nonsense is quoted as something women say but it's clearly incorrect because there are plenty of men shorter than that in relationships! Maybe one or two people say that in Tinder profiles but that's not representative.
Referring to women as one homogeneous class of people is ridiculous anyway.
