Husband wants to move to dubai

1000 replies

Dilemma87 · 09/11/2025 20:37

My husband is a businessman in property and with the recent proposed tax changes and new rules putting limits on how long he can keep doing things from the UK, he’s now saying he needs to move to Dubai and operate from there.

We actually have some friends there, and his business partner is already based out there, so on paper it all sounds easy enough. His plan is to buy a second property in Dubai and move there by himself, while I stay here with the kids.

The problem is, the children are really settled one’s in high school and the other is due to start soon, so moving them just isn’t an option. He’s suggested that we (me and the kids) fly out to Dubai every school holiday to spend time with him.

The catch is, under his visa he can only be out of Dubai for 90 days a year, so he’d basically have to live there full-time.

AIBU to think this is just not going to work long-term? I can’t help but feel like this is the start of living completely separate lives.

At least

Your ethics and morals came from a time where one income was enough and you could buy houses 🤣
There's plenty of people that can pay taxes in the UK
What exactly do you want from this man who's trying to better his life and the life of his kids?
Are you surprised that people in the UK are finally emigrating to seek pastures new?
It's a big world out there, and young people have the energy to go out and seek their fortunes 😉

At least pp still HAS her ethics and morals. I suppose such things are 🤣 😉 to those such as you. Very 'I'm alright, Jack!'

I'm not disputing that Dubai is safer (though I don't agree with the death penalty, as I've said,,so am concerned by the amount of people who seem to imply we should copy them).

What I'm disputing is that pp's ridiculous assertion that the UK is one of the most dangerous countries for women. That's more than ridiculous: it's an insult to the UK and to the women who live in countries that are actually the most dangerous.

I understand the issue with the death penalty. I'd only want it applied where the level of evidence is high. As in even higher than reasonable doubt.

oviraptor21 · 10/11/2025 14:30

It's very clear where you and the children are in his priority list.

Right. I never want it applied, that's an absolute moral boundary for me.

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 10/11/2025 14:31

He sounds like a bit of a creep and not very trustworthy.
I would say 'of you go Dave, send the money home, love you..." make sure he is paying all the bills and get yourself set up as a happy, wealthy single mum with an ex overseas.

Noone owes anyone anything,
And your average Joe isn't the one that needs to save the country.
It's the government
And in case you didn't know, there's a little something called autonomy, people.can choose for themselves what they want to do to better their lives.
Taxes are very high compared to wages and inflation
My weekly asda shop in 2022 was £57, the exact same shop this year costs over £90
Has my income doubled?
Nope
Being a martyr is to stay stagnant when you can do something about it.
If I get the opportunity to go, I will certainly go.
You can stay and pay taxes 😉
Oh, u don't anymore, so you want to dictate to others now is it
I suffered so you suffer with me?

'No one owes anyone anything' - what disgusting selfishness.

'That's the government's job to sort out' - when has that attitude ever worked? The wat the country runs is everyone's responsibility in a democracy.

Right. I never want it applied, that's an absolute moral boundary for me.

I'd want it applied for murderers, the most vile criminals.

Then again I'd understand the arguments against it and always the risk of expecting and innocent

I know how you feel, when you read about terrible crimes it's very tempting. But it's my firm belief that no civilised society can allow killing in that way. I definitely think we need much harsher sentences for the worst crimes. There should be life for rape, child abuse and murder by default. Our prisons are chronically mismanaged and that has to be dealt with.

All of Europe except Belarus has no death penalty and most has lower violent crime than us. There must be other ways to lower crime.

Whole life tariffs? I think this is sensible.

I understand your view as well.

I don’t see him wanting to come back once he has moved and settled there

And has a new partner and family....

Carla786 · 10/11/2025 14:41

sunshinestar1986 · 09/11/2025 21:49

Oh so like the UK?
Ah ok
They learnt from the best 😉

Do you really believe that the UK is built on the backs of slaves to the extent that Dubai is?

You certainly seem to dislike the UK irrationally. No wonder you want to leave and feel no responsibility to fellow residents...

Sorry trying to keep up. Didn’t expect it to blow up this much.

He proposed we all move to Dubai. I’d didn’t want to uproot the kids. I also love my job here in the UK.

He is well known for how friendly he is towards women. Someone in the gym recently accused him of making things up about one of these females to stop other men speaking to her. ( She is very attractive, 10 years younger and sees to have plenty of money). I have told him I don’t like this friendships but he carries on.

We have a family home but had recently started renovating a larger one which will continue for the moment.

I couldn’t afford the schools fees or lifestyle if he was to leave me which does worry me as I have a child from a previous relationship so know the struggle.

I do have concerns that our relationship will be over but this would provide us more financial security in our old age

It will not though. Once he moves and the relationship ends, you will not see any of his money in a divorce. It will all be hidden/ offshore.

Realistically I would be logging info on finances and talking to a solicitor now.

He is proposing a massive move based off Budget speculation - supposedly - rather than facts. But it sounds like this is just something he has wanted to do regardless.

Lovemesome · 10/11/2025 14:43

When was the last time things were "good" in the UK?

I always think the New Labour years. Why can't Starmer just replicate why Blair and Brown did on the economy?

Dilemma87 · 10/11/2025 13:54

He has got advise through a business partner that has already done this. I didn’t realise the 90 days were uk rules and not Dubai.

Lots to think about. I don’t think I’d have time to divorce him. I do love him and we’ve built a great life together.

I worry about the other women, as nothing has happened that I know of here. The one women in particular apparently isn’t interested in him like that but I do worry what if she had been.

They are tax residency rules. Replacing non dom rules. But fairly standard across the globe.

WildLimePoet · 09/11/2025 21:51

Whenever you meet people who have this irrational hatred of Dubai and US and try and talk people out of moving there. You notice one common trait. That they’re not very bright and certainly not talented enough to ever be the types who would get offered anything decent there to move for.

They tend to be raging leftie types, usually not well travelled, regurgitate what they read in the Guardian and not very economically and fiscally aware.

So you think only the economically illiterate, stupid and raging would object to slave labour, sexual exploitation of porta potty sex workers, regressive laws on gay people and adultery, death penalty (Dubai) and death penalty, total abortion bans (US)?

Fascinating.

Do you really believe there are no rational reasons to ethically object to these things?

Yes they do
So carry on being a martyr
Tax is stupid high in this country and certainly doesn't align with my beliefs.
The tax system is unfair
How do you feel that billionaires evade tax?
The government and law makers evade tax
And yet you want average joe to serve his masters and betters?
That's how you keep the rich rich, my dear

I don't agree with billionaires and government etc evading tax either! I believe in changing things, not just following the example of the corrupt who evade their responsibilities, my dear.

Would people's answers be different if OP didn't say the "female friends" thing and instead said what a great committed husband he's been

It would be different if they were thinking about moving as a family unit. But any man who wants to go there on his own and leave his wife and kids is a bad ‘un. Different if it was for shorter periods of time, or in the forces. But just to prioritise money over family is pretty low.

Carla786 · 10/11/2025 14:54

WildLimePoet · 09/11/2025 21:47

Women’s rights in a country where you get called a bigot for actually insisting that a woman is an adult human female. What a joke.

If you care about women's rights, why do you call people idiots for having human rights concerns about Dubai & US?

Ot do you see nothing wrong with porta potty exploitation & exploitation of migrant women workers (Dubai), not to mention potential jail for lesbians, and total abortion bans & legal child marriage in parts of the US?

1457bloom · 10/11/2025 14:54

It’s no surprise that the rich want to leave. If you tax the rich too much they will, rightly, leave.

Nandina · 10/11/2025 14:55

Your husband wants to leave his family and live as a single man in Dubai, no doubt still keeping control of all the family money. I'd start keeping a close watch on what money and assets he has where and getting statements of this. I suspect you'll need it soon.

Or they will, like many do, pay their taxes. They will still be rich.
