Husband wants to move to dubai

1000 replies

Dilemma87 · 09/11/2025 20:37

My husband is a businessman in property and with the recent proposed tax changes and new rules putting limits on how long he can keep doing things from the UK, he’s now saying he needs to move to Dubai and operate from there.

We actually have some friends there, and his business partner is already based out there, so on paper it all sounds easy enough. His plan is to buy a second property in Dubai and move there by himself, while I stay here with the kids.

The problem is, the children are really settled one’s in high school and the other is due to start soon, so moving them just isn’t an option. He’s suggested that we (me and the kids) fly out to Dubai every school holiday to spend time with him.

The catch is, under his visa he can only be out of Dubai for 90 days a year, so he’d basically have to live there full-time.

AIBU to think this is just not going to work long-term? I can’t help but feel like this is the start of living completely separate lives.

It might be a good idea to get legal advice about how you’d even manage a divorce if it became necessary with him living in Dubai and being able to evade asset enforcement. Is he able to transfer assets or money to you in case there are any issues in Dubai ? (which I also think is an immoral regime to conduct business with or holiday in )

No, they don’t force anyone to come to their country and work for free. People go there on worker visas. It’s easy to repeat soundbites, but it helps to have facts.

Edited

So you think the workers are treated humanely?

It’s no surprise that the rich want to leave. If you tax the rich too much they will, rightly, leave.

Would it be 'too much' if we got good public services though? The problem is there's no value for money.

It always strikes me as odd that some people think poor migrants (who I agree we shouldn't take in) should go back and improve poverty and corruption in their countries but think it's fine for it rich to run away from here if they get taxed too much.

I think he should pay his fucking taxes in the UK. Especially if his family will be here anyway.
People bailing out because they may have to contribute a bit more are supremely selfish. And any man who would move to Dubai gives not one single fuck about women.

My sentiments exactly. He is willing to leave his family to avoid paying tax ... You have a great catch there

Thinking further down the line, I think that Dubai is not a signatory to The Hague convention

Neither is the USA

All those setting Dubai up to be morally superior should remember they are facilitating a definite genocide in Sudan currently.

Especially you @sunshinestar1986 , who have been very clear that you believe Israel are committing genocide. Why do you let Dubai off the hook?

Carla786 · 10/11/2025 14:44

So you think only the economically illiterate, stupid and raging would object to slave labour, sexual exploitation of porta potty sex workers, regressive laws on gay people and adultery, death penalty (Dubai) and death penalty, total abortion bans (US)?

Fascinating.

Do you really believe there are no rational reasons to ethically object to these things?

Not to mention the current genocide Dubai is facilitating in Sudan.

Carla786 · 10/11/2025 15:07

1457bloom · 10/11/2025 15:06

UK is complicit in genocide too in Gaza

There is no genocide in Gaza. Why do you think there is?

We are complicit in the Sudan genocide, though, they're using our weapons.

Then those people need to go and live on a desert island in the middle of the Pacific with their millions. I don't need anymore massive Range Rovers clogging up my airways with their smog and helping to cause potholes with drivers who don't want to pay towards sorting it all out and being part of society. Bye!

To be clear, I also know people who have never worked and expect the earth - they can do one as well!

you are so so naive to think that it is about massive Range rovers. Its not even about millions btw, high earnes paying maximum rates of tax here through PAYE are at 125K a year - this is not milions and will never get you to millions.

But regardless, let me explain why people may be wanting MORE money. This country is going to shit. The Tories pissed away 14 years, gave us Brexit, and mismanaged Covid. Yet the pension and benefits bill is ballooning and people still piss on high earners demanding that SOMEONE works more and SOMEONE pays more taxes so they can continue to have triple lock pension, PIP for ADHD and 'anxiety' and god knows what. In 10-20 years this country at this rate will be bankrupt, there will be NO pensions, NO healtcare to speak of and NO benefits to live on. Generally the rest of the world is not doing much better because we are approaching big economic changes.

More money allows people to invest them and ensure that THEY at least will have saved for their pensions, their carers, their and their kids' healthcare, their kids' universities, and that their kids get on the property ladder and maybe get ready made pensions or investments of their own.

There used to be a time when you could work in a modestly paid job and could count on a state pension, carers and healthcare, this is not goint to happen anymore. People either will have to work to move to the sectors which pay good money, or be very very poor and face a reality check.

Labour are in a very difficult position as many other governments are. Bad tax changes and high earner exodus started with Tories btw, not with Labour - because of Brexit and bad ROI on the high taxes in the form of public services.

You can think it and wish for anything. It’s just not how the world works. It’s proven that when you tax rich people beyond a certain level, they just leave, leaving you with even less tax in the system.

Which is actually quite stupid. Shooting self in the foot in the name of left wing ideology on tax.

If only there were no tax havens...

Yes, it's excellent.

BBC is crap often but BBC Eye is fantastic.

KoreanBeauty · 10/11/2025 15:26

He puts saving money on his business before his family, wants to move away from you and you say you don’t trust him with women. Sounds to me you should be asking yourself some questions OP, are you just with him because of money and lifestyle? Fair enough if you two are happy to live separate lives in different countries but I cannot comprehend how he’d want to live away from his children.
This all sounds like a very materialistic existence, prioritising cash and appearances over real love and human connection.

SatsumaDog · 10/11/2025 15:28

I think we need to accept that people will take this type of action if Labour continue to hammer the crap out of them with big tax increases. They will just leave.

Missohnoyoubetterdont · 10/11/2025 15:33

Dodgy Dubai and tax dodging aside, judging by your last post OP, it sounds like you don’t trust him at all. I suggest this won’t get any better when he’s out in Dubai by himself.

Birlngsnotnicepeople · 10/11/2025 15:35

Are you and your husband concerned about Human Rights at all?

Or just money.

Friendlygingercat · 10/11/2025 15:44

Tax is a legitimised form of theft and I deeply resent every £ that is conned out of me. As a childfree single I am sick of subsidising families and illegal migrants. If I were 20 years younger I would go myself without a second thought.

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 10/11/2025 15:45

It isn't too late!! I would absolutely encourage you to find somewhere else to live. Wink

Exactly. The way I've come to think about tax is that it's forcefully taken from you. You don't pay it, then the state will send men with guns to your house and throw you into a cage.

Nothankyov · 10/11/2025 15:51

Carla786 · 10/11/2025 14:06

How is the UK built on theft?

And our country is certainly not built on slave labour to the extent Dubai's is : what historical illiteracy.

I think the theft the poster might be referring to (could be wrong) is from the colonies - which is true. But also true of France, Portugal and Spain and this is not an extensive list. Sadly these countries have benefited from others labour in less than honourable ways. And the effects are still felt today.

Whilst I profoundly disagree with the UK tax system I can’t agree with it being a from of theft. If we have a fair society where tax is used to help people who need it (disable, unemployment, sick) I think that’s fair. It can happen to anyone losing their jobs and if you paid into the system we should be able to support those who are less fortunate. But not in it’s current format
