Amazon delivery driver in pub on duty.

More a What would you do than an AIBU.

Currently awaiting an Amazon delivery. It’s important as I need it for my business and need it today so products can be made to send out tomorrow. So I’m anxious for it to arrive.
I have been following the tracking of the van. I’m the next delivery and have been for over 35minutes. The van has not moved in that time and is in a car park outside a pub a couple of miles away. The pub is down a lane with no other properties or buildings down there and the tracking is showing it in the car park.

I’m not going to lie I’m pissed off because I need my parcel urgently and I’m waiting for a delivery man to finish his drink in the pub and actually bother to deliver it.
My question is would you report them to Amazon? I have screenshots of the tracking.

Wow! Who are you, the ‘break police’ ? What the heck gives you the right to say when and where he might stop for his break? Self entitled or what!

No one’s claiming the right to dictate breaks — I know drivers need them. I just found it unusual that a stop lasted over an hour at a dodgy pub in the arse end of nowhere that isn’t exactly a quiet spot, especially when my delivery was “next up” and I needed it urgently. That’s all — no self-entitlement, no policing, and definitely no comparisons to Hitler required.

I simply asked a question as to whether a pub is an appropriate place for a driver to take a break. Apparently according to Mumsnet it is. So there you go. It does however breach amazons code of conduct for their drivers

You are conflating 2 seperate issues here.
The first issue is valid if the package has not been delivered in the timeframe Amazon indicated it would be. It doesn’t matter where the driver is or what they do for this.

The second issue, you are coming across as severely unhinged. An employee can take a break wherever. You don’t know they are in a pub getting pissed. They may be in the carpark, eating their home packed meal and will then go in, have a soft drink and use the bathroom. Or, they may be having several soft drinks. We all know people who spend a lot of time in pubs for social aspect and don’t drink alcohol, maybe the driver is one of these. Or, maybe, they have an upset stomach and stopped to use the bathroom, and have to keep using it, and don’t feel confident enough to leave the carpark until whatever it is settles down. No idea how you believe any of these possible options breeches Amazon’s code of conduct for drivers?

You mentioned this driver parking up in a pub car park is against the Amazon rules of conduct.

Can you please post them so we can judge for ourselves.

Or do you need time on the toilet to retrieve them?

Wow! Thanks for the feedback! Driver is still at the pub. It’s now been 1hr and 29 minutes since we first looked at the tracking.
I take drink driving extremely seriously and any member of staff here would be in trouble if they were caught at the pub on a break. Incidentally we are now 2hrs outside the delivery window which ended at 6:15.

How the hell do you even know he's "drink driving" just because a tracker app says he's at a pub?
He could just be having a rest break and a pint of Coke for all you know.

You could probably do with a pint or two OP.

Just seen your posting about the driver being on one spot for 1 1/2 hours and well outside the delivery window. It could well indicate that the vehicle has broken down or been involved in an accident. Or for an evening delivery s/he may have run out of the time for which s/he is allowed to drive. In that case your delivery will be re-scheduled for tomorrow.

Bear in mind these schematics are not accurate. Once it appeared to show my drivers' van was in the middle of the lake in a nearby park! Ive also had Deliveroo food deliveries which appear to have come through the lake which is geographcally between the main road and the estate where I live.

Edited

To be fair we wouldn’t have thought anything of it at all had the delivery been within the window Amazon had sent us. We only checked it again because we needed to be able to receive it and we were running machinery that requires constant supervision. So it was actually quite important that we didn’t start up the second machine until it was delivered. It’s very frustrating when you’re waiting for something and literally cannot get on until it arrives. Normally it isn’t so much of an issue as there is usually more people in the building. So the frustration was born out of a need to get on and not being able to because the tracking constantly said 8 minutes away for 2.5hrs.

What, not the type of pub that sells drinks? 😕
Or are you just assuming that everyone who goes there has to be out on the piss or up for a fight or something 😕

Omg you were threatening to report him to Amazon! You did more than insinuate he was drink driving and would turn up worse for wear! Clearly now backtracking because ‘everyone’ has called you out on it!

It’s the type of place you don’t go unless you know them. And no I doubt many go there primarily for a drink. God knows how they still open and have a license. One of the owners has been inside several times for drugs and money laundering. The type of place that make you uncomfortable even driving past. It is very well known round here.
You wouldn’t stop there for a break and sit in the van.

@sosorryimnotsorry it’s the kind of place YOU wouldn’t go in. Doesn’t mean the driver wouldn’t. As others have mentioned, maybe he doesn’t know the area or doesn’t mind the appearance of the place so went in for a come/ to use the facilities? Maybe he broke down and was waiting for the AA? Maybe he had driven his allocated hours for the day and stopped there for whatever reason he (or she) wanted?

Posts like this are hilarious…

OP: AIBU?

Literally everyone: YES!

OP: ok but here’s why I’m not…

you have no idea if he was drinking alcohol or not. The fact that you wouldn’t go there to drink a soft drink is absolutely not conclusive proof and is in fact a pretty ridiculous argument.

Nevernonono · 07/11/2025 03:15

@sosorryimnotsorry where is the tracker showing him now? Still at the pub?

Marchitectmummy · 07/11/2025 03:18

Oh dear...You have no idea why he has stopped there. It could be any number of things for all you know he is now waiting for the RAC to come. Or could even live nearby and parked up there to go home.

Could be anything, and you have proven here why trackers are a terrible thing.

true he could have broken down. But in my experience we have always been notified of a significant change in the delivery schedule very promptly. This time nothing. There is no other properties within reasonable walking distance of the pub. It is down a little lane off a 70mph road. There is nowhere else to go bar the pub.

His phone/tracker could have died.
He might have just said fuck it, got drunk in the pub and handed his notice in.
Can't say I would blame him TBH. No one aspires to be an Amazon driver.

But in your experience people only go to this particular pub to drink alcohol and then drink drive?

Because you’re saying it’s a drinkers pub only, it’s not the sort of pub that you have a soft drink, it’s miles from anywhere.

I think your experiences are skewed because of the family members killed by drink driver van drivers and the fact that you’ve had van drivers turn up drunk to deliver to you. What happened when you reported these drivers? Did they get stopped? Arrested?

But that doesn’t mean they’re all going to do that. In fact it would be the vast minority!

Carlou · 07/11/2025 04:00

Good grief woman!!! Likely the poor bloke is delivering to said pub, nipped in to have a pee, and then sat in vehicle for half hour lunch break. Give the guy some space and loosen up!! Man you seem to think that people are doing this just to annoy you... leave the poor bloke alone.
