Sick of people on weight loss jabs saying you still have to “put in the work” with wl jabs

I’ve lost a fair amount of weight naturally this year. It’s been hellish as I’m fairly sure I have some sort of psychological reliance on comfort eating. I asked a couple of people I know if they recommend I go on WL jabs for the last stretch as I have lost momentum and am stagnating but could probably still do with losing another 20 pounds. They always say well “WL jabs still elan you have to put in the work. The fat doesn’t evaporate”. I’m sorry but WHAT. The injections are doing the hard bit for you. Ie stopping you from wanting to shovel large amounts of unhealthy food in your gob. It’s very annoying. I see this comment online all the time too.

I definitely do not have an issue with people on WL jabs. I would use them too but I am saving up for a mummy makeover so have chosen to save my money as a SAHM.

Very defensive comments imo!

But that’s nonsense, and just comes across as bitter. You can’t just eat whay you want and lose weight, the vast majority of people are actively dieting, counting cals, look at any thread on it. People have to focus on macros, ensure they eat protein, and where feasible work out. To ensure they lose fat and not muscle. Of course it’s easier, that’s the whole point, but that doesn’t mean it’s effortless and the fat melts off. There is a whole spectrum between hard and effortless.

At what point did my post say it was effortless??
It's far easier to use weight loss injections rather than try and lose weight the traditional way of diet and exercise alone - simple as that. If it wasn't, they wouldnt be in such high demand and nobody would use them! Nobody actually likes to count calories, watch what they eat, exercise etc - its shit and hard bloody work
Why on earth would I be bitter? If i wanted to use weight loss injections I could just go and pay for them like most people have done if they decide that this is the route for them.

All I know is I’ve overheard obese mums at school discussing using them and now they’re actually losing shed loads of weight very rapidly. Same for celebs like Gemma Collins who has never ever been able to lose weight ‘naturally’. They must be an easy fix in that sense, the weight seems to fly off everyone in no time at all.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 06/11/2025 13:41

You honestly do have to put in work with the weight loss jabs tbh 🥺, its no miracle cure

That's nonsense.

Friend of mine is on them. At dinner she ate one spoon of rice and ate the falafel out of the middle of her wrap and left the rest. I polished all of mine off and could have eaten more.

Before the jabs she would have eaten the lot and got dessert. The jabs do the work for you to the extent she couldnt eat half of what was on her plate.

Right exactly. Isn’t it great that the percentage of the population who have always been unable to lose weight, are now succeeding? :)

outofofficeagain · 07/11/2025 10:01

Genuinely what are you sick of? You lost weight and it was a struggle? You would take WLI if they weren’t so expensive?

You say you don’t have an issue with them but clearly you want some special badge to separate yourself from the ‘cheaters’

very defensive comments imo

OrlandointheWilderness · 07/11/2025 10:02

I’ve lost 9 stone on MJ. I’m 41, I’ve struggled my entire life with it. Lost 6 stone through lockdown and put it back on. The last year I’ve constantly been thinking about food on MJ - but in a completely different way. I’m training for ultra marathons and running 5 times a week - I have to plan food, think about fuelling constantly. What I’m eating day to day, what calorie requirements I have today and the quality of those calories.
but yes - it made losing the weight a fuck ton easier FOR ME. That’s sort of the point! Financially it isn’t cheap, but then the regular takeaways and wine/shit food I was wasting money on wasn’t either.
I’ve done it the hard way for decades. I’ll take an easier route happily!

For some. Not for me. I have chosen a sustainable level. For the first 3 ish stone I lost around 2lb a week, occasionally more. Now I am losing around 0.5-1lb a week and have been at that rate for months now. Losing the first 4 stone wasn’t even noticeable to others so when they did see it of course they tho it hit it had been fast, but I had actually been working at it for bloody ages

OrlandointheWilderness · 07/11/2025 10:04

Oh @Dissappearedupmyownarsethrough losing all the weight on MJ I have constantly counted calories, watched what I eat and exercised! For the reason I posted above. If you don’t do those things then what is the point - it’s a tool to help you improve your health and for me that is gaining an understanding of nutrition and improving my fitness too.

Here for the intrigue of a "mummy makeover" ...
perhaps you should do the work yourself OP, fairly sure you can paint your own nails/ cut your own hair/ make your own clothes.
You should really do it the "proper" way so you can remain on your high horse.

Ah but it does affect them… it means they lose the perceived competitive advantage that they’ve had over fat people for all these years, and reduces their opportunities to feel smug and superior!

Yep!

This isn't the reason for all the nonsense around them, but it's the reason for some of it. Happened to me just a few posts ago, with someone grandly assuring me I couldn't possibly be on them for life. No reason was offered, obviously, but then it subsequently became clear that it was simply her not wanting it to be possible.

But the best way to deal with this sort of thing is to laugh at it.

So people taking prescribed medication to lower their weight, improve their diabetes, cancer, heart risk and ease pressure on joints - cheating and open for judgement and criticism for not trying hard enough

Having general anaesthetic for a purely cosmetic procedure with no health benefits whatsoever- totally fine.

Love that for you.

Not Egyptian mummy wrappings? I’m disappointed.

I'm afraid to say I do agree with you. Everyone always says it stops the food noise. On the rare day when I don't think about food all day long, I find it very easy not to overeat. If I felt that way daily, I'd find it much easier to say no to biscuits, chocolates and second helpings. I think it's great that they exist, and I'm happy for people who are losing weight on them, but let's not beat around the bush, it's removing the most difficult element of weight loss. I'm only slightly overweight, so cannot qualify for them but my weight has been a constant battle for my entire life. I'd love to be able to use weight loss injections and shut out the constant desire for food.

Same. I weigh and log all of my food. Exercise 5x per week (yoga, Pilates, HIIT, 2x weight training). I’m fighting menopausal weight gain and I am always hungry and always thinking about food. I’ve tried Juniper and another site, but I don’t qualify.

Crikeyalmighty · 07/11/2025 10:31

I do think each to their own having used them for 6 weeks and then lost reasonably well without - I’m not convinced myself That being suppressed to the level of eating like a toddler is very good for you in the long term in the cases of those people who do eat like this because of suppression - although I appreciate it will help with any ‘weigh related’ health issues . in my case as I never got above 2.5 that wasn’t the case. I think it’s more about changing your habits and ideally finding the level that works ‘for you’ - yes it’s great for weight loss to think ‘I can’t eat much’ but can you sustain that long term? Unless you plan on taking forever more of course. In my case mounjaro gave me a very good kick start , as although I could have probably eaten around the same if a little less , spending so much focussed me and I changed to Greek yoghurt and berries or ham and hard boiled eggs for breakfast, soup and a banana or a John west fish lunch grabber type thing at lunch and a slightly smaller portion of something home made and protein based at night, chicken stroganoff with green beans and cauliflower rice etc

before I would have had a ham and cheese toastie for breakfast, or a croissant and some toast, sandwich plus a banana and maybe crisps at lunch and a bigger dinner of the same with ‘proper rice’ ( and lots of it)

I also massively upped water, green tea and only drink americanos with oat milk once a day - and I don’t snack at all. No cakes, no biscuits, no crisps

I have lost weight, haven’t lost muscle or hair - and I’m 63 - I had convinced myself I couldn’t lose weight and was probably only eating around 1600 to 1800 cals a day - sadly I needed to go lower, quite a bit lower and it was about finding out what I could eat to regularly keep me around 1200 to 1400 cals a day( maybe 1800 at weekend to allow for some wine )

lol, right?

Taking a medication prescribed for obesity? NO WAY

Putting yourself at risk (no doubt in turkey) and risking your children growing up without a mum? Fine

ginislife · 07/11/2025 10:46

@MinnilisciousI'm with you. I lost 20lbs with barely no effort on MJ. I was within 3lbs of target when the price went up. I’m eating no differently now without it yet the 3lbs won’t go. There’s something in MJ that melts fat 😂😂

5128gap · 07/11/2025 10:52

Personally I'd take natural weight loss over the expense, side effects and potential longer term health risks of jabs all day long. It's by far the easier option if you can do it imo. Which luckily, like you, I could.
I genuinely don't get all this bickering and my weight loss 'journey' was harder than yours competitive nonsense. Weight loss is personal. What other people are doing has no impact on your weight or life, and vice versa.
I think people would do a lot better to concentrate on their own bodies and choices and stop having conversations about weight loss that annoy them.

It’s doesn’t though, you lose weight through being n a calorie deficit. Only. So you must have been burning more than you needed to maintain. Either that or you need to see a doctor for unexplained weight loss. MJ does not melt fat.

JustSawJohnny · 07/11/2025 11:10

I'm on mounjaro but it only surpresses my eating for a couple of days, not to the point of not being able to eat or snack either, and then I feel normal levels of hunger again.

If I don't exercise and eat like a flea I don't lose.

I see others on it and the weight is just falling off them.

This is not the case for us all.

You can like that or lump it, because it's a fact.

TheChosenTwo · 07/11/2025 11:13

I’ll hold my hands up and say I’ve found it very easy with WLI compared to previous efforts to lose the weight.
Not really had any side effects that have made me tired or ill, much easier to not graze/snack/make 4 slices of toast as a snack.
Where I’ve had to put the work in has been around protecting muscle mass and increasing my strength overall. But yeah, I’ve personally found it pretty easy.

whatcanthematterbe81 · 07/11/2025 11:26

You’re right. Absolutely easy as pie for me. I didn’t want to eat, didn’t think about it until my stomach told me I need to eat something, then I ate something tiny as it’s all I could manage. I guess I’m putting the work in now I’m off them but to get here I didn’t need to

How long have you been off them? Are you managing to maintain?
Did you loose a bit extra to give yourself a margin for gaining a bit?

I’ve been off for 6 months and maintaining fine. I’ve decided to stop weighing myself as I’m now focusing on firming everything up and hitting the gym. I’m very good now but do have some treats but very rarely. I’m reprogrammed. To be honest I was one of the naughty ones who didn’t quite qualify so I embellished a little to get prescribed it. I was on the cusp so don’t really feel bad about that.

I think this is a major factor in being able to maintain with and without WLI as well. Starting from a ‘needed to embellish to get them’ point and staring from a ‘BMI over 50’ (myself) is very very different and I do think maintaining will be easier for people who have never been morbidly obese and suffered quite a few potentially serious health conditions as a result.
