Sick of people on weight loss jabs saying you still have to “put in the work” with wl jabs

I’ve lost a fair amount of weight naturally this year. It’s been hellish as I’m fairly sure I have some sort of psychological reliance on comfort eating. I asked a couple of people I know if they recommend I go on WL jabs for the last stretch as I have lost momentum and am stagnating but could probably still do with losing another 20 pounds. They always say well “WL jabs still elan you have to put in the work. The fat doesn’t evaporate”. I’m sorry but WHAT. The injections are doing the hard bit for you. Ie stopping you from wanting to shovel large amounts of unhealthy food in your gob. It’s very annoying. I see this comment online all the time too.

I definitely do not have an issue with people on WL jabs. I would use them too but I am saving up for a mummy makeover so have chosen to save my money as a SAHM.

Very defensive comments imo!

This!!! I can’t believe this is the first comment mentioning the pancreas. People have NO idea what they are doing to their bodies. Absolutely nuts how people care more about losing weight than they do about getting cancer

Can you link any sources to back this up please?

icouldholditwithacobweb · 06/11/2025 17:34

For SOME people they take away your appetite - didn't do it for me, didn't reduce food noise or cravings, didn't make it much easier to make healthier choices, in no way stopped me wanting to eat.

I wish WLI worked for me like they work for some lucky people, but it's just not how it went.

AmythestBangle · 06/11/2025 17:38

"Absolutely nuts how people care more about losing weight than they do about getting cancer"

You can care about both. Obesity is a risk factor for many forms of cancer. It also causes or contributes to many other diseases, some of which are fatal.

NikkiPotnick · 06/11/2025 16:01

One, you don't have to come off them. Two, on a population level most people who were previously obese and lose weight through diet will put the weight back on.

Yeah, staying on jabs forever will be great for your health… of course you will eventually need to come off them.

Goldleafcat · 06/11/2025 17:56

I agree @Plind

I am currently LOLing at 3 people I know (1 man, 2 women - all aged 45 to 50,) who have been 5-6 stone overweight since around 20-23 y.o. Miraculously, over this past year and a half, they have dropped around 6 stone in weight, as if by magic, after 25 to 30 years of yo-yo dieting, and never losing more than 2 stone (which they always regained.)

All deny using the weight loss injections. It's laughable because it's so obvious that they have used them. They are so smug about their weight loss too. Bet they won't be so smug when they stop the jabs and the weight piles back on.

Well, aren’t you a sweetheart. Can’t you just be happy for them?

Also, why do you think you’re entitled to know what medications other people are taking?

Could you provide your expert medical opinion as to why?

I dont see why. I'm prescribed it as a diabetic. They haven't taken me off other diabetic medicine I've been on since 2000.

I take it that’s your opinion as a medical professional?

Or are you just Maureen from accounts who’s either a) overweight but can’t afford WLI or b) skinny and can’t bear the thought of the awful fatties losing weight.

As the original poster, I have shed 20% of my weight doing it the old fashioned way - watching what I eat and upping the exercise

Shifting the weight was actually the easy bit, its been keeping it off ( 2 years now ) that's the hard part

I never even knew the expression "food noise" until I joined here. I thought everyone thought about food all the time

I think about food all my waking hours, what can I eat that I like, really fancy, be healthy, give me the macros I need - when I never want to see another bowl of fruit and yoghurt again?

Im fighting not going to McD's to try some of the world food range, I dont even like McD's but I see the adverts, I want to try. But I know if I step inside the door Id order one of everything, then have to spend the rest of the week cutting back everywhere else

Some habits are so ingrained. It's like if I dont take a drink, I dont look one. If I take just one drink, the bottle in going down the neck. Its the same with chocolate, crisps, bread, butter - if I dont start I can keep away

So I have to shop wisely - I dont buy my triggers. Doesn't stop me wanting them

So making the decision to get off the Yo Yo dieting bandwagon, means I have to deny myself a lot - and denying myself every day is hard. But to be honest, the longer I go before cave ins, the less damage is done - I tend to feel sick and bloaty pretty quick if I eat junk

If an injection stopped that want, made it easier, I would take it like a shot. I dont think it's taking the easy route , not at all. Hopefully the new research into tablets may be that magic bullet for me

Until that is found I have to live as I do. Planning my meals, stopping eating as soon as I feel full, making meals high protein, high fibre , full of veg and legumes , planning trips out to town around meal times so Im not tempted, no snacking

Still its not so bad, I can now at least go out an exercise, joints arent so sore, blood pressure is manageable, and best of all I can wear what I want, rather then what fits

I am the same. I think about food all the time. I saw the word Yo Yo in your post, and immediately started craving for mint chocolate biscuits. It is not fair.

Plind · 06/11/2025 14:01

I don’t begrudge people using them but why can’t some people on the jabs just acknowledge that the hardest part of weight loss (food cravings as a result of deprivation? Is basically taken out of the equation.

Im not jealous. I’d be on them in a heartbeat but im a SAHM and have chosen to spend my disposable income elsewhere

OP, I’m shocked by the ridiculous responses and by people feeling offended by what you have said. I would have thought it was common sense that the medication specifically does something to make people eat a lot less, otherwise why take it in the first place if it only has a negligible effect on the body?

In my case, WL jabs worked brilliantly. I started off with a BMI of 31 and now I have a BMI of 21. In the beginning, I just ate what I normally would eat, which was healthy enough but it also included junk food. The difference was that I was eating a lot less of it. I eventually improved my diet to include more protein and fibre because I felt a little weak from muscle loss. No matter what I ate, I still kept on losing weight. I still ate all my favourite junk foods around the time of my period and still kept on losing weight because the medication improved my insulin sensitivity.

Those who say that you still need to diet and exercise are probably morbidly obese and need to lose tons of weight. They’re probably miffed at losing slowly and having a long way to go and having to increase their dosage because the lower doses don’t work on them anymore.

You sound like the ideal patient who can remain on the lowest dose and still lose lots of weight. I stayed on 5mg of MJ and lost 30% of my starting weight.

Go for it if you ever get the chance. Or stay on your current weight and wait for these drugs to become cheaper and come out in pill form.

It MUST be easier on the WL jabs else why do people pay for them??

CinnamonBuns67 · 06/11/2025 18:15

I've took them, they really aren't a miracle worker and you don't lose that much if you don't put the work in. Maybe for some it works like magic with barely any effort but not always.

MaidOfSteel · 06/11/2025 18:16

OP, I lost 2.5 stone through my own efforts and then ran out of steam. So I tried Mounjaro and it helped me lose another 2 stone. It was great. All that food noise was gone. If you want to try it, ignore the naysayers and give it a go.

Barnbrack · 06/11/2025 18:22

I've lost 2 stone this year on slimming world, one sister has lost 5 stone on wli but not changing her diet other than eating less quantities while my other sister used wli, ate regardless of not feeling hungry and lost nothing. I'd say it helps you eat LESS but ideally I'd want to do alongside a long term eating plan change so once the wli stop your habits have also changed

Ah, so that's what motivates you to tell people you've never met that they can't possibly remain for a life on a drug that can be prescribed for life.

Ah so you’re trying to lose weight the natural way and are salty that people are using WLI and finding it easier than you.

Now where did the idea that you can’t stay on them for life come from? Extensive research?

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 06/11/2025 18:43

While there’s only about twenty years worth of evidence, there’s no evidence that long term use is a problem. You can find systematic reviews looking at this. There is a great deal of evidence that being fat for the rest of my life will do me harm.

If the benefits i have seen over the past year continue then staying on WLI forever will be great for my health. I’m not sure why you think otherwise.

HollyhockDays · 06/11/2025 18:57

Interesting. I’ve lost four stone on the jabs but put minimal effort in. I just ate a lot less.

ColinOfficeTrolley · 06/11/2025 18:57

Plind · 06/11/2025 13:44

Well a lot of people say it removes food noise which is what is THE main issue for comfort eaters like myself

I thought your issue was psychological?

I'll be staying on MJ for as long as I can afford to. The other benefits are so good too. Not just the weight loss.

CareerChange24 · 06/11/2025 19:18

I’m on day 3 of starting mounjaro. Still trying to read as much as I can about the medication, but it’s been transformative already. So I’m hopeful it will only get better, I’ve consumed 500 calories and I feel zero hunger. My BMI is 37 so this medication is necessary for me - I’m lucky I’m not already diabetic etc. I tried getting a personal trainer, tried slimming world, this is giving me hope that it’s possible to lose the weight now. It’s a shortcut, easy option that I’m currently excited by. Of course I really do worry about the side effects, but I think that being severely obese is far more worrying.

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 06/11/2025 19:22

I think some people aren’t reading the replies

the jabs CAN make it easier for people to lose weight, most (not all) people get fuller faster, don’t have food noises and don’t get hungry….or a variation of those

that makes it easier not to eat and therefore easier to lose weight

it can also help with insulin resistance for things like PCOS

but you still need to eat in a calorie deficit and ideally exercise so people are putting the work in…its just for a lot of people it is so so much easier
