Sick of people on weight loss jabs saying you still have to “put in the work” with wl jabs

I’ve lost a fair amount of weight naturally this year. It’s been hellish as I’m fairly sure I have some sort of psychological reliance on comfort eating. I asked a couple of people I know if they recommend I go on WL jabs for the last stretch as I have lost momentum and am stagnating but could probably still do with losing another 20 pounds. They always say well “WL jabs still elan you have to put in the work. The fat doesn’t evaporate”. I’m sorry but WHAT. The injections are doing the hard bit for you. Ie stopping you from wanting to shovel large amounts of unhealthy food in your gob. It’s very annoying. I see this comment online all the time too.

I definitely do not have an issue with people on WL jabs. I would use them too but I am saving up for a mummy makeover so have chosen to save my money as a SAHM.

Very defensive comments imo!

To add my opinion on the op. I’ve been on mj for just over a year and have lost nearly 7st. It’s definitely been easier than previous attempts at dieting and I’ve sustained the lifestyle change successfully for much longer than I’ve ever managed before. But part of that is that I’ve never felt deprived in my time on the drug. I’ve never felt like I’ve missed out on some delicious food my family were eating whilst I had something low fat and low carb. I just don’t want to eat that stuff now. I’m not bothered about pasta or bread or any of the things I loved and ate with gay abandon before. I’m slimmer than I’ve ever been before in my adult life and through that I’ve developed a love for the gym - seeing my body get stronger and fitter.
So yes, the jabs do make it easier - otherwise we wouldn’t be paying for them. But in my opinion they’ve levelled the playing field for me. I could never understand people who said they just ate for fuel, not for fun - that was so incredibly alien to me. Food was my life. Now, I just eat so that I take in what I need to.
But I recognise that the drug doesn’t work the same way for everyone so this is just my experience.

Wakeywake · 06/11/2025 19:44

Yes, you've still got to put the work in, but it's so, so much easier. It's not that much the fact they reduce your appetite (let's face it, we don't reach for the chocolate because we are hungry), but your interest in food diminishes so you're no longer tempted to eat crap. But there's nothing preventing you from eating chocolate and sitting down all day, so you still have to put in the effort to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

But if you only have 20lb to lose, you're better off not going for WLI, I found coming off the medication hard psychologycally (I put a bit of weight back on, not that much and I'm still slim, but seeing the scales go up not down was very hard, considering how much effort I'm putting into not eating junk now).

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 06/11/2025 20:14

wakey

i have lost a stone of so very very slowly and i did not have any intention of getting into my bmi, i think i can probably maintain what i am now…but im still annoyed when i get on the scales and I’ve maintained for the 4th week 😀

Yeah, staying on jabs forever will be great for your health… of course you will eventually need to come off them.

Well I’m staying on as it is great for my health, the benefits past weight loss, from insulin and blood sugar management, the reduction in certain cancers, the improvement in cardio vascular, kidney and liver health, the reduction in inflammation, the regeneration of our cells when that inflammation goes, and now even new findings of potential reduction in areas like dementia.

And not least the benefits of staying effortlessly slim for ever more. No more obesity and risks to my health without it, no more mental struggles round weight, feeling deprived, going without, worrying about the scales. Feeling great in my clothes, being fit.

its just a synthetic peptide, one we produce nsturally but produce less of as we age, one which has huge benefits to us. It’s approved by the regulatory authorities for life time usage, and I think we’d all bet good money they know more than you.

if I can afford it, why they hell would I come off.

ToeJob · 06/11/2025 23:46

Bet they won't be so smug when they stop the jabs and the weight piles back on.

People never just plain old PUT weight back on after giving up Mounjaro, do they? They always pile it back on.

You can smell the judgement like month-old haddock.

TigTails · 06/11/2025 23:47

A mummy makeover 🤭🤭

But it suppresses your appetite which 99% of the issue…

Im not claiming you can stuff your face and still lose weight but it stops the food cravings

You are right - well in my case and my honest friends and colleagues
It suppresses the appetite massively so allows better choices, leading to weight loss and that in turn probably helps the motivation for sticking to a gym exercise routine that previously would have been.
The funny thing is once you’re on them and in the swing you do start to feel strong and motivated and like you’re really doing it off your own back and it feels a huge accomplishment

The minute that suppression wears off tho the idea of the next pen being delayed or god forbid unavailable for a few weeks would be horror inducing as deep down we all know the truth …

Lavenderosemary · 06/11/2025 23:57

Im on them. Yes, they definitely do the work 😁 I just dont think about food often at all. Dieting has never been so easy!

StrongLikeMamma · 06/11/2025 23:59

Plind · 06/11/2025 13:44

Well a lot of people say it removes food noise which is what is THE main issue for comfort eaters like myself

so go on the jabs! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Mondaytuesdayhappydays · 07/11/2025 00:02

Nandina · 06/11/2025 13:55

OP, you just sound bitter and resentful that you can't afford the jabs.

Having discovered their magic - I would be devastated if I couldn’t afford them

if they had come out when I was a young g mum back in the day struggling with my weight it would have killed me knowing they were so close but so far away..

I can happily afford them now in middle age with kids grown up, good salary etc and I am thankful everyday as they have totally changed my life

I’d happily pay double if need be for the rest of my life

I’m 5 stone down with 2 to go and am eternally grateful I can access this life changing drug

EconomyClassRockstar · 07/11/2025 00:14

I just think to each their own on this. It's far more healthy to take the jabs and not be 5 stone overweight. My SIL is on them and I couldn't be happier for her because I know she's been entirely miserable with being obese, as well as really struggling with the very real side effects of being overweight. Anything that helps her is a good thing in my mind.

JMSA · 07/11/2025 00:18

Yes, it undoubtedly helps. But it’s not like it melts the fat away! You still have to overhaul your diet, eating more protein and at a calorie deficit.

We don’t even just pile weight back on apparently- we pile weight back on and more! Always said with palpable glee…

Just be warned - a family member has been taking them and she now looks 10 years older. Her face is wrinkled around the jaw and her hair is really thin.

I’d continue the “hard work” without them if I were you.

Yes, and we don’t overeat. We “shovel large portions of unhealthy food in our gobs” or “stuff our faces”

and don’t get me started on the oh it’s so ageing thing.

jealousy really is utterly cringe worthy at times.

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 07/11/2025 07:08

Dramatic and / or rapid weight loss is often aging and can cause hair loss, it doesn’t matter how you do it. Better that your family member is at a healthy weight and a bit jowly, than unhealthily overweight, no?

Just to counter this, 3 x friends/family are taking them and they look fantastic. Easily 10 years younger. Blood pressure down. Cholesterol down. Aches & pains gone or much improved.

I look older too. Probably because until I reached my late 40s my face was seriously padded out with fat. I probably would have looked like this at my age had I never been fat but it’s been rapid since losing weight so it seems drastic. The truth is if you are healthy weight and your face is wrinkled - that’s normal.

edited to add

it would have made no difference to my face if I lost weight without using WLI, losing 7 stone was never going to result in me still looking younger than I am.

I look fab, even if I say so myself 😉

Did those comments make you feel better about yourself? What is so missing in your life that you feel you have to make posts like this?

Losing a lot of weight, whatever the method, often results in more lines showing (because they aren’t padded out with fat anymore), likewise losing hair. It isn’t caused directly by weight loss jabs, it’s caused by losing weight.

MsRumpole · 07/11/2025 08:16

Plind · 06/11/2025 14:01

I don’t begrudge people using them but why can’t some people on the jabs just acknowledge that the hardest part of weight loss (food cravings as a result of deprivation? Is basically taken out of the equation.

Im not jealous. I’d be on them in a heartbeat but im a SAHM and have chosen to spend my disposable income elsewhere

It's not taken out of the equation, OP. This is your fantasy, which to be fair is shared by lots of other people. I still struggle not to overeat and actually find myself craving sugary sweets in a way that I literally didn't before MJ, they were never previously my thing. For me, the cravings suppression is only operative for the first couple of days after I inject. After that the main incentive not to eat is that it slows down my digestion so much that overeating is really uncomfortable and makes me nauseous or sick, as well as giving me terrible acid indigestion. It's not that I don't want to overeat, it's that I experience horrible consequences if I do. My weight loss is glacially slow. I am currently debating whether I want to keep on with them at all because whilst they could be said to help a bit there are massive downsides.

It's really annoying to hear someone who hasn't been on them and isn't going to go on them (by the sound of it) ranting about how easy they make everything because they don't. This idea you have that they turn you into someone who doesn't want to eat has certainly not been true for me.

It turns off some of the food noise certainly, but not all of it. There is certain amount of willpower needed.

Ireolu · 07/11/2025 08:23

I have seen people on top doses of both ozempic and mounjaro not lose any weight.

Gosh, how awful. I bet she’s looking forward to piling that weight back on once she’s off the jabs - much better to be at risk of a number of weight related illnesses than risk the absolute horror of looking older…

I know, apparently the 2 worst things in life are 1) having no willpower and 2) looking older!
