I bought 3 tickets to a show this weekend, for me & DD + a friend of her choice. I paid for them all (£50+ each) but told the mum of invited friend that I didn’t want any contribution. All good.

Now the friend unfortunately can’t make it (legit reason). I mentioned that I’d probably be able to sell ticket as it’s very popular, so no worries (as it happens, another friend has accepted a late invite).

The mum of original invitee asked me to transfer the cost of the ticket to her, so she can treat her DD for missing out.

Eh??

I mean that’s batshit, right?

Please reply

What promise would that be?

This gets my vote. Succinct and ‘crisp’.

After you send her a calm and rational response add the line
Do you like chicken?

Mess with her mind

😂

Possibly a bit boring for you all, but I just replied, “we invited X to the show, she couldn’t make it. What promise do you think I have broken??”.

I did take a big swig of wine beforehand but it didn’t seem to help my creativity. Drink responsibly folks.

no judgment on creative writing OP, the people just want answers from the chicken fucker in the next 40 minutes! 😂

YerArseInParsley · 06/11/2025 20:19

I can't actually believe someone can be this bold. She's a total brass neck.

GrooveArmada · 06/11/2025 20:20

I'd go with:

"Let me clarify: your daughter received an invitation to an event I paid for, and you didn't have to pay me back. She can't make it. You now ask me to double my contribution and pay you for your child not attending, i.e.: to pay twice, essentially? I think you're mistaken in your maths."

GrooveArmada · 06/11/2025 20:21

Also what a charmer, I'd stay well clear of her at the school gates and forever (and ever)! And tell all mum friends 😄

Manyroadss · 06/11/2025 20:22

Wow op!! This mum is a nutter. And you were trying to do something kind!
Reminds me of Judge Judy's famous phrase: no good deed goes unpunished!

Zippidydoodah · 06/11/2025 20:22

Oh my golly gosh. What an absolute weirdo! I’m loving the replies 😆

They walk among us……

Politicians247UnderwearExtinguishingService · 06/11/2025 20:25

Does the girl have any siblings? If so, I wouldn't put it past the mum to be claiming that, now she's 'established' that you 'owe' her £50 for a replacement treat for her daughter, it'll be entirely your fault when her daughter's little sister gets upset that she can't enjoy the treat as well... so really, morally, you actually owe her £100 - especially as it was so clearly your fault that you made her older daughter an offer that she turned down!

I was just going to post that I'd love to see this CF explaining her reasoning to Judge Judy!

Starlin · 06/11/2025 20:26

They do live amongst us. I've had similar with a cinema trip for my DD and in the end had to be extremely blunt and used the phrase "get to fuck" for the first time ever.

GabriellaMontez · 06/11/2025 20:27

Cant wait for the response to this...

Did you just see the amazing deal KFC are doing?

You pre-order a Chicken Fucker Bargain bucket, you don’t have to pay for it, it’s full of CF wings, boneless dippers, coated in all the secret herbs and spices. Fries, slaw, gravy…it costs £50! Pay on collection. You can even go in, say you don’t want it, but you’d like £50 to go to Nando’s!!

I’m rather disappointed that there isn’t a Zinger Stacker and I’ll be asking for a refund

Izzywizzy85 · 06/11/2025 20:28

I am FLOORED op. You’ve handled it brilliantly though!

Flissty · 06/11/2025 20:28

This is - and I know OP said it in the first post - absolutely batshit.

MissMontague19 · 06/11/2025 20:29

I've always wanted to use the old mumsnet reply 'are you on glue?'...this feels like the perfect scenario!

I cannot believe this thread. I do believe it but I cannotttt how do these people exist in society so shamelessly 😂

Velvetgoldmine · 06/11/2025 20:31

How about 'to clarify, I paid 150 for the 3 tickets but as your daughter couldn't come you would like me to pay you £50. This means I would have paid 200 in total and in effect would have paid your daughter for not coming along. I think that you have this the wrong way around and in fact according to your math, this means that you now owe me 200 to cover all my expenses in relation to this event, as your daughter was unable to attend. Shall I send you my bank details? '

GAJLY · 06/11/2025 20:32

Just read all of your updates! Unbelievable cf! I honestly thought...misunderstanding. But nope, she wants £50 to console her daughter with, for not accepting your invitation!!! I'm positively annoyed on your behalf. Think you're going to have to stop inviting her daughter anywhere, and possibly block the mum.

Hollieandtheivie · 06/11/2025 20:33

I'm doing a stupid thing and trying to understand CF's reasoning...does she think that the ticket belonged to her daughter so if it gets given to someone else, her daughter should have the price of it? She'd be wrong if that's where she's coming from. I can't fathom trying to benefit from someone trying to do something nice for my child.

BaronessBomburst · 06/11/2025 20:34

@Dontbeme
we have Mumsnet gin! Gin

Dontbeme · 06/11/2025 20:35

"My daughter is so upset we have had to cancel, please transfer 150 quid as YOU have broken your promise that your DD would attend"

Chuck it right back at her OP

Tapsthemic · 06/11/2025 20:35

Omg OP - to put this into perspective my SIL gifted my DD a ticket to a big show for her Xmas present, but on the day couldn’t make it as she had a vomiting bug. One of her cousin’s pals took the ticket last minute and had a free night out, or maybe paid my SIL for it, I dunno. I’m just glad the ticket didn’t go to waste, and I made sure my DD didn’t feel like she had missed out, so everyone was happy in the end. It’s obviously not ideal, but we make the best of things xx
