I bought 3 tickets to a show this weekend, for me & DD + a friend of her choice. I paid for them all (£50+ each) but told the mum of invited friend that I didn’t want any contribution. All good.

Now the friend unfortunately can’t make it (legit reason). I mentioned that I’d probably be able to sell ticket as it’s very popular, so no worries (as it happens, another friend has accepted a late invite).

The mum of original invitee asked me to transfer the cost of the ticket to her, so she can treat her DD for missing out.

Eh??

I mean that’s batshit, right?

“You’ve paid for nothing, you’re owed nothing, you’re getting nothing.” That would be my reply.

This reminds be of the Monty Python sketch....

What have you got? NOTHING 🤣🤣🤣

PurpleFlower1983 · 06/11/2025 18:18

Wow! Just wow!

She just replied, “the money for the ticket you gave to X.”

Erm. Quite curt I thought.

That there are people out there like this is unbelievable...
I still don't understand how she thinks you owe her daughter money. How does her mind work?

Appenzell · 06/11/2025 18:19

She is totally bonkers.

Sound to me like she thinks you bought the ticket for her daughter, therefore the ticket then became her daughter's property. Batshit.

Hi there X mum! 👋
Your daughter was invited to accompany my daughter and myself to a show.
For free.
So sorry that she couldnt make it.
Dd has invited another pal, that way the ticket won't go to waste.

Dont worry, you don't owe me any money for cancelling.

Have a great weekend.
@JeffTheSquirrel

The problem is you can't reason with such people. You might as well just not bother replying because she will never understand why nobody else on god's green earth would think she is entitled to that £50. Such is the way CF's navigate life. Was there no hint of such brazen CFery before this though? She can't possibly interact normally with fellow mums on a daily basis.

This was my thought too, she (CF) doesn't get it and I'm not sure any explanation will work on her.

Hanging on for the next update.....🍿

SummerSolstice25 · 06/11/2025 18:22

‘Sorry, are you asking me to just give you some money as a gift? 😂’

That should let her know how laughable/embarrassing her request is!

I am shocked by this update hahhahaha

TidyCyan · 06/11/2025 18:24

Trouble is this CF is likely to reply "Oh, so because X is ill/has to go to a funeral/insert real reason, she misses out on a £50 ticket?"

Well, yes. That's life.

TheHillIsMine · 06/11/2025 18:25

Figcherry · 06/11/2025 11:26

I’d be replying that the money is already earmarked for a pre show dinner for you and dd.

Daft suggestion. It's @JeffTheSquirrel money . She doesn't need to justify how she spends it or why she's not giving this mother £50 for free.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 06/11/2025 18:26

She's clearly batshit. As others have said I'd respond
'I didn't give your DD a ticket, I asked if she wanted to come along with us. As she couldn't come, we invited another friend'

And I wouldn't give a shit if she took offence at that.

IsIroningEssential · 06/11/2025 18:27

Well this has been enlightening. My daughter was invited to a birthday party this weekend and can't go, so I'll be sure to get the parent to transfer me how much it would have cost for her to attend so I can take her another time - this is brilliant news 😃

😆 🤣 😂 make sure she covers the cost of the missing slice of birthday cake as well 😆

viques · 06/11/2025 18:28

Dear Friend, Little Friend was invited as a guest, I am sorry she can no longer come, but luckily we have been able to invite another friend to come as our guest in her place. I hope little friend feels better soon.

”The ticket is thankfully being used by another friend and we aren’t expecting payment for it, as we didn’t with you. So unfortunately there isn’t any monetary amount I can pass on. Hopefully DDfriend can look forward to joining us another time”!

Last part optional. CF!!

WhamBamThankU · 06/11/2025 17:23

Maybe she forgot for a moment she isn’t on a 90s tv game show that offered cash alternatives?

Or she'd get a speedboat instead, a la Bullseye.

Erm. Quite curt I thought.

"I think you are confused. We didn't give a ticket to X. We asked X if she would like to join us and use the spare ticket that I bought. Sadly she cannot, so we are inviting a different friend. I didn't want you or X to feel guilty about being unable to accept, but the ticket was never given to X so it's a bit weird to ask for money for it. I am sure we will invite X to something else next time there is an opportunity."

HermioneWeasley · 06/11/2025 18:30

This needs to go in classics

Cherrysoup · 06/11/2025 18:31

Cor, the friend’s mum has some cojones!

Harleyband · 06/11/2025 18:31

I think I'd just be equally curt and reply back "No. I won't send you any money"

Do you think it works for adults too? My friends birthday party is at the end of the month. I'll tell her I don't fancy it, will stay in with a takeaway and bottle of wine and she can reimburse me for my hardship.

ThejoyofNC · 06/11/2025 18:32

Her reply is unbelievable. I'd have a really hard time not telling her how fucking cheeky she's being.

"You mean the ticket I paid for along with the other two? Why would I give you any money for it?"
