My daughter is 21 and boy is 10 , thinking about not putting up Christmas decorations this year as its only for little kids . And the kids are or bothered. Does anyone still put decorations up with grown up kids xx

Mine went up, even when we had no children. It got us in the festive spirit.

Ihavepaidalotforthisstory · 06/11/2025 07:21

Ahhhh I think that's mean! You have a ten year old!

TidyCyan · 06/11/2025 07:21

I always decorate, children or no children, but my parents stopped bothering with a tree when I moved out. It depends if you get any joy from the lights etc or just find it a massive pain (which it can be, let's face it).

Dzer · 06/11/2025 07:23

I would def do it for a 10y old, even if you are not in the mood. We do it and our kids are at uni. Well my husband does it as I don’t care much about that stuff!

RosesAndHellebores · 06/11/2025 07:25

Yes, of course we do. FFS just buy a pre-lit tree and a bung some baubles on it. And a wreath on the front door. DH (64), DS and DIL 31 and 30 and DD and BF (27 and 29) would be very disapppinted if no effort were made.

DappledThings · 06/11/2025 07:25

Depends on how your son feels. I've never been bothered about decorations and my brother and I were never interested in helping my poor mum who wanted others to be involved. I wouldn't have cared if they never went up. But my DC love it so I totally support it (although delighted that DH does it and I don't have to).

I think at 10 it's still about whether it's important to him or not.

kirinm · 06/11/2025 07:25

of course it would be mean!

DinoLil · 06/11/2025 07:25

My DC are in their 20s. I only put up decorations if they come to visit. I don't bother other years.

RosesAndHellebores · 06/11/2025 07:26

The other alternative is those twiggy trees with lights.

TeenToTwenties · 06/11/2025 07:26

What on earth makes you think that Christmas decorations are only for little kids?

TeenToTwenties · 06/11/2025 07:26

That said, you are at least a month too early in my book (though i know others disagree).

RampantIvy · 06/11/2025 07:27

DD is 25 and loves to do the tree with me. We have mulled wine and Christmas songs while doing it. I admit that I find putting the tree up and taking it down a PITA though.

Oneearringlost · 06/11/2025 07:27

Oh yes, I love my little Christmas displays, alpine scenes, a church and graveyard ( with a little Bluetooth speaker inside, playing traditional Christmas carols). Tree, of course, a Dickensian Christmas scene, candles, proper, church incense...

Purpleturtle45 · 06/11/2025 07:28

I would put up decorations even without kids!

MYOB12 · 06/11/2025 07:32

I’d put all the trimmings up even if just for me! My youngest is 14 (older DC are adults and left home) and he’d be upset if I didn’t decorate.

MyballsareSandy2015 · 06/11/2025 07:36

Mine are 24 and would hate to have an undecorated house! Sounds miserable OP, it’s not just about little kids

aCatCalledFawkes · 06/11/2025 07:43

I love Christmas Decorations. My 18yr old is currently working in a Garden Centre over Christmas and I have put her in charge of organising our Christmas Tree this year which will be from work. She's looking forward to choosing the perfect one for us.

Eenameenadeeka · 06/11/2025 07:43

10 isn't grown up?! But yes I'd still do the decorations!

Ewock · 06/11/2025 07:43

I find it more worrying that you call your son 'the boy'. Shows your feelings about each of your children clearly

AxolotlEars · 06/11/2025 07:45

My adult children would quite possibly call the Christmas police if I didn't!

PinkyFlamingo · 06/11/2025 07:45

Do what you want. But it's a really strange question. Look around nearer Christmas at all the decorated houses and gardens, do you seriously think that's all for little kids?

Winteriscoming80 · 06/11/2025 07:46

My 10 year old still believes in Santa so yes,I got them all out the loft yesterday,dd 25 still loves Christmas.

LilyCanna · 06/11/2025 07:55

You don’t have to go overboard, but I think it would be a bit sad not to do put anything up.
Wait until it’s actually December though or you’ll be sick of them come Christmas. Right now in early November many trees are still green, others in autumn leaf and I got too warm walking down the high street yesterday and had to take my jacket off (ok that’s climate change, but still… definitely not Christmassy in any sense).

DisplayPurposesOnly · 06/11/2025 08:16

Weird post. Christmas decorations aren't just for little kids. And a 10 year old is a little kid.

mumonthehill · 06/11/2025 08:20

You still have a young dc so of course you do!!! Although i have dc 25 and 18 and they would be devastated if there was no tree or decorations. Many of our decorations have lovely memories and really make the house feel festive. I cannot imagine never bringing them out.
