I suspect OP isn't coming back to the thread, but I'm wondering whether she mistyped and her son is actually 19 rather than 10.

Not that it matters, because even if someone's having an adults-only Christmas, that doesn't mean you can't have decorations. Obviously decorating for Christmas isn't a legal requirement, and each to their own. But it's odd to think it's 'only for little kids'. I don't have any kids at all but I've always put something up to make the house look a bit festive at Christmas, I think most people do.

On other threads the OP talks about her 2 year old! So who knows what the heck is going on here?!

I put decs up and I am 46 and DH 51, and his children are a) not with us this year and b) adults. Come on Ebeneezer!! Get those baubles up...

blankcanvas3 · 06/11/2025 12:16

I will put up Christmas decorations even after my children have left home. I’ve never known anybody to stop putting up decorations just because their children are older? Decorations are for everybody, not just for kids! Scrooge

I don't think anyone is suggesting that decorations should be only for children, or even that they generally are but that if someone is not inclined to decorate for their own sake is it reasonable to use the children being grown-up as an excuse not to.

To which of course you don't need an excuse to either decorate or not decorate. I never decorated before now DH moved into my flat. Couldn't be arsed but he took the lead with it.

I don't decorate the house now apart from some real holly and lights.

No gave up decs years ago. Less hassle and cleaner too.

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 06/11/2025 14:00

What??? Put them up. The Christmas lights are gorgeous. Decorate as a family and make it fun. Christmas music blaring and chat about what you all want for Christmas/ the lovely christmases you’ve already had. It’s up to you to make it memorable surely.

BauhausOfEliott · 06/11/2025 14:12

@Kkk17 In your other threads you say you do have 'young kids', including a two-year-old.

intrepidpanda · 06/11/2025 14:18

I always put a tree up. I have no kids and go away for Christmas

MrsSkylerWhite · 06/11/2025 14:20

Don’t be a Scrooge, he’s only 10!

Danioyellow · 06/11/2025 14:20

I have a 10yo, he’s a little boy still in primary school! Are you this miserly towards everything?

jelllyontheplate · 06/11/2025 16:52

What about your 2 year old op?

You’ve solved your issue with working evenings and affording the nursery fees for this 2 year old little girl very quickly then. You only posted about it a week ago.
