‘Just the meat for me please’ Sunday Lunch issue ’

Mondaytuesdayhappydays · 05/11/2025 13:47

SIS and BIL coming for Sunday Lunch, bringing DN and her BF- recently engaged.
Got a little gift for them and card etc, my parents were coming any way so invited Sunday for food as makes sense.

SIS has just WhatsApped to say jokingly that the BF -mega gym bunny - ‘doesn’t do potatoes and trimmings- but don’t worry he’ll just pile his plate high with meat’
Im doing a couple chickens and a gammon between us all so plenty for everyone alongside stuffing, veg, Yorkies , gravey, cauliflower cheese etc but definitely not for a huge piled up plate of just meat!

I replied lightheartedly to SIS to this effect and she’s not a happy camper at all.
Just texted to say wants him to feel welcome so will bring him a couple of raw pork chops or similar to fry - I’ve said bring them cooked and sliced already in a Tupperware as I won’t be frying chops with all the carnage of the roast going on and my parents milling about under my feet ‘helping’

Shes voice noting at the moment can see the symbol
honestly am I just old or a shit hostess or is this how guests who barely know their hosts I might add expect to be catered for ???

I mean veggie/vegan all power to you
but a plate piled up of meat for lunch seems a bit full on to me ??

All sorted with the menu - some extra thighs in the airfryer and jobs a goodun but keep it all on the low down - I think my sister is being a people pleaser and the poor lad could well be mortified !

OP now I want to try making your swede mash with sour cream ! I I feel a Sunday roast coming on in fact ,a rare occasion in our house. ( or can I just come over to yours and eat his vegetables? I’ll even sit under the table ? Not a vegetarian but always like the veggies best .

I quite agree. It wouldn't happen over a woman - unless a serious dietary requirement.

I know the type though; boring, tedious and performative.

Fact he is bringing his own avocado and 🙄'homemade mayo' indicates he is a PITA over his gym diet. Further illustrated by the fact his future MIL is in a tizzy over it.

Look for forward to the update @Mondaytuesdayhappydays , don't let us down. 😄

Promise promise I won’t
Sun evening watch this space !

Because a plate high with meat is very expensive!

Is it though? Waitrose do a whole large chicken (slower readered and higher welfare) for £6.95 and considering that’s all he’ll be having, I don’t think £7 per head is overly expensive when hosting. I’ve certainly spent way more than that catering for vegans which is also a bigger headache in terms of preparation as you have to keep everything separate.

When you factor in alcohol and dessert for everyone else (people cutting don’t usually drink alcohol as the body prioritises metabolising it over fat burning), I don’t think it works out much more expensive to be honest.

BountifulPantry · 05/11/2025 18:28

He’s not being unreasonable to eat what he wants. No one should have to eat something that’s not in their diet.

BUT he should bring his own thing to eat. All it takes is FYI bf is doing this diet that’s really important to him at the moment so he’ll bring his own meal.

Dancingsquirrels · 05/11/2025 18:35

All meat, no veg. Atkins diet fell out of favour years ago !

I was thinking the same! I think we are over thinking about the meat portion, my dh used to train weights, he never ate the whole chicken in one meal.

Iceland do a lot of "myprotein" stuff, the cooked skewers are pretty good as top up, same day/next day delivery too.

Tofufuton · 05/11/2025 18:38

Get some fake meat and go vegan overnight.

PinkPonyClubDancer · 05/11/2025 18:38

If he wants to just eat meat then he should provide his own. It’s rude to expect you to serve him a big plate of the most expensive part of a roast!

Any stock can be frozen and used for risottos. Made some fab risottos with the most bizarre stock choices, including boiled ham water.

Boiled ham water is the best stock of all though!

Zucker · 05/11/2025 18:45

Imagine going to someone elses house and thinking it would be ok to have a whole chicken (provided and cooked by the host) to yourself! The audacity of it.

Please do report back after this meal OP.

AngryBookworm · 05/11/2025 18:46

God, these people are weird. Honestly I'd have just chucked in a tray of chicken thighs and been done with it but that's because I can't handle conflict 😅

I guess it's tough because you don't know if he's the kind of person who'd just eat a normal amount of meat (and maybe seconds) but skip the potatoes/sides, and just have a protein shake later - or the kind of person who expects to be able to eat a whole chicken at a meal because that's what he cooks himself. It also sounds like your sister is going overboard to please him so you don't know what he's actually asked for.

I'd just plate up meat at the counter tbh, giving him a generous but not ludicrous portion, then offer a chance for more meat to anyone. Alternatively (because I like drama more than chicken) just watch and see if he's cheeky enough to take all the leftover meat and leave none for anyone else, and whether anyone else responds to that...

JackJarvisEsq · 05/11/2025 18:49

give him fish and a rice cake

CommonAsMucklowe · 05/11/2025 18:50

He'd get his food plated up like everybody else and he can leave what he doesn't want but he certainly wouldn't be getting anymore meat than anybody else. What an absolute CF. He's a guest and doesn't get to dictate what he wants unless it's a serious dietary requirement and in my opinion being a gym bunny is certainly not that!

kodakpp3 · 05/11/2025 18:53

Hopefully BF will politely, within reason, eat what he’s given.

Not unconnected…. A continual full on meat diet, little veg, little fibre is likely to cause toilet woes and possible health concerns down the line.

Most, proper, gymbunnies would follow a balanced diet.

SatsumaDog · 05/11/2025 18:53

A whole lot of fuss over nothing. He arrives, gets served a reasonable portion of meat (so the same as everyone else) and if he decides not to have any veg then fine. He can eat another meal when he gets home if he’s still hungry. He’s hardly going to expire at the table if he doesn’t hit a particular protein target.

You are being very accommodating op. More so than I would be.

I have a feeling the bf probably did say he’d bring his own food (hence why he’s coming with his own avocado and mayo) but OP’s sister jumped in and told him not to worry about the meat and OP will provide it (in a bid to try and make him feel more welcome) and that’s why she’s in a tizzy now.

Okay, I might have missed it but I have to ask what "on a cut" means. Never heard of it, looked it up and couldn't see an explanation, but people are posting as if everyone would be familiar with it.

boatyardblues · 05/11/2025 18:56

This thread has reminded me of Japanese gay dating show I watched on Netflix last year where the guys all moved into a house share for the duration. One of the guys was an enormous, v muscular Chippendales-type dancer who ate masses of meat. They had a fixed budget for food and everyone else had to go without to sustain his lean protein requirements.

There’s nothing stopping your DN’s bloke bringing extra chicken in a tupperware box and supplementing his dinner. The cost of living is making hosting more challenging. When people make expensive lifestyle choices they can’t expect other people go foot the bill.

It just means being in a calorie deficit to lose body fat. Bodybuilders go through cycles of bulking (eating in a calorie surplus to gain muscle mass) and then cutting to drop body fat to expose the muscle, sometimes in preparation for a show.

Themaghag · 05/11/2025 18:59

YaWeeFurryBastard · 05/11/2025 14:19

I think you win the prize for longest reach of the week

No she doesn't, the BF sounds like a selfish, greedy, self centered pig with an exercise and muscle-building fetish. I certainly wouldn't be pandering to this sort of nonsense and I also wouldn't be allowing him anywhere near my toilet either! He sounds deeply unattractive on every level. And OPs sister is a king sized CF for even suggesting that OP caters to the BF's disgusting dietary demands.

Is bulking and cutting the ultimate way to build muscle?

Is bulking and cutting the ultimate way to build muscle?

It's frequently talked about on social media, but will it lead to long term muscle gain?

Pretty much just means cutting calories, carbs, and fat from your diet to reduce body fat after a bulk (gaining weight - the aim is to build muscle rather than fat which demands an excess of calories, but some fat gain is inevitable, hence the cut after the bulk)

Pork would be a no-no during a cut and limited during a bulk because of the high fat content, so he is not cutting or bulking, and if he is, he is doing it wrong.

Anonymouseposter · 05/11/2025 19:03

Thanks for explaining.

londongirl12 · 05/11/2025 19:03

That’s just rude. You don’t accept lunch at someone’s house and then dictate how much of their food you want to eat. Why should you have to pay extra just because of the way he eats.
