To share tips on how I went from 12 and a half stone - to 7 and a half stone in 9 months?

I’m a female in my 30s.

Thus year I’ve gone down 5 stone from 12.5 stone to 7.5 stone (skinny minny!!)

The way I’ve sing this stick to 1300 calories a day and do one form of exercise a day e.g running for half hour or swimming for half hour or aerobics class.

I’ve also had a crush on a bloke in work and one thing definitely kept me on track with the diet/ exercise plan was saying to myself
“ if I stick to this plan today, I’ll be a bit lighter/fitter when I see John.” / this way of thinking has REALLY helped!! If you haven’t got a ‘John’ as it were, pretend that you do in a figurative sense.

how I stop myself from cheating in the evening is looking at TV programmes I want to watch or magazines/ newspapers I like. And any treats - going to spa at local leisure centre etc - anything that takes my mind away from eating!

Hope this helps at least one person in some way!

I aim for 1200 and occasionally go up to up to 1500 but never over.
I am 5'2 and work out almost every day (weight lifting) and walk my dog a lot-I used to run but she's a bit old now.
And I am still fat.
Well done. I hope John appreciates it!

Napsarelife · 03/11/2025 20:54

Congratulations and well done! It is do able, ive lost 2 stone in 4 months going from 14st 6 to 12st 5. I stick to 1500 cals and started c25k and now run 5k 3 times a week i also do restricted eating or fasting only eating in a 6hr window. It can be hard and boring and feel like its going nowhere but it can be done.

Aintnosunshinenowitsgone · 03/11/2025 20:58

Apparently exercise doesn’t make you lose weight. It helps the mind set, but (my favourite doc CVT says so) research has moved on.

paddyclampster · 03/11/2025 20:59

Surely you don’t call yourself a skinny Minnie in real life? Sounds horrifically smug and ditsie

Dita73 · 03/11/2025 21:00

I lost 9 stone in one year. I just used black coffee, cigarettes and laxatives like a normal person

I bet she's bloody hungry though

Why would someone at a healthy weight be hungry?

Slowdownyouredoingfine · 03/11/2025 21:00

I have been doing 1200 calories a day for weeks now, first stone fell off but I am totally stuck now for some reason. Almost 2 weeks and the scales aren’t budging I feel so pissed off tbh. & yes I am recording everything even milk in coffee etc before someone says it.

lifeonmars100 · 03/11/2025 20:22

I used to go down to 1,200 calories and used to nearly pass out, get obsessed with food, get headaches, feel as if I was floating away I was so hungry. I have done calorie counting, Slimming World twice and My Fitness Pal and every time the weight has gone back on, So my questions are
how do you deal with hunger pangs, because honestly they are the pits and having a glass of water does not sate them

How do you keep the weight off? this is always my undoing

This is why I always think we are programmed to be a particular size.

BringBackCatsEyes · 03/11/2025 21:06

Bless you * you’re 30.
come back after you hit perimenopause and see how “just eating less and moving more” ISNT working at all anymore.*

How patronising. Many women manage to maintain a healthy size/weight during peri and after menopause. You might have to change things as hormones do their thing and fat is deposited in different places and you start to lose muscle tone, but you absolutely can have a good, toned, healthy body in your 50s and on.

I don't know any grown woman with a weight this low. I weighed 7 and a half stone at 14 yrs old and had an eating disorder. Sounds mad to be this weight at 30!

I agree. And as I said, she will put weight back on - for sure - because she has lost it far too quickly. And as pps have said, there's a certain sadness about this, because she has lost all this weight to attract a man. If he does fancy her as a much slimmer woman, (and he didn't fancy her before,) what happens when she regains some of the weight? (Or all of it?!)

.

PaisleyGilmourStreet · 03/11/2025 21:15

You lost me at John (my incredibly boring BIL's name).

Why would someone at a healthy weight be hungry?

Eh? Because she's not eating much.

andthat · 03/11/2025 21:19

SpidersAreShitheads · 03/11/2025 19:51

So pre-packed sandwiches for breakfast and lunch, “very little” in the evening, and loads of Diet Coke.

Yikes OP.

I’m glad you’re happy with your weight now but I’d implore you to think about a more balanced diet. Being healthy isn’t just about being slim.

This.

Your diet sounds absolutely awful. You are choosing ‘thin’ over health. It’s not good long term @NadineQueue

slightlyoverbaked · 03/11/2025 21:25

Skinny Minnie?
Stick like?
Lots of UPFs?

no thanks.

DidIForgetPEAgain · 03/11/2025 21:26

nomas · 03/11/2025 16:56

Nowt wrong with Inspo John.

lol 😂

BringBackCatsEyes · 03/11/2025 21:00

Why would someone at a healthy weight be hungry?

Possibly within ‘healthy’ weight, but definitely not healthy.

OP won’t - can’t - be getting the necessary macros to ensure good nutrition. Definitely can’t be getting enough fresh fruit and veg. Empty calories for the sake of easy measurement.

If’s VERY unlikely the OP will be sufficiently fuelled and satiated. Hence the Diet Coke to fill her up.

Whatswrongherethen · 03/11/2025 21:31

OP I m delighted for you... But it sounds like you might have a very nutrient poor diet. I wonder if it's healthier to be overweight or underweight and eating very poorly. I know one woman who was very slim all her life. Her diet was shocking. One frozen pizza a day and a bag of crisps. Every day.

She was riddled with osteoporosis by 50. Constantly breaking bones. She's 55 now and it doesn't look like a great life I ll be honest.

Please make sure you're feeding your body appropriately. A slim body for John really isn't the bee all and end all.

Showerflowers · 03/11/2025 21:33

Well done op. I’ve lost 3 stone since may doing the same. 1300 cals a day. I’m also firmly in menopause (in my late 50’s) and physically disabled so I’ve not been able to do much in the way of exercise, 3000 steps if I’m having a very good day.

I didn’t have a “John” my motivation is spinal surgery next year. I need to be lighter to recover better. I’ve one more stone to go x

GaIadrieI · 03/11/2025 21:34

I'm more of the 'lift heavy stuff and eat 2000+ calories a day' mindset. 😂

GaIadrieI · 03/11/2025 21:36

But that is a respectable weight loss and still within the ranges of what would be considered healthy. Must have been about a couple of lbs a week consistently I'm guessing?

WindyAnna · 03/11/2025 22:12

Ha! I'm 12 stone and 1300 calories a day is over eating for me. Years of starving myself had totally f**ked my metabolism. Lived on less than 800 cals through my teens and twenties to keep weight off. Gradually came back on as I've returned to normal (1200 cals) eating. But I'm post menopausal now so no need to motivate myself with a John shag.

Good for you though, not after p*ssing on your (low calorie) chips but massive over simplification to suggest this is a universal answer to achieving and sustaining weightloss.

HorrorFan81 · 03/11/2025 22:18

I'm glad you're happy OP but honestly this sounds really unhealthy. Basically starving yourself to be as skinny as possible, eating nutrient poor food. You will have lost muscle and bone density and should start thinking about building up both with resistance training and eating whole foods, prioritising protein.

Terrytheweasel · 03/11/2025 22:25

MoonBugs · 03/11/2025 17:11

Are you aware how unlikeable you come across? Genuinely wondering…
(not jealous as I’m also a ‘slim pretty girl’ but just wonder if you have any self-awareness?)

Your comment makes you sound much more unlikeable. She’s happy and proud of her results. It sounds to me like she was bordering on obese before at 13.5 stone and 5ft 1 so she’s done herself a massive favour.

Mummabear04 · 03/11/2025 22:26

@NadineQueue can you share what you eat in a day of 1300 cal? Ideally what a few days look like, thanks. Good luck with John!

Chattycatt · 03/11/2025 22:47

Don’t you ever just want to demolish a packet of biscuits with a hot cup of tea?
