This page I follow, she said she always changes her bedding on the last day of the month and reminded her followers to do the same....
I commented does she only change them once a month and she said yes unless they need before that.

I thought this was completely gross!!! I change mine once a week. Absolute max maybe 9 days if particularly busy etc

YABU- once a month is fine
YANBU - thats gross

I get up at 2am to change mine. Anything more than 3-4 hours without changing it is disgusting.

That’s disgusting. I’ve alarms set for every 2 hours throughout the night to change mine.

CatHairEveryWhereNow · 02/11/2025 14:07

We do it more often - once a week in spring summer when we can line dry - but I'm in one of the wettest parts of the UK with limited drying facilties and 4 lots of bedding and other washing - getting things dry can be a nightmare so it gets longer in winter.

We aware pg and shower/wash frequently - so really not sure it's the massive issue some seem to feel it is.

I remember when nylon sheets came out. My Mam loved those😂 I had some natty dark purple and lilac striped ones.

OMG I remember them 😱My maternal grandmother had them. Horrible scratchy, sweaty things. As you say they came in purple, loud flowers & stripes or yellows & pinks that I swear glowed in the dark. When you got into them in your poly-cotton nightie sparks would fly.😂

Oh you must be like the Princess and the Pea😂 I can’t remember being at all bothered by nylon sheets as a child. In fact they were quite toasty in our freezing cold house. I am sure they were very labour saving in those days. They washed and dried very quickly and didn’t need ironing. I am sure though nylon sheets wouldn’t suit modern sensibilities and probably no longer exist.

I’m not sure what the sarcastic replies are for, once a month to simply wash your bedding is too long and gross. I wash mine once a week, sometimes twice a week in the summer. I couldn’t go more than that! After working with the public tho, there’s a lot of dirty people out there and it doesn’t surprise me 🤣

TheOpalReader · 02/11/2025 14:11

Once a week for me, bedding and towels on a hot wash on a Sunday. I do have extra pillowcases to change during the summer.

WalkDontWalk · 02/11/2025 12:48

Every Ash Wednesday, without fail.

Edited

Same. Whether or not it needs washing

RosenWilloughby · 02/11/2025 14:16

I change once a week on a Monday morning - without fail unless ill. We bathe twice daily and always enter the bed with a clean body and fresh nightwear. Cleanliness feels calmer and is of course hygienic.

ShineBlueSky · 02/11/2025 14:17

Your sheets absorb body oils, which if left long enough, will permeate your mattress. There is no coming back from mattress funk, which it turn gives your bedroom an odor.

YANBU, OP. If you're too busy for basic hygiene, reevaluate your priorities.

You are aware we’re all different right?
Dh & I both shower before bed and are very non sweaty/clean people.
We definitely don’t change the bed weekly, we’d rather not waste our time and it’s not great environmentally.

ChestnutGrove · 02/11/2025 14:18

I sleep on straw in a manger so just replace with fresh straw every so often

Jollyhockeystickss · 02/11/2025 14:22

But do you wash your pillows!!!

Yes.

Dollymylove · 02/11/2025 14:27

Once every Preston Guild whether they need it or not 🤣🤣

Thedogscollar · 02/11/2025 14:28

YABU by being upset, influenced or grossed out by a stranger, on the Internet, that you do not know.
Stop watching and being influenced by utter tripe on the Internet. Do something useful. Change your bedding.

Moglet4 · 02/11/2025 14:28

Yes I personally find it gross to go longer than a week but as I’m not sleeping in other people’s beds I couldn’t really care less!

Mattress protector and pillow protectors here
I do weekly though anyway

SandStormNorm · 02/11/2025 14:31

I change ours when they are stiff with coffee stains or other 'help me' signals of distress from bedding, and ready to waddle themselves to the laundry room ponging as they go. I do, of course, spend hours neatly ironing the fresh sheets and pillow cases anointed with fabric freshener wafting lavender fields as I do my best Princess and the pea impression. Ok not really, it is way, way down the list of things I have to do, and want to do in the day and if that makes me a slob, I will buy the t-shirt. I take solace from the fact it is only stained with my slops of coffee and such like, unlike some hotels that don't even change the sheets between guests and sponge off obvious stains.

Ponoka7 · 02/11/2025 14:32

I miss laundrettes on every corner, although most of MN would probably be horrified by them. I change mine around every 10 days. I use mattress and pillow covers and it all gets changed. I've got a mix of a tumble dryer and dri buddy. We have seperate towels and wash them weekly.

Sharptonguedwoman · 02/11/2025 14:33

JudgeBread · 02/11/2025 12:54

I mean duh, I'm a Mumsnetter, obviously I change my sheets every day and wash them at 100°

Even though I sweat L'Air du Temps and my farts smell like petunias it would be completely grim to not change them that often, alongside scrubbing my husband with brillo to ensure he's clean enough to be allowed in the bed.

😂😂😂

rainingsnoring · 02/11/2025 14:34

Why are some people on MN obsessed with how often other, completely unrelated people change their bedding?! Such a strange to be concerned about.

FreeTheOakTree · 02/11/2025 14:35

Lolz at the comments!!

I am a solo sleeper and a weekly changer.

But only because I love the freshly laundered smell and feeling of a newly made bed.

To offset though, i'll often microwave a gone-cold cup of tea.

Electricity - both in terms of saving money and saving the planet.

Leaving your bedsheets a month won’t save the planet.

here I was thinking I was minging going ten days this week! This is why I shower and change as soon as I get in and refuse to wear clothes I’ve worn on public transport around the house.

I throw it all away along with the duvet when the clocks change.
