to wonder why people spend so long titting about with flowers and ribbons when they are making a lifetime commitment to another human being?

I probably am, but I am sick to the back teeth of listening to all the blather in my office about canapes and favours and almonds and chair back floral arrangements and ribbons and lighting and nothing about the woman in questions' husband to be. Is it really mainly about the shopping?

Ok, ebony and ivory. He's not black by any chance, is he?

Mercy · 06/06/2008 19:23

lOL!

I am married but we did it abroad with mimimum fuss - def no flowers or ribbons or white meringue dress etc.

MIL was most disappointed as she was looking forward to the two of us decorating the church with flowers. Guess which one of us was brought up with a religious background

differentID · 06/06/2008 19:27

No, he's as white as unfired poocelain

differentID · 06/06/2008 19:27

oops porcelain, and i meant unpainted.

differentID · 06/06/2008 19:28

i've been spending lots of time on you tube whilst on mumsnet at the same time.

bergentulip · 06/06/2008 19:32

All this nonsense is exactly why hubbie and I ran away from it all and had a small do with 15family and our two best friends as witnesses.

Favours? Flowers matching napkins? Bridesmaids? What the??? Life's too bloody short!

differentID · 06/06/2008 19:34

Trust me- if both sets of parents had their ways there would be closer to 200 rather than 50. Our foot was put down very early on

hullygully · 06/06/2008 19:51

Ok, last song suggestion because frankly I think you're being very picky and ungrateful: a whiter shade of pale.

WideWebWitch · 06/06/2008 20:01

lol at this thread especially Puritancomputing and wanting to shoot princess bridezillas, ha ha ha

differentID · 06/06/2008 20:01

lol. suggestions are very much appreciated hully. It's a beautiful song, makes me cry every time i hear it.
I quite like three times a lady, what do you think? Too cheesy?

hullygully · 06/06/2008 20:05

Three times a lady what? Is a bit corny. Will rack limited musical brain further.

differentID · 06/06/2008 20:07

Also like Hello

hullygully · 06/06/2008 20:10

They're al a bit dreary. What about Motorbikin'?

Thomcat · 06/06/2008 20:16

Couldn't agree more. All that money, imo wasted on flowers, what do they call those things... favours (!!!), fancy invites, gifts fro bridesmaids, food, dresses, etc etc.

Is it a wedding, or is it a marriage these bridzillas want?

My DP showed me pics of a wedding his friend had taken. They had a falconry display, people dressed in oversized costumes walkign round for apparently no reson, juts loads of mad obscure things. Was that her dream weddign or a way of showing off how much money they had to everyone.

hullygully · 06/06/2008 20:18

For my wedding we had an ancient mariner theme with giant albatrosses flying around and old men screeching in boats. It got a bit wearing and then one on the albatrosses shat on the boat shaped cake.

PeachyWontLieToYou · 06/06/2008 20:22

I enjoyed planning my wedding a lot. I also happen to adore my Dh, as many on MN will know as I regularly blabber on about him after years!. I was excited that I was amrrying the man I loved so much. And hallelujah to that!

Each to their own.

YABU

PeachyWontLieToYou · 06/06/2008 20:29

but then again i did have a friend who bought thecdress years before meeting her now-dh..... and booked her wedding 3 weeks before my long booked one with the same menu

I am deeply evil for pmsl when it was a crap meal and a horrid dress with leg o mutton sleeves

so there are bridezillas yes

but not all excited planner types are bridezillas

hullygully · 06/06/2008 20:32

My friend has already sent out "keep the date free" cards for her wedding two years in advance. She is having three marquees for food, relaxing and bands and plans three changes of outfits. But she is very cool and it will be fab.

Minum · 06/06/2008 20:36

I had the flowers left over from a funeral as I only went to the florists a day before the wedding

Can't stand the whole wedding thing. We're happy and vert together 15 years on, but I'm still a bit that I got married at all.

differentID · 06/06/2008 20:37

Good grief, i'm dreading the one dress- I don't do dresses of any sort normally and I went and chose one that had a train. Silly cow that I am. But three changes? DOes she have a wardrobe team or something?

hullygully · 06/06/2008 20:39

She LOVES clothes. She will enjoy the whole thing...weird.

MicrowaveOnly · 06/06/2008 20:41

YABU its a great excuse for a party..with all the trimmings. Its FUN!

differentID · 06/06/2008 20:44

I suppose if she likes clothes, then it sounds like she'll have a blast, but for me clothing is only a way to stop the general public from seeing my acres of naked hairy flesh!

differentID · 06/06/2008 20:45

I am looking forward to the party afterewards though!

Swedes · 06/06/2008 20:46

YANBU
Someone I know (and don't like) is so shallow and cynical about her forthcoming nuptials that I have already decided it's impossible for me to attend.
The latest:
Her: 'I'd like him to have his teeth at least whitened, if not a complete set of new veneers, so he looks good in the photos.'
